would you buy a G1R DLC?

I’ve been thinking about how the “Piranha Bytes Way” of doing Gothic and their other rpgs usually works as a cone right? big world at the start thats narrows down the further you go. It has always been part of the criticism the game recives as it makes rather irrelevant which camp you choose and whatnot (this is somewhat improved in Gothic 2 but very evident in Gothic 1). Im on my second playthrough of the remake and as i arrive into chapter two id love to get a few more sidequests alongside the main one, so i was wondering if the community would like it if a few months from now alkimia released a sort of NOTR equivalent for G1R, as to have expanded chapters 2-3-4? or something like that. It could be camp specific quests that delay the main quest a bit, expanded old camp mine content (making the mine a lot bigger idk), having additional content for the firemages prior to >!their execution, or additional interactions with the water mages and their plan to blow the ore!<, maybe some additional character specific quests from diego, lester, gorn, milten?

What are your thoughts? I think id be a good in between for alkimia to have an additional money stream if they are indeed thinking of remaking g2 since i figure it wouldnt take as long as a full game but could keep the hype going? i just think they made a beautiful (albeit buggy) rendition of the world and would love to see it expanded further.

Gothic Remake Launch Follow-Up: Spoilers, Megathreads, and Gothic 2 Remake "Confirmations"

Hey everyone,

First of all: thank you.

The subreddit has grown to more than 456,000 members, which is honestly wild for a community built around more than two decades old eurojank videogame from Germany.

The Gothic Remake launch has brought in a lot of new players, returning fans, long-time lurkers, modders, veterans, confused newcomers, technical troubleshooters, screenshot enjoyers, and, somehow, an entire horde of vibecoded lockpicking assistant apps.

So, a few moderation updates.

Spoilers

The Gothic Remake spoiler megathread has been fairly inactive for a while, so we are unpinning it.

It will remain available, and people are still free to use it, but we are no longer going to keep it pinned just so it can sit there like an abandoned ore cart.

That said: the spoiler rules still apply.

Please keep using Reddit's spoiler feature when discussing Gothic Remake story content. This includes:

  • Story details
  • Quest outcomes
  • Character reveals
  • Endings
  • Major discoveries
  • Significant changes compared to Gothic 1 Classic

Yes, Gothic 1 is more than 20 years old. No, that does not mean everyone has played it. The remake has brought in a lot of new players, and some of them are entering the Colony for the first time.

Do not put spoilers in post titles.

Posts with unmarked spoilers or spoilers in titles may be removed at moderator discretion.

Gothic 2 Remake "Confirmed" Posts

We are also temporarily suspending low-effort "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed" posts.

To be clear: this does not mean discussion about a possible Gothic 2 Remake is banned.

You can talk about whether you want it, what it should change, what it should preserve, how Night of the Raven should be handled, what the setting could look like, and whether the swampweed smuggling deserves a full simulation remodel in Khorinis.

What we are suspending are posts that treat every tiny hint, vague comment, job listing, LinkedIn update, background texture, developer reply, or dream-induced prophecy as proof that Gothic 2 Remake is confirmed.

The Remake sold well. That is good news. But unless there is an actual official announcement, Gothic 2 Remake is not confirmed.

I mean it is almost given they will do it, I know, but still. We have already lived through decades of "Half-Life 3 confirmed" jokes as a species. We do not need to speedrun the same cultural illness with "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed" posts because someone found the number 2 in a developer's grocery list.

Poorly sourced theorycraft videos making huge claims from prerelease screenshots also fall under this. If the whole argument is basically red circles, arrows, and "you won't believe what this means" then no, probably not. In the sea of AI slop, we forgot even we can make some A-grade slop ourselves without wasting so much water.

If you want to discuss the possibility of Gothic 2 Remake in a broader way, this is a good thread for that: https://www.reddit.com/r/worldofgothic/comments/1uk1tif/are_you_excited_for_gothic_2_remake/

Technical Issues and Bug Reports

If you encounter bugs, crashes, broken quests, performance problems, or other remake-related issues, please report them through the official THQ Nordic / Alkimia bug reporting page:

https://bugreporting.thqnordic.com/#/projects/150/gothic-1-remake-community/add-issue

You are still welcome to discuss technical issues here, but with that link, you have a better chance of developers hearing you up.

Thanks

Thanks again to everyone helping keep the subreddit active, readable, and mostly sane. I'm looking at you, helmet man.

Report spoilers, keep titles clean, avoid duplicate posts, and please do not make us moderate the seventeenth "Gothic 2 Remake confirmed because I saw one of the devs do a peace sign, which is same as 2" post this week.

See you in the Colony.

Why so harsh on magic.

Hi, I love the remake, really do but... Why butcher the mages so much ? I did playthrough as a warrior first and honestly ones when you take 2 handed weapon even without investing in skills for it , it is overpowered a lot. Second playthrough, decided to go my favourite class, a mage. Man, I don't understand it. Slow casting time, no companions to tank for you. Damage from high circle spells is ridiculously low comparing how much investing it needs. They did magic so dirty, I was forced to play with mods to feel on equal levels as warriors and hunters. Even as a mage I caught myself getting enough strenth to atack with weapons because it is more worth it.

