Planning to take the Chemistry Board Exam as a non-Chem graduate

Hello everyone!

I'm a fresh Biology grad na planong itake yung Chem Boards sometime in the future and balak ko na magreview ngayon palang. Tho nahihirapan lang ako on where to start since sobrang lawak ng Chemistry and ang alam ko lang ay very very surface level Anachem, Orgchem, and Biochem thanks sa undergrad courses ko.

I would love to hear some general tips on how to start reviewing as a naliligaw HAHAHAHA. I do have some questions para sa mga nagrereview/nakapagtake na ng Chem Boards:

  1. What resources did you use to review? May mga books ba kayo na masusuggest, and if so saan sila pwede maaccess?

  2. Meron ba kayo general tips on how to study Chemistry? What techniques ang nagwork sa inyo?

Ayun langg. Tyiaa :DD

Thoughts on entering a biochemistry-leaning Master's thesis topic with a non-chemistry bachelor's?

Hello chemistry people. I could use some advice.

I just graduated my Bachelor's degree in Biology (specialized in ecology) and I am planning to pursue my research career further by taking my Master's. I have applied for a masters degree program that I can confidently say is my passion program, and during my application I was asked to discuss briefly my field of interest for my thesis. I have had something in mind from the papers I was reading and I really wanted to do something similar for my thesis, but what concerns me is that it was very, VERY heavy in biochemistry, both in concept and lab.

I wasn't too scared of chemistry during my undergrad, but I wasn't great at it either. I wanna say I am interested in biochemistry (because I kind of am, but my undergrad grades don't reflect that unfortunately hahaha), but I worry that my undergraduate chem classes weren't enough to provide me with the necessary knowledge or lab skills for my Masters.

I guess I wanted to ask for advice on whether I should pursue this thesis topic or just focus on another topic that is less biochem-leaning. If I were to pursue this topic, I'd like to ask some tips on where to start learning biochemistry, like maybe some books for beginners? idk.

Thanks reddit.

I want to move out from my family

I knew this feeling was coming ever since nag-4th year nako.

For context, I have just moved back in with my family after living in a dorm far away for 4 years for college. I have to say, being away from family and living in a dorm really helped me with my personal growth. It's the best thing that has happened to me so far.

Because of this, simula 4th year I had a creeping feeling na I wouldn't be happy when I move back in with my family. And now na grad nako and I'm living with them again, I can say na it's really true.

Maraming rason kung bakit hindi ako masaya dito na I will not go over. But its enough for me to fear that it might further strain my mental health and lead to something worse. I can also see me developing bad habits gaya ng panay labas ng bahay or late na paguwi para lang makaiwas sakanila (I have a tendency to do that sa dorm ko).

I have this growing urge to just move out. Live a (truly) independent life kapag may trabaho nako and nakaipon na ng pera. I just don't know how to tell them. I truly love my family and hindi mawawala ang pagprovide ko sakanila ng pinansya, pero alam ko sa sarili ko na kailangan ko maging independent sakanila. And I know na mahal din nila ako. Kaya alam ko na masasaktan sila kapag sinabi ko na balak kong lumipat. Apat na taon ba naman wala anak nila.

Ayun lang, for now titiisin ko nalang kasi wala pang trabaho and pera. Diko rin alam kung yung makukuha kong pera ay sapat na para makalipat ng bahay. But who knows, maybe I'll grow over it. Baka soon ay okay lang sakin magstay--SANA ay maging okay lang sakin magstay. Ayokong saktan pamilya ko, pero ayoko rin pabayaan lang sarili ko.
