Why do orc dogs still attack if you have the ulu-mulu?
I understand that they are animals that aren't going to respect orc traditions, but it's so stupid that the orcs end up fighting you despite carrying the ulu-mulu simply because they can't rein in their dogs... Once an orc dog aggroes the orcs do too, especially if you try to fight back. No way this was intended.
Loving the remake (story)
Big fan of PB games. Played all of them at least once, and the Gothic trilogy and Risen all about 2-3 times. This remake has been a lot of fun so far and has been full of typical Gothic moments. As an example, let me share how today played out.
I tend to do a pure mage challenge in these games, where I don't spend any LP on combat stats (str, dex, weapons), only on utility and eventually magic. I'm playing on hard mode and the only way to get stronger in the early chapters is to find potions, amulets, rings, free bonuses etc. So even though I am especially weak, I must explore dangerous areas to get stronger.
I had just entered chapter 2 by joining the old camp. Got the shadow armour and used my hard earned nuggets on upgrading it all the way. I had already found a +15 def ring and amulet, so defence was pretty high. Started clearing the map of lower level enemies and found that when even fighting 4 adult scavengers at once (on hard mode) I was taking very little damage. Thought I might have become OP early until I ran into two lurkers. They didn't do excessive damage but they still wrecked me. My damage output was just too low. I had 22 strength and a +7 strength ring at this point and I had a nice sword that required 30 strength, so I figured my best course of action was to find another strength potion.
While exploring the surroundings I found a cave filled with snappers, which were much tougher than lurkers and which even 1 on 1 I had no chance against. I barely survived running past them into a room that had a chest with a "Monastery key". Figured it was for the large building above the cave so I decided I'd go try my luck there.
So so many snappers in front of that place. Finally made it in when I changed tactics and jumped on a wall to the left with only 1 patrolling snapper that I could sneak by. There was a meatbug hole next to the gate and I luckily had a few scrolls, so I transformed and went in.
This part was intense. The camera as a meatbug changes perspective, and the snappers that greet you inside look HUGE. Appropriately terrifying for how dangerous they are to me at this point. Fortunately they did not care about a lowly meatbug and they let me pass.
I changed back to human form in a promising looking room that unfortunately turned out to not contain much of worth The only exit was to the courtyard full of snappers I had just gone through. The closest doorway had 2 patrolling snappers near it, so I waited until they both cleared off and snuck in. From here I could get to the upper floor of the structure which fortunately had no snappers at all. I still hadn't found what the key was for. If I had gone to the right here, I would have found it and finished this adventure a lot sooner. I went left.
I immediately saw a cave and of course I went in. After a while a snapper came from the side, blocking my exit, so I started running further in. More and more joined and I knew there was no way I was going to get back out. I kept running deeper inside and almost died several times, but by some miracle I managed to find temporary safety by dropping down a hole. Here I found sticking out of the ground a cool looking "Sword of Death" which to my disappointment needed 38 strength. That's when I heard the noises and saw a SHADOWBEAST several meters away. I knew of these and knew it would kill me in 1 hit, so I booked it and finally made it back outside.
The sole snapper here was easily escaped by jumping up a ledge, but he did get one sneaky hit in that took most of my health. After that there there were no enemies for a while. I found a bunch of generic loot, a snapper scroll, and something incredible: an ice block rune! I made my way back up to the second floor and opened a shortcut by knocking over a pillar. That's when I finally went right and entered a neat little church area. There was a locked door here that to no one's surprise was opened with the key. Inside were an amulet and a bunch of potions.. including a +1 strength potion! As happy as I was, I then noticed that the amulet I had just picked up gave me a whopping +10 strength! Now I could even equip the sword I had found in the shadowbeast cave.
After this I explored a little further but only found two (admittedly nice) bows, so I said goodbye to the place and jumped off the monastery into the sea 60 meters below. Marvin's adamantium cranium took the impact in stride and I swam into the sunset.
