How do you keep your hands moisturized?

I’ve struggled with this for years but thought I’d throw it to this lovely and supportive group for any suggestions. I wash my hands so many times per day they’re constantly dry, often cracked and bleeding. I’ve recently started washing up to my elbows so now my arms are starting to become similarly dry. I try to remember to put on lotion but I don’t often have it on hand. Anyone have any tips to help?

Encouragement and ways to get through the school year?

I’m curious how other teachers helped to keep a good attitude and maintain focus when they’ve had to spend another year at a school they don’t want to be at.

That’s my situation right now. I had been hunting for another position during hiring season last year, and I was in the final pool for a position at another school, but it didn’t work out. I’m heartbroken and dreading the school year starting. Where I’m at is not the place for me - don’t want to overshare on social media but it’s a private religious school and I’ve found that, despite the school advertising themselves as inclusive and diverse, they’re anything but. I take issue with a number of things the administration and other teachers stand for and was sort of bamboozled when I was hired there by my department who presented a really different picture than the reality.

I keep telling myself that the kids are my focus, the classroom is my focus. That’s what I love and that’s what I need to give all my attention to. But as all teachers know, it’s kind of impossible to not get distracted by the million other things going on at a school. I’m dreading the bs and having to be at least another year at a place that’s so against everything I stand for. I’ll start the job hunt again when hiring season begins, but for at least this year I’m stuck, and I hate it. Anyone have any positive advice or tips to cope and keep a brave face on?

Ashley

Ok Killian is absolutely terrible, as is Hayley, but Ashley also is a complete mess.

Aside from being as dumb as a box of soggy rocks, this girl is the queen of deflecting accountability. She zeroes in on Blake and Hayley as the “master manipulators,” and holds Killian 0% responsible for any of his horrifically abusive behaviors. That the gang 🍇 texts weren’t the absolute end of things just shows me this woman is either the receiver of a recent lobotomy or that these behaviors of Killian’s are normalized for her. The way she excuses his actions away are almost as despicable as the actions themselves.

And the way this woman uses her White Woman Tears the moment anyone attempts to call her out for less than stellar behaviors is deeply concerning.

Cleaners in the House and OCD

I just had a horrible experience and I’m currently sitting on my couch in tears.

My partner and I budgeted for a house cleaner to come once a month in our new place. I have spent the last few days decontaminating it to a place I feel acceptable, but I’m a teacher and on summer break. We really liked the idea of having a once a month cleaner and thought it would help me with my ocd.

I had ONE request for the cleaners: close the lid before you flush the toilet. That was literally my single request. One thing. ONE.

FOUR TIMES she flushed the toilet, lid open. I know because I didn’t think I heard it close, and I walked over to check and sure enough, open lid.

I asked them to leave because they didn’t follow my directions. The woman claimed she misunderstood what I was asking, but I really don’t know how she could have misunderstood as I was explaining it in a lot of detail exactly what I needed. I honestly think she was just ignoring me and doing what she wanted. Especially because she then argued with me despite me still paying her.

I’m curled in a ball on my couch and shaking and crying right now. I feel like my whole house has been contaminated and needs to be cleaned again, but I’m also paralyzed with what to do to even start decontaminating. Let alone being argued with and disrespected in my own home after a simple request.

Need advice - got an “offer” from another school, but only if I quit my current school first

I’m in a really strange position and I don’t know what to do. I work at a private school and have been looking to leave. I interviewed at another private school in the area, and I was contacted by their HR department and told that they essentially want to extend an offer to me, but because I’ve already signed a contract with my existing school, they can’t do that until I tell my current school I want to get out of my contract.

This new school also won’t tell me any information about my salary or compensation because they can’t “officially” extend me an offer. So I’m supposed to go to the admin and tell them I want to leave without a guaranteed offer of employment from another school or even an idea what my salary might be?

I’m also worried I could put my existing job at stake. Last year a teacher was let go mid-year for making a comment that didn’t align with the strict religious views of the school. (This is an example of one of the many reasons I’m looking to leave.) The school clearly has no qualms with severing peoples’ contracts and if they know I want to leave, what’s to say they just rescind mine before the new year starts?

What the heck do I do here?
