SD Kronos, Lantern Fly, zip bag catching technique
Spotted Lantern Fly meal.
I use my gallon ziplock storage bag technique to catch these (and flies too).
I roll or fold down the zip part (like a sock top) so the bag stays open then hold by the corners to keep it open and sneak up slowly on the prey. The insects usually fly up into the bag as I carefully place it over/near them. Insects almost always move toward the light, so I’ll point a corner that way and after the bug crawls into the corner I pinch or twist-tie the bag just below them to catch more. Then I’ll reach in with tweezers to feed a trap or multiple traps. Sometimes I put the sealed bag in the fridge to slow them down or if I want to feed later.
If you or a neighbor have a dog you can get the bag close or over a plop of poop without it touching the bag and catch like 20 flies at a time this way.
