Suspension buzz when compressed

Hi all, my car has been making this noise from the rear whenever going over a bump, since two months ago. I can easily recreate it if I push the car down too. It also does this when I try to lift up the car by hand a little from the rear(weird!)

My fronts never does it. Some days It's completely quiet and is smooth as butter, some days its annoyingly loud like in the video.

Is this a shock related problem? For reference, this comes from both sides, and I do have koni strts installed. (they are buzzing since day 1.) I also have 24mm solid rear sway bar and a eibach pro kit lowering springs (that lowers about 1.2 inch).

Hot spot on driver side of center console

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some guidance in diagnosing a new issue I found yesterday in my Mk6.

It was about 25-30 deg Celsius (77-86 F) yesterday, and started down-pouring rain. I had my air set to cool (18 deg C) with AC off but I still found the car to be really hot. I picked up a passenger and it seemed to be just me experiencing this, almost as if my floor vents were blowing hot, even though my vents were set to front/windshield.

I then realized the plastic (highlighted in the picture) on my side of the center console was really hot, almost to the point where it hurt to touch.

I know the heater core is right here, I just had it replaced in January. The plastic was getting so hot it started feeling tacky.

It only recently has become hot here again (Canada) so I’m not sure if this is a brand new issue or if I’m just discovering it.

Side note in case it relates - I have an AC refrigerant leak that I haven’t yet fixed, so my cool air currently is just cool air, not AC cold. This is initially why I thought I was still warm, since I have no AC haha. The air from the vents was blowing cool. No issues with air flow!

If anyone has any thoughts please let me know!

Wheels…

I ordered black 5 star 17” wheels a month ago and they still haven’t arrived. I called my local shop that’s been helping me build my motor and he called them to see what’s going on and they never told me they’re on back order and they won’t be in until mid July! Wtffff. And yes… I ordered 17s on purpose because I need a smaller wheel and more tire because I road trip every month and the roads around America are all under construction and dog shit and I’m tired of slamming the shit out of my wheels. 🤬😡

Did I Replace My Clutch To Early?

Obviously kidding, I genuinely don’t know how it didn’t fail completely, along with my dying slave. Spent all night putting my new DKM stage 2 clutch in, the Golf R transmissions are not for the weak. But we will see how she holds up. So far buttery smooth, enjoying the slightly heavier smf.

Rear badge placement ?!

My Mk6 GTI, didn't come with the back gti badge from factory, but I decided to put an original oem badge on. The tech at the VW dealer had no original stencil or anything like that, you can see (2nd photo), but I thought it looked off and I decided to adjust it a little bit manually (3rd photo).

I couldn't find anywhere online the original placement for the badge.

Can any of you leave a picture in the comments with the original measurements on the back badge ?

Thank you everyone, I appreciate it. ❤️

MK6 GTI Cold Starts Rattle | Streamable

Hi all!

As of late I have been experiencing this sound when doing a cold start. It sounds like something is rattling. Chain stretch reads at -3.15. The car has the new style tensioner. Currently sits at 87k.

Everything I've read, for similar posts, its mixed, from it's "normal", to "it's gonna blow up". And given the history of these engines, seems like the latter may be more the case.

Anywho, how does your cold start sound like? Anyone with a similar sound?

P2015 Intake Manifold Replacement / Fuel Rail

Hi folks, I have the P2015 code and already tried the ECS dongle, code came back so looks like I’ve got to do the proper fix 😂

When looking at FCP Euro and other places for parts, I’ve noticed the disclaimer that you will need a new fuel rail to fit the new manifold if you don’t have the latest rail revision (believe PN ends in AB?).

I’m guessing that fuel rail I have is not the latest revision, and won’t be compatible. I’ve tried to take a pic of the PN, but since the rail appears to be almost as expensive as the Intake Manifold I want to be sure I need it… but we all know the worst thing is getting something torn down, only to realize you don’t have a part you need and then pay to expedite shipping and wait…

Any advice on parts / kits to do this job? I’ve scoured the interwebs and am very confident in my ability to do it, I just don’t want to over spend on parts I don’t need, or get deadlined for a few days if I don’t have everything I need when I start.

I’ve already replaced spark plugs and ignition coils, and will do the carbon scraping when I’m in there for Intake Manifold. Car is at 126k miles, anything else I should do?

Thank you!

Golf R style bumper?

Does anyone know where I can source a golf R style front bumper. This one is great and all, but I love the R style and mine has a bunch of holes from the previously mounted front plate.

My experience with ECS EP24 pads

Photos are after only 5,000 miles, all street, no track.

I've been a Stoptech user for years. Now that Centric is going out of business I decided to try the ECS EP24 "Enthusiast" pads. Followed the same bed in procedure I always have - repeated hard stops from 60 to 10, cool brakes, repeat.

These cannot handle significant heat. The front pads basically disintegrated and wore out extremely quickly. The rear pads stayed together but wore heavily too. I am not impressed for something that is marketed as a spirited street and occasional track pad.

I will not be buying these again. The Powerstop Z23 hybrid ceramic pads I put on my wife's minivan can handle more heat than these.

Saturday Drive

Recently moved to Kansas City and found some surprisingly nice roads to drive in eastern Kansas.

Figured I’d take a video for the mems and share it here!

Also may be informative for those looking to introduce some basic mods. I have a rear muffler delete from ECS, open air intake from IE, and diverter valve from ECS. The subframe chasis brace made it great to drive, too. It looks like headliner should be worked on next😬

Have a great weekend everyone 🤟🏼

Skating on thin ice

Big sigh of relief after getting my much dreaded timing chain done. CCZB on 91k Miles. Opened the lower timing chain cover and then cringed on the sight of the tensioner holding on by a thread.

New parts:

  • FEBI BILSTEIN 106513 Timing chain kit
  • Upper timing cover gasket
  • Lower timing cover
  • Crankshaft Damper Bolt With Seal - WHT009475

Camshaft position now on -0.44.
