Is the Chicago/Main area actually dangerous?

My family is moving to the area (just bought a place on Chicago near Main) and I've been getting a littler nervous about some of the posts I've seen about living in the area. Between the shooting down at the Howard red line station and the post about "aggressive men" on Main St today, I'm not really sure what to make of it all. We haven't moved in yet and I want to be excited about our new neighborhood but the way people on here are talking about it freaks me out.

I've lived in cities my whole life so seeing an occasional homeless person isn't really a concern for me, my main worry is if the area is meaningfully dangerous for a couple and their young child. I don't know if it's just adjusting to the different way online communities act in different areas or what but I feel like there's been a lot of sensationalized posts about the south side of Evanston and I'm just wondering if anyone who actually lives in the area can enlighten me on whether or not crime is an actual problem there.

So I have a powered vintage cube that tries to split the difference between old school fun and cool new cards (omitting UB) and I've been trying to make sure that Dark Depths remains viable. I find that I almost never see it anymore in vintage cube games and I want to try and give it everything I can to succeed. Any advice?

Every photo from 3 different rolls of film across two cameras looks like this. It feels like these were scanned out of focus somehow (why they still sent them to me is beyond me) but I've been nervous that they developed them wrong and that all the photos are lost. I won't be able to see the negatives until later this week when I go over there but do we think these are salvageable with a rescan?

To be clear, I'm a competent enough photographer who as recent as two weeks ago developed several rolls of film from these same cameras that were all in focus. What I'm asking is mainly if the scan could be to blame (fixable with a rescan) or if they botched something in development (obviously pretty heartbreaking)

EDIT: At this point this has enough interest where I'll have to follow up once I see my negatives tomorrow.

UPDATE: The Noritsu was improperly calibrated! Getting rescans now

We have a young daughter who won't be in school for another four or five years, how concerned should we be that her elementary school years will be effected? She'd be going to Lincoln. How can we help fix the problem?

I was playing with my ten month old and she kept putting her teethers up to my face and giggling like crazy as I did these big exaggerated bites, the type where you audibly click down with your teeth. It was stupid, I should never had been doing it when she could reach my mouth because suddenly, she just put her little hand out one of her fingers got nipped. She burst into tears and I've felt terrible.

I'm not sure how hard I got her but it must not have done much damage because I couldn't tell which finger was the one that got bit afterwards but her cries really stuck with me. It made me feel so so awful. Should I be more concerned about the bite? Is she going to stop feeling safe with me?
