Can I reapply to peace corps after ETing?

I ETed from Peace Corps about three months into my service because I ultimately felt that the country/placement wasn’t the right match for me.
I’m considering applying to Peace Corps again in the future, potentially for a different country or region that I think would be a better fit. Has anyone here ETed voluntarily and later reapplied?
Were you accepted again? How much did your previous ET come up during the application/interview process? I’m wondering if ETing once significantly hurts my chances of being invited to serve again.

Who’s going to the reggaeton festival tomorrow ?

Hey everyone I’m a 23 year old black female who has been learning Spanish and I’m really interested in going to the reggaeton festival tomorrow . The only thing is I don’t have anyone to go with me. I am pretty used to doing things alone but I would also love to have people to share experiences with too. I would love to meet some new people who have the same interests as me! Im looking for more people who enjoy going out and clubbing. I’ve found that many people I met don’t like it and that’s okay but I still want to do it and I would love sharing memories! I’m outgoing I like festivals and high energy things but I can also do chill things too!

Anyone in the Jacksonville Fl area?

Hey everyone I’m 23 and I just moved back to the states after months of traveling and living abroad. My social life here is pretty dead and it’s been a struggle especially since my car stopped working. I am planning to buy a car soon though. The town I live in is about 30 minutes from Jacksonville and it’s pretty boring here. No culture really nothing to do. Speaking of that, I’ve had some very negative experiences with white women and I’m even sad to say with some members of the Hispanic community so now i naturally am less inclined to pursue their friendships. I feel like I’m kinda a “weird” black girl as some would say. I like learning about different cultures, I speak Spanish , I’m into things that many people from around my town would think is “weird”. I’m a very outgoing person but I can do chill things too. Just looking for some real community and consistent friends. If anyone is interested please DM me❤️

For those hired as GS-9 CBP Officers, how long did your hiring process take from application to FLETC?

I'm just trying to gauge the average processing time of applications from start to finish. I'm hoping to get JFK

Is $72k with roommates livable in the Bronx or Brooklyn?

I recently received a federal government job offer starting at around $72,000 a year, and I’m considering moving back to New York City.
I actually lived in NYC during college a few years ago and absolutely loved it, but at the time I couldn’t really afford to stay. Now that I’m in a different stage of my career, I’m thinking about coming back.
I’d most likely have roommates and have been looking at the Bronx or Brooklyn, since I’d like to be somewhere that’s a little more affordable but still has a lot of culture. I’m a Black woman, so being in a neighborhood with a strong Caribbean and Black community is definitely a plus

GS-9 CBPO Applicant Hoping for NYC/JFK – How Competitive Is It Really?

I recently received a tentative offer for CBPO at the GS-9 level and am currently working my way through the hiring process.
One of my biggest goals is to move back to the New York City area. I previously lived in NYC and would love the opportunity to return, whether that’s in the city itself, New Jersey, Long Island, or somewhere else within commuting distance.
For those of you who have gone through the process recently:
How competitive is JFK compared to other ports?
Did you receive your preferred location when you got the final offer?
How long did it take you to go from tentative offer to final offer?
If you work at JFK, Newark, or another NYC-area port, how do you like it?
Are transfers into the NYC area realistic if you start somewhere else?
I’ve heard JFK is a highly sought-after location, so I’m curious what the chances are of getting it and what others’ experiences have been.
Looking forward to hearing from current officers and applicants. Thanks!

Trying to transition into remote work from a Criminal Justice background , what roles should I focus on?

Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to transition into remote work pretty urgently and would appreciate honest advice about roles I realistically have a strong chance of getting hired for quickly.

I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and have nearly 2 years of experience working in corrections/detention. My work involved report writing, incident documentation, conflict resolution, monitoring behavior, communicating with multiple departments, and staying calm in high-stress situations. That experience made me realize I’m especially interested in work connected to community support, social impact, rehabilitation, outreach, and helping people navigate systems/resources.

I also have experience in customer service, assisted living, and community-based volunteer work in a cross-cultural environment where I communicate in Spanish daily. My Spanish is conversational/intermediate and improving through immersion.

I’m trying to figure out what remote jobs would align best with my background while also being realistic to land quickly. I’ve been looking into things like:

  • Community outreach coordinator
  • Social justice/nonprofit roles
  • Reentry support or case management
  • Victim advocacy support roles
  • Fraud prevention/investigations
  • Intake specialist positions
  • Trust & safety/content moderation
  • Crisis text/chat support
  • Customer success or support
  • Remote administrative/coordinator positions

I know I don’t come from a traditional tech background, but I do have experience working directly with people, handling stressful situations, writing reports, and communicating across different environments.

For people who made the switch into remote work from criminal justice, human services, nonprofit, or public service backgrounds , what roles hired you the fastest? Are there companies or fields that value transferable skills more than direct remote experience?

Thinking about moving back to DR permanently and want advice on where to live

I’m an American who lived in the Dominican Republic for about 6 months, in Santo Domingo Este. Before moving, I visited three times. During that time I improved my Spanish a lot, made friendships, and became really attached to the culture and lifestyle. After leaving, I realized I still think about DR all the time and honestly want to return one day and live there permanently.
Looking back now, I think I was living in an overpriced apartment in Santo Domingo Este. The view from my apartment was literally the back of a hospital lol. The area I stayed in also seemed more fancy/quiet, and sometimes it felt isolating or kind of dead socially. People mostly stayed inside and there wasn’t much neighborhood energy around me.
Some of my favorite moments in DR were actually in places where there were people outside talking, music playing, colmados active, kids outside, and more everyday community life. I realized I probably want somewhere with a little more liveliness and community around me instead of a super quiet area.
I know some foreigners avoid barrios, but part of me wonders if I’d actually enjoy living in one more because I care a lot about connection, culture, and language immersion.
For people who’ve lived in different parts of Santo Domingo or DR in general:
What’s the reality of living in a barrio long term?
Do you build a stronger sense of community there?
What areas have a good balance between being lively/authentic and still reasonably safe?
Would especially love perspectives from Dominicans or foreigners who have lived in DR long term.
