Lucky Day! Anyone know of an artist named Pat Schnabel?

Holy smokes - found this at my local Goodwill. Grabbed it from the bin before it went to the art area. My lucky day, was there at the right time. I've looked up the artist but cannot find anything. I already hung it on our wall! It's original oil on canvas with the artist applying some thick impasto to highlight the waves and sunlight. Happy Day!

1938 Fireplace Hearth Material

Finally tackled this fireplace demo (pic 1 & 2), it is non-working. I already like it better! We felt the scale was off and did not like the painted gray stone work and upraised hearth. Under the gray stonework we found white fire brick and larger sized fire bricks inside. We will clean off the grout/glue remnants that held the stonework, re-paint the brick white, build a simple wood mantle, and then find the right tile for the hearth. Any suggestions for hearth materials that would be best for a 1938 home in San Diego (see last photo of exterior)? We read that honed limestone, bricks, colored or mottled tiles were used in the late 30's and would like to keep new design traditional to the age of our home.
