Gothic 2 Modernized - Modern Renderer is available for testing!

Hey guys! I’m opening the test version of my new DX11 Renderer for public testing.

Below you can see how it compares to the amazing GD3D11 renderer. The first image is GD3D11, the second is Modern Renderer. Almost everything is adjustable.

You can download the first public version here. I’d really appreciate it if you could send me your feedback via private messages. Performance, bugs (if any), overall impressions and everything else. Thank you, and have fun playing!

Installation: simply unpack ddraw.dll into your System folder and launch the game.

Day x of modernizing Gothic 2 NotR until Alkimia hires me :D

The looks aren't final obviously.

Why:

  • Controller/Keyboard oriented
  • Quality of life features: bulk use, equipment panel, 3 sets - no more hustle with changing your rings and amulets to be able to steal something
  • Categories
  • Many small improvements like acceleration and viewport centering on scrolling
  • Your primary stats like in G1R
  • Some features will be customizable, like in all my plugins

Still, I wanted to save that gothic feel with item cards and descriptions instead of making it list-based.

And a couple of quest icons from the new quest journal

Gothic Modernized - A set of QoL plugins by me (WIP)

https://preview.redd.it/hg2lp3cyugoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d5ce24a670616dac0ab397a91f1dd6818f48c5a

Alkimia, hire me please :)

Hey guys, after playing Gothic 1 Remake, replaying the good old Gothic 2 was a struggle even with all those beautiful QoL plugins the community created over the years so I've decided to give the OG game some love.

Using Union, I've developed some nice QoL plugins that don't change how the game works but will definitely change how you approach it.

New Sleep UI:

This one was okay in the first place. I just created a new UI for it, added the current time and it autochooses the closest time so most of the time you only need to press one button.

https://preview.redd.it/w2m6gca9pgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=424fb4bff7ab5693915550b694a58772998ca98d

New Lockpick UI:

Listening to the game is nice and all but it quickly gets old. Now there's the UI that reacts to the lockpicking with some small animations, shows you the arrows that you guessed right and the amount of the lockpicks you have.

https://preview.redd.it/59q9wn8opgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b98da43487b0ae63b24f0407ee6d2c026858075b

Items Hunter:

If you find pixelhunting the loot boring, this one is for you. It marks the visible loot in the set distance by accurate dots so you don't have to check every bush.

It also adds some popups when you pick up or receive loot through dialogue with correct names (ie no scroll but fire rain"

It also adds a butch pickup feature for all those groups of muchrooms, arrows and coins laying in a small proximity to each other. You pick one, you pick every one of them if they are close enough.

All of these are highly configurable and works without other features.

Modern Crafting UI:

I've almost never used the alchemy because of those dialogue windows and how horrible it was to craft them one by one each time. Never again! Now when you craft, you get to see this new UI that doesn't finish crafting after each potion. So you can craft them in bunches, you can see your resources and you even see other recipes you don't know yet (configurable, otherwise you get to see a closed recipe with a question mark). Works with every crafting station

https://preview.redd.it/c1e65swyqgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=783768818bbb9c69ae47b78d29e219b381168ead

I didn't add the amount for runes since you usually need only one

https://preview.redd.it/87wx26w3rgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e1955bd3b0794c73bef2d1b4f470e178022bb02

Modern Journal

Another thing I hated in the OG. It was hard to navigate, hard to find a relevant information so I only used it when I had to. This Journal is still WIP although technically it's almost ready. I'd love to draw more icons for the main quests at least but we'll see. I categorized all vanilla quests, now you get to see the name, the location, the questgiver, and new items are very noticeable because every quest gets a mark like "+1" when it gets updated so you see how many new items there are. It also works with both keyboard and zGamepad. You can adjust some visual and behavior settings as well.

https://preview.redd.it/11kdb02wrgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9ded884397482ee71f631945093870c84c39572

https://preview.redd.it/u4nwfxo0sgoh1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31c10f06f20ee2f6576e31e309211af5ef88dc3d

I still work on them and test them so I'll release them as soon as they are ready. Testing really helps to see what works and what doesn't so they have gotten much better by now.

I released a gesture drawing tool on Cubebrush. Now Marc Brunet has released a very similar one under ArtSchool.

Hi everyone. I’m a vector illustrator currently learning digital painting, and a hobbyist developer.

Two months ago, after about six weeks of development, I released GestureFlow on Cubebrush. I originally built it for myself and for other artists who want a more convenient way to practise gesture drawing and study references.

Today I discovered that Marc Brunet has released Quick Gesture under his own name as part of the ARTSchool range.

The issue is not simply that both applications are gesture timers. Quick Gesture reproduces a highly specific structure from GestureFlow: the same four session modes, with the same names and descriptions, arranged in the same 2×2 layout; the same reference-folder section; the same streak, practice-time and heatmap panel; followed by image count, shuffle, time presets, unlimited mode, smart breaks, session summary and a wide Start Practice button.

Even the promotional graphic explaining the launcher uses nearly the same screen and numbered callout format.

GestureFlow was already publicly available and being sold on Cubebrush before Quick Gesture was released. Marc is not an unrelated developer who could easily have been unaware of it. He runs the marketplace where my product was listed, and the Quick Gesture page explicitly says that the application was made by him.

Because he controls the platform and has a much larger audience, he can immediately place his version in front of artists, while the earlier product it closely resembles becomes much harder to discover.

I’m not claiming that my source code was copied, because I have no evidence of that. I am saying that the product structure, mode system, interface layout and supporting features appear to have been reproduced with extraordinary specificity.

I’m a small independent creator trying to make a living while illustration work is becoming increasingly unstable. I honestly do not understand why someone with Marc’s reach and resources would choose to release a product this close to one already being sold by a small developer on his own marketplace.

I have preserved both product pages, dated release materials and development history. I’m sharing the comparison here because I would like to hear how other artists and independent developers see this situation.

It's a disaster

Okay, so everyone knows already that new limits suck. Me, I've been using Gemini to write code for my personal project. Now it's completely unusable for me.

For example: I pay for PRO and I already gave up trying to feed it long scripts and similar things. I subscribed to Chatgpt (again) and continued to work with it. Today I've sent two chatgpt solutions to Gemini (pro extended) to get a conclusion about apps architecture. They weren't even that long.

First one was 40%

Second one was 37%

77% in two(!) messages without even producing any code.

Okay, maybe Flash is good? No, compared to 3.1 pro it's garbage. It hallucinates badly, its base of knowledge is obsolete (it recommends me using chatgpt 4o and sonnet 2.5), and it wasn't aware of its own memory. I asked something about my app and it didn't know what it was (pro was aware, no problems).

How come I get more usage with Claude without any subscription than with Gemini Pro?

I need to check usage after every message now just to see if I'm able to send another message? How did they even come up with this bright idea?
