Ryzen 7 5700X3D + RX 7800 XT stuck at ~100-140 FPS in VALORANT (CPU-bound)
Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core / 16 Threads
Motherboard: ASUS (B-450 ROG-style BIOS)
BIOS Version: Unknown (can check if needed)
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3600 CL18 (CMK32GX4M2D3600C18) – Dual Channel, DOCP/XMP enabled
PSU: Unknown
Case: Unknown
Operating System & Version: Windows 64-bit
GPU Drivers: Latest AMD Adrenalin (exact version unknown)
Chipset Drivers: Unknown
Background Applications: Medal (with overlay), Discord, Chrome, Riot Client, Vanguard
Description of Original Problem:
VALORANT is heavily CPU-bound and stuck at only 100–140 FPS on a 5700X3D + 7800 XT system.
- CPU (Game) Time sits around 7.0 ms (limiting FPS)
- GPU utilization only ~60% and very low power draw (~75-85W)
- CPU Wait GPU Time = 0.0 ms
- Overall CPU utilization only ~64% (not fully saturated)
- I have previously hit ~260 FPS with 4.2 ms Game Time, so the hardware is capable of more.
Troubleshooting:
- All VALORANT settings on Low, Multithreaded Rendering ON, no FPS limit, VSync off, FSR off
- AMD Adrenalin: Radeon Chill, Enhanced Sync, and frame limiting all disabled
- Fixed RAM from default 2133 MHz to proper 3600 MHz via DOCP/XMP
- Confirmed dual-channel RAM
- CPU temps ~60°C, clocks ~4.0–4.05 GHz
- GPU temps normal
- Switched Windows power plan to High Performance
- Only overlay running is Medal (I want to keep it)
- Closed as many other background programs as possible
Still stuck with high CPU Game Time and low FPS.
