Typical Family Med visit as a M3
Starting FM soon and just wondering what a typical visit looks like from our perspective. Obviously history, but what components of the physical exam do typical visits necessitate? Thanks!

I unfortunately recently lost my job as a Program Coordinator for an academic program due to loss of external funding. A little bit about my career, I did a PhD in pathology and worked in cancer research for a couple decades before shifting to admin style work. Bascially helped run research programs and projects for grad students and coordinating events/symposiums and grant applications and whatnot. I understand the job market isn't the best, honestly just looking for anything that could be remotely a fit with a half decent salary. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello all. I unfortunately recently lost my job as a Program Coordinator for an academic program due to loss of external funding. A little bit about my career, I did a PhD in pathology and worked in cancer research for a couple decades before shifting to admin. I recently began M3 like two weeks ago and started with Psych which is one of the chiller rotations at my school. For the most part so far it's been shadowing followed by talking about cases with the attending/resident (psych residents are straight chillers) and going in and taking histories if it's slower and the docs aren't in a huge rush. Feel like it's been going pretty good so far.
I was pretty much alone in the rotation until the other day when another person from my class was at the same clinic as me. It was one of the those clinics where the MAs do the vitals and then the doctors go in and see the patient/do their notes with the dictaphones etc., so I kind of got the vibe that it would be more like shadowing which was going well for the first few hours. But then I look over to my classmate and he's like the embodiment of Mr. Tryhard over there: asking for the patient lists from the front desk, taking notes on his little notepad (which he'll probably never look at again), asking to go in to the see the patient before the doctor. It seemed like the doctor he was with was a little thrown off schedule since that's not really how the office functioned.
And so obviously I'm like "shit should I be doing all that too"? Now I'm pretty Type B and introverted so I'm not one to go out of my way to do things, which I know I probably should be better at taking initiative especially during rotations. But I feel like the other extreme is probably just as bad if not worse especially if it's getting in the way of doctors doing what they need to do. Is it just going based off vibes bascially? Thanks for any tips!
With recent SB champs such as the Eagles and Seahawks having strong units on that side of the ball, it's no secret that defense wins championships, and admittedly ours hasn't been the best the past couple years.
I think part of that is scheme (in addition to health obviously). But 1v1, the QB and WR will always have the advantage over the CB.
Even with Carlton Davis, Amik Robertson, and TA (yes I know he wasn't the best), that scheme was heavily exposed. Now with those guys gone, it looks like Thomas Harper, Rakestraw, Christian Izien, and McCreary will play a heavy roll, the only (somewhat) bright spot with experience is DJ Reed.
On top of all that, our two star safeties aren't at full health and had pretty serious injuries. Idk, just don't see this being a good year for the secondary.
Just started M3 a couple weeks ago so trying to figure out ways to study for shelves and Step 2. I hear that Uworld is more of a learning tool, so how are people hitting like 78% just like that. That implies that you know like 80% of the material without any content review/studying which is kinda hard to believe. I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Recently took my first shelf and wasn't the score I was hoping for. I felt like I went through every treatment algorithm and diagnosis like 10 times and got them down pretty well. Did all the UWorld questions and CMS forms. And I did all that only to get questions about "ulnar nerve transposition" and lacosamide (whatever that is) along with other stuff that amounted to maybe 10-15 questions that weren't in a single anki deck or UWorld/Amboss question. I honestly feel kinda deflated and don't really know where to go from here.
Downvote all you want but:
TA - off the team
Rakestraw - hasn't played a snap
Vaki - forget he's on the team sometimes
Wingo - maybe the jury's still out on him but hasn't shown much yet
Mahogany - the only (somewhat) bright spot but even then has a ways to go
Anyone have a good way to get these down? Realized they're quick free points if I can get them right lol. Thanks!
I just started M3 about a week ago unfortunately recently got the news that my dad lost his job (yet another consequence of this current administration) due to loss of NIH funding. He's loved doing research his whole career and it just fucking sucks. I also signed a lease with my roommate and wouldn't have if I had known this was going to happen. This along with school honestly hasn't been the easiest week or two. Wondering if anyone has been through something similar.
I started M3 just about a week or two ago and have a Uworld/Amboss questions schedule going but my percentages are really low. I see for Shelves/Step 2 alot of the questions deal with best next step, but what resources should I use to learn the alogorithms? I'm using anki currently but for some reason I have a hard time connecting the card to the question even though I've seen the question-associated card multiple times.
Tl;dr: How best to learn treatment algorithms tested for Step 2. Using Anki but for some reason I have a hard time connecting the card to the associated question.
I'm starting M3 first and I really want to get good at presenting a patient and writing a good patient note. If anyone has a good template or resources on how to do so, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
I recently got banned lol wondering if I can create a new account from my iPad with a different AppleID?
I recently took the generalist test and when I open DA I'm only seeing a "Thanks for completing the assessment!" message. I also have an extensive medical background but I can't seem to be able take any other starter exams anymore.
We start our rotations in a couple weeks and I'm just a bit nervous as I'm on the more shy side. Honestly I get along pretty well with people, just find it hard to keep a conversation going and engage in small talk. Maybe I'm overthinking it but would love any advice. Thanks!
Anyone know of any good apartments near the hospital? Looking to stay within the 1600-1800 range if possible. Thanks!
Sorry i'm not usually this neurotic but I genuinely felt like I failed and just want to get the results over with so is there any chance May 16th results come out tomorrow?
I'm 20 years old and lean Republican mostly due to wanting strong borders and prioritizing national security. However, none of the financial moves the president has made so far in his second term have made sense to me. The tariffs seemed to injure domestic industry by raising the cost of foreign materials used in production while retaliation from other countries screwed our farmers over. The Big Beautiful Bill cut into Medicaid and Food Assistance too deeply while cutting taxes for the rich. And then this stupid fund literally just makes no sense to me, especially bringing it up while prices are this high.
Gas prices and general high living costs seem to have alot of people fed up and will definitely influence how me and much of the country will vote in November and 2028.
I'm only 21 and am more moderate but in general I feel like one problem is that the Democrats haven't been able to find a solid candidate to unify behind like the Republicans have. No matter how bad Trump is most everyone on the right is united behind him whether they like him or not. People like AOC and Newsom seem to be too far left. I feel like people are tired of Kamala and if she's the 2028 candidate might as well hand it to the Republicans. Love Buttigieg but doubt the people will vote for a gay guy. Just wondering who else is out there.
I feel like everytime I come in we chat for a few seconds/catch up and then the convo just dies. Might be kind of a niche issue but wondering what I can do about it lol.
