I (18F) am a senior in high school and this year our school hired a new principal and vice principal. At the beginning of the school year, I noticed that my vice principal was acting really weird towards a lot of the students. It didn’t matter whether they were a guy or girl, he was weird towards everybody.

(I’m gonna give you guys a little background first)

So this year, my depression has been worse than ever so obviously I don’t really have the motivation to get up on time and make it to school. I’ve been trying my hardest to put forth my best effort but it’s been really difficult for me. I have a 16 year old sister who I have to drive to school every day (she doesn’t have her license yet) and I usually make her late as well since my parents can’t take her to school. My vice principal would constantly track us down in order to yell at us for not being to school on time or missing a class. It wouldn’t matter if I was in class and the teacher was in the middle of a lesson. He would walk into the classroom, call out the student in front of everyone, tell them what their punishment would be, then leave. The amount of times he has interrupted class to do this exact thing is actually insane. It’s honestly so humiliating to have the entire class silently turn and look at you while your vice principal ridicules you in front of everyone.

He also put me in academic study hall this semester when I finally have open campus. (I do already have one open campus period but that’s irrelevant lol) Typically, seniors are allowed to leave the building during study halls with the exception of academic study hall. Students are usually put in that class if their grades aren’t great, they have a lot of missing work, or they need extra help with a certain class. Despite me often being late and sometimes missing classes, I’m usually pretty good with getting my work done on time. Also I get really good grades and I even received an academic achievement award from my school 2 years in a row. The only subject I really struggle in is math. I took a 1 semester statistics class at the beginning of the year and I really struggled to keep my grade above a D in that class. Because I needed extra help in stats, the counselor put me in academic study hall. I was fine having academic study hall in my schedule first semester because I needed it. I’m not taking a math class this semester but they still put me in academic study hall. I have no missing work and I have all A’s so I went and talked to the school counselor about getting that changed. She said that my grades looked great and she had no problem getting me out of that class. However, apparently if I want to change my schedule, I need either the principal or vice principal’s signature. I went to the office and asked if the principal was around and the secretary told me that he was in a meeting but my vice principal was available. I didn’t want to wait for my principal to get done with his meeting so I decided to talk to my vice principal instead. Big mistake. My vice principal told me that he wants to check in with my parents before changing it. I asked him if that was required and he said no, that’s just something he likes to do. My parents are hella controlling so of course they said “no we want her to stay in school.” That’s that I guess. He told me that my parents said no and so he couldn’t take it off my schedule. I talked to my parents about it and told them that I hated just sitting on my phone for 2 hours straight because I had nothing else to do. Of course they didn’t care and just told me that “there’s always something to work on.” But there wasn’t. I rarely ever have any missing assignments. Because my parents refused to give my vice principal permission to get me out of that class, I just started skipping.

So my academic study hall starts at 11:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM. I have a job on top of school and other extracurricular activities and I usually work from 2-7 because of my open campus letting me out of school at 1. I don’t eat school lunch (because it’s nasty) and I usually just eat when I get home. On the days where I work, I usually only have time to get ready, grab a quick snack and then leave. (If I left the building at 1). I figured that I would have more time to relax before work if I came home at 11 instead of 1 so I just started doing that instead. I didn’t think it was a huge deal since I have no missing work and I wouldn’t be doing anything in academic study hall in the first place.

For the first 3 times I skipped, nothing happened. Then about 2 weeks ago, I was about to take a nap before work when I got a call from an unknown number. I don’t answer unknown callers so I just declined the call. Moments after I declined, the same number tried calling me again. I found it very weird and just declined again. Then the number called a THIRD time and I was getting concerned. Why was this unknown number calling me multiple times?? I declined once more and this time, the caller left a voicemail. It was my vice principal. He somehow found my personal phone number and called me to ask me why I wasn’t in academic study hall. He used language like “dear” and “honey” in the voicemail which really weirded me out.

Days later, I was hanging out with some friends and I told them what happened and BOTH of them said that they had been called at least once by the vice principal on their personal phone numbers too. I also talked to my co workers about it when I worked and they told me that no faculty member should be reaching out to students on their personal devices, no matter what. They suggested that I report him to someone but I don’t know how or where to even start. Do I report him or just let him get away with calling students on their personal phones? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏
