🛵 EV motorbike road trip in Indonesia: Jakarta - Cirebon (250 km)
Now here’s something you don’t see often around these parts. It’s a Polytron Fox R, my Indonesian scooter. It was designed in China but manufactured locally in Kudus.
Here pictured charging on a standard AC Type 2 charger, converted with an adapter into a Schuko 2 pin plug which then feeds into the charger and eventually out a Chogori M23 plug. (We have special IoT sockets you can QR-pay for charging two wheelers as well, but they were out of order when I arrived at this charging point.)
Went on a solo roadtrip to Cirebon from Jakarta lately. It was only about 250 km but had to charge overnight (4 hours, might as well sleep in the mosque) + another hour and a half of charge as I only have a silly 10A slow charger and haven’t invested in a fast one.
Luckily the charging infrastructure here is Indonesia is pretty good, PLN the state owned electricity company has been endeavoring to install them in every one of their representative offices and we have those all the way to the small villages. There’s even a few in small remote islands in which no one had business for range, last I checked.
Manufacturer claimed range is about 120 km, but IME this bad boy can go to 130-150 if the road’s open and you ask nicely using the cruise control. It’s only half a dollar to full charge. Top speed at 96 km/h. Price was under $1000. Design matches the old Japanese ICE stuff from Honda and Yamaha we have a lot of.
2nd image is the Sunyaragi Cave Park in Cirebon, one of the destinations. It is a Cirebonese early 18th century royal pleasure garden made out of coral and brick.
(Mods: I know rules say no e-scooters, but my bike requires a license to drive on public roads, so it’s technically a motorbike shaped like a scooter.)
