Using dating apps as an omni

Hello everyone! I’ve identified as omni for a few months now. I've had a really tough time lately trying to navigate severe side effects and withdrawal from a medication, while also figuring out my queer identity.

But now, I feel like I might be ready to start dating soon. Not just yet, but within a couple of months. I’ve only dated someone once, and that was a very long time ago. I’m quite shy and reserved around new people, so I think I’d prefer meeting someone through a dating app.

What kind of experiences do you have with dating apps? Which one(s) do you find the most queer-friendly? Do you mention in your profile that you’re omnisexual?

Coming out to a conservative friend

Hi! I have identified as omnisexual for a few months, and I’m also questioning my gender identity. I’m definitely genderqueer but feel myself (mostly) a woman.

I have a long-time friend who is very dear to me. We have known each other for decades and in a way we bond very well. We have common interests, for example music, and have a lot of fun together. The problem is, that she is very conservative. I’m a feminist and cultural liberal. We have had some disagreements about things, for example abortion, but have got along quite well because we have avoided those topics.

My identity, however, isn’t a subject that I could avoid forever. I have been thinking about our friendship a lot lately. If I would start dating someone, I couldn’t keep hiding my identity from her. That would be unfair to everyone involved. I’m afraid of her reaction and have been considering whether I should tell her or just end the friendship.

Has anyone had a similar situation? How did you handle that and how did things turn out?

Songs that helped you embrace your LGBTQIA+ identity?

My fellow LGBTQIA+ people who are music lovers, please tell me about songs that have helped you in accepting or embracing your identity.

For me that song is definitely ’Choose Your Fighter’ by Ava Max. When I heard it for the first time, it felt as if she was singing to me.

What is that song for you?

Question about gender identity: Could a cisgender person feel this way?

Hi all!

I’m a woman (AFAB) and I’ve identified as omnisexual for a few months now (attraction to all genders, with gender being a factor in the attraction). Exploring my sexuality has made me think more about my own gender identity as well.

Right now, I identify as a genderqueer woman, but I’m still not sure if I fall under the non-binary umbrella.

Here is what I’ve been wondering: I feel totally fine with my feminine body. However, I feel like I would also be just as fine with a masculine body. It’s more of a feeling of neutrality rather than distress.

I wonder if a cisgender person could feel like this? Has anyone else had a similar experience? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Did your attraction to women develop in stages?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to hear about experiences from other women in this community.

When I first realized I was attracted to women, it felt purely romantic and sensual. I couldn't really picture myself being sexual with a woman, even though the emotional attraction was strong.

However, over time, things have shifted. Lately, I’ve noticed that certain types of women have started to attract me sexually as well.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of gradual shift? Is it common for romantic or sensual attraction to develop first, followed by sexual attraction later on? I’d love to hear your stories.

Why is gatekeeping labels still so common in the queer community?

I genuinely want to understand the psychology behind this. Why do some people feel entitled to judge, debate, or invalidate the specific labels that another person uses for their own identity?

It feels wrong because our community should be about acceptance and support. I'd love to hear your thoughts or how you handle these situations.

This community feels like a safe haven

Hi everyone,

I’ve identified as omnisexual for only a few months now. I’m still quite new to this, but finding this identity has been really important to me. I also identify as queer, but I really need the omni identity to help structure and understand my sexuality.

Unfortunately, I’ve already experienced discrimination and invalidation because of my omnisexuality. It has been tough, but finding this subreddit has changed everything. This group truly feels like a safe haven for me on Reddit and across the whole Internet.

I wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for creating such a supportive and safe space. It means the world to me.

Since I'm still new, I would love to hear from others: what were your early months like after realizing you are omni, and did you find similar comfort in this community?