Share your Gothic playtime

Steam playtime ,recent years, Not counting when Gothic 1 and 2 were released, it would add more than all

I have 50 hours in the original Gothic 1,

70 h in the Gothic Remake (2 completed playthroughs),

Gothic 2 .. 80 h, and 120 hours in Archolos from a single playthrough.

I have my winner, what is yours?

Monk Build Journey continue!!! Defeat minecrawler queen with fist!!!

Fist-fighting to minecrawler queen is very satisfy. She gave me a lot of trouble in my 1st playthrough. After this and orc cemetery I will join fire mage and try Monk/Mage.

Why a Risen Remake is the Key to Saving Gothic 3

G1R has been out for a month, the reviews are trending up, and G2R feels almost inevitable. But the real question nobody is talking about is what comes after that.

We all know that G3 was not shipped in the best way possible:

  • Its a massive game, even for today standards(2-4x the size of Skyrim)
  • It is half empty compared to G1 and G2,it is many times the size of G2, but density of stuff is noticeably poorer
  • The city/town conquest loop, one of G3's central features, is repetitive and poorly executed.
  • Story is half-finished
  • Varant and even Nordmar to some degree are empty place holders

I don't think Embracer/THQ Nordic would want to give them 6-8 years to make G3 Remake, especially after splitting Fellowship Entertainment. THQ Nordic cant afford 6-8 years of silence from its main IP

Even doing a retold story of Gothic 3 which would be many times smaller would take at least 6 years (since its almost like designing a new game) and that would be out of question after the already mentioned split.

I presume most of what they could get is 5 years + 0.5 for polishing at best, if they have product done by those 5 years.

Even to make decision like that Faithful vs Retold version is going to take time, time that is of essence for Publisher and New Embracer.

In the new climate, Gothic is going to become main IP, THE MAIN IP of New Embracer and THQ Nordic...They would need a new Gothic game every 5 year cycle.

So what could be done?

CONTEXT: With G1R, Risen is now officially a part of Gothic universe(Risen flags in Gothic Remake, etc) and that is not by the chance, but a brilliant marketing strategy. Risen 1 is popular with Gothic fans, plays kinda similar and even its story feels like it connects to G3 ending.

After finishing G2R, studio would probably have around ~60 employees

They can split two teams

Team A: Gothic 4: Chronicles of Faranga / Gothic 4: Tales of Faranga (Risen 1 Remake as Gothic spinoff from main story, better for marketing and franchise momentum)

40-45 people

4-5 Years to make

Team B: Gothic 3 Remake

15-20 people, The community patch authors are an untapped resource Alkimia has direct access to. The community that maintained Gothic 3 for 15+ years documented every bug, every broken quest, etc.

Pre-production

This way Alkimia can make new Gothic/Risen game while working on Gothic 3 pre-production for 4-5 years without any pressure from publisher.

In that 4-5 years pre-production they can:

  • Discuss about potential of Faithful Remake vs Retold,
  • Fully design and prototype the new city conquest system (the single most important problem to solve),
  • Build a narrative bible and full story structure,
  • Think about what to do with Varant and Nordmar emptiness, if they want to go for Faithful remake they would probably go for Myrtana+Nordmar as Main game and Varant as DLC(like NOtR for G2),
  • Develop the world density systems,
  • many other things.

In the mean time Team A would work on G4(Risen 1 Remake) which is around the same size as G2, maybe even less. G4 would work as R&D for G3R of some kind, Alkimia can develop systems that are missing for G3.

When Gothic 4 ships and 40 people rotate over, G3 doesn't start from zero. It starts from a solved design with a proven prototype.

Newgen here, after playing Gothic Remake, gotta say, nameless is one of the most badass/cool main characters I've seen

This guy is a menace, easily getting any faction/man trust with his charisma, defeating very strong enemies solo and doing more things in a few weeks that most of the people could do in a lifetime

Cleaned the orc enclave relatively early, will it break my game (gothic remake)

Hello everyone

I’m in chapter 3, gothic difficulty. I’ve started exploring orc area when I’ve got the warder armor maxed out, as well as the two handed skill lvl3.

I managed to get into the orc enclave through the mountains, and I basically wiped it out. However there is one orc on the throne I can’t kill (he just won’t die) is it normal? Am I supposed to be in this area? I know I’m not supposed to be there but is that bad?

Final boss design makes no justice to a great game

>!I even like the first part of the dreams of the nameless hero but demon cor kalom is a mess.!<
>!Why would you design a boss with stunlocking and chasing spells in such a small arena, especially in a game with such objects collision problems?!<
>!Why rage of innos damages him more that uriziel?!<

I am a little disappointed and i hope they will improve the fight over time.

What do you think?

If only i could tell my younger self...

how much easier the first chapter is if you actually start investing lp from the getgo...

I always did the whole chapter 1 (including clearing pretty much the entire Khorinismap) without spending any lp apart from lockpicking and sneaking, since i could never decide which faction and playstyle to choose.

I distinctively remember the merc-fights and quests to be such a nightmare, while now they where a breeze.

What discoveries did you guys make over the years that would have made the game for your youngerself much easier if they knew?

What's up with helmet obsession?

Why are there so many posts focusing on helmets? Are their absence so immersion breaking that we need them in-game otherwise it's a "shit" game/remake or what.
