Let's talk about Emmaline and what we already know about her, plus some running theories.

Background

We know Emmaline was from an old family, raised outside the life.

> The term 'old' makes me wonder what this statement refers to:

1. A renowned wealthy family with good social standing but no Mafia ties.

2. A smaller Mafia family that aren't as reputable as the well known crime families.

3. A family with powerful influence who were corrupt and got involved in illicit dealings but weren't Mafia.

There must be a reason why Gabriel's uncle hastily arranged the marriage between Gabriel and Emmaline.

> I ask myself questions such as:

1. Where would Raphael have found her if she didn't have Mafia ties?

2. The Angelini family are a strong, reputable criminal family, so what made Raphael turn to Emmlaine as a marriage candidate for a Mafia Underboss?

3. Gabriel said the marriage was arranged by 'our families', meaning her family would of had some involvement and been aware of the situation.

A part of me believes it was a manipulation tactic on Raphael's end. An incentive that would give Raphael control over Gabriel once a young heir was born, bringing vulnerability into Gabriel's life and threat to his immediate family - a wife and young child.

Emmaline and Emeric - Mystery Connection

Emeric is seen with a drawing of Emmaline at his desk, which forms a mystery connection between the two characters.

> I've listed some things below that I and other fans have picked up on:

• Someone pointed out that Emmaline and Emeric's names both start with "Em", suggesting they could be related.

• Emeric has hetreochromia and one of his eyes is a dark violet, very similar to Emmaline's.

• Emeric claims he will fall deep as it takes - which I assume is to find out what happened to Emmaline and get justice for her death.

> Next up we'll list the possible different connections:

1. Emmaline and Emeric are related - siblings or cousins, but somehow blood related.

2. Emmaline met Emeric after she ran away, which would explain why Gabriel lost track of her.

3. Emmaline and Emeric aren't blood related but knew eachother before her and Gabriel got married - friends, romantic partners.

I'm leaning towards Emeric being Emmaline's brother, although that opens up more questions. Emmaline's family surely couldn't have been a family involved with law enforcement if Emeric is indeed part of their family, otherwise the Angelini family would have steered clear, as both sides clash.

Potential theories for Emeric:

• Emeric started studying law enforcement after Emmaline married into the Angelini family.

• As he and Gabriel have briefly crossed paths, surely Gabriel would remember Emmaline's sibling/family, and he didn't show any indication of recognising him.

• Emeric could be a long lost brother/cousin who hid in the shadows and kept a close eye on Emmaline but didn't intervene - giving him a stronger incentive to join the Gendermerie and a way to develop a strong vendetta towards Gabriel and his family.

Personality

We don't know much about Emmaline's personality although Gabriel's mother, Eva, once described her as not suitable, soft and far too innocent, and that this much became clear to everyone.

When a fan asked if Violet could describe Emmaline's personality she responded with:

> "Introverted and easily overwhelmed but rather sweet. Life didn’t really give her a chance to bloom I don’t think."

We don't know anything about Emmaline's life before being married into the Angelini family or the type of person she was. Even though she could of had a gentle nature, she still didn't stand a chance with betraying a ruthless Mafia family such as the Angelinis.

In one instance which looked to be Mikey's birthday, Emmaline shouted at Gabriel, voicing how their son needed friends outside of the 'viper's nest'. With Gabriel's uncle, Raphael being present alongside other family members - Cassiel, Celeste and Roman Butcher, this could have been the split moment that alerted the Don and placed Emmaline on his radar, having her eliminated if she ever stepped out of line, and planning the young heir away would provoke that.

Gabriel and Emmaline's History

When we learn a little bit about Gabriel and Emmaline's history, Emmaline is seen crying and holding her hands over her ears when Nico approaches Gabriel, who says 'not here', indicating he knew how badly hearing about his family's business affected her so he tried to keep that side away from her.

There's a scene of them being bombarded by paparazzi over allegations. Emmaline was put directly in the spotlight and looked visibly uncomfortable. In a scene that implies a darker setting, Emmaline is seen sobbing opposite her husband, as his appearance is scuffed, looking like he'd been in an altercation, his fists looking exceptionally red.

As the years went by and Mikey was born, it appears Emmaline became more aware of the violence happening around her, and the expectations already in place for their son. Completely terrified, Emmaline attempted to run away with their son but was caught by Gabriel. He had shown Emmaline some level of safety by trying to keep her away from the business side, shielded her when he could and even though the life didn't suit her, he claims motherhood did. Thinking things could work, one complication led to another until she went behind his back. As he didn't want to lose Mikey, I can understand why he was enraged and they couldn't have a rational conversation.

Emmaline ended up running away, unable to handle the life anymore or the dark underworld her son was being pulled into. Any mother would be heartbroken when faced with an impossible situation. She managed to stick around for at least 5 years with Mikey being around 3 years old when she went missing. After upsetting and alerting her husband she probably thought she couldn't stay, and even though Gabriel would have been more colder and intimidating back then, I don't feel he would of had Emmaline punished and would have continued to keep their happy family ruse up.

Gabriel kept track of her, shifting blame onto the other families and reported her as kidnapped - even leading his own men in the wrong direction. It wasn't until his uncle found out that Gabriel was covering for Emmlaine that he intervened, leading to her being neutralised. We only have the hint of her wedding ring being stained with blood sent back to Gabriel by his uncle two months after he lost track of her. Also, once Gabriel becomes the Don, he wants Wiz gone even before the likes of The Doctor, which makes me think he had something to do with Emmaline being discovered.

Gabriel said he and Emmaline both loved Mikey more than eachother, but we also don't know much about their romantic history to delve further into those aspects. From the perspective we know, they married young with the duty of producing an heir to continue the Angelini bloodline and only had their son in common to bond over.

Symbolic Patterns

There's a few things that have been shown in the story which signify Emmaline. The first being the colour purple: she's often seen in a beautiful, off-the-shoulder gown, something something, or purple in her outfits. Mikey has been receiving pacakges which resemble his mother - the photograph of her smiling, art supplies and a purple lily attached to the packages.

We see a dream sequence of Mikey passing his mother a purple lily which she puts in her hair. His painting is of two white ducks (one large, one small) and a beautiful purple lily in the middle. Mikey must have known his mother loved this specific flower and colour, as it looks like he was recalling a past memory after his mother went missing and his father cradled him in his eyes.

The packages all contain personal things to Emmaline, and they don't appear to be out of malicious intent, more so to keep Emmaline's memory alive for Mikey.

> The person sending these packages knows:

1. The purple lily that resembles Emmaline

2. Mikey pursuing art and his mother buying supplies for him.

3. They have a photograph of Emmaline smiling brightly, a way of showing Mikey his mother in a positive light.

4. They know Mikey was at ENA temporarily.

My biggest guess is that Emeric is the person behind the pacakges. He's the only character we're aware about who has a mystery connection to Emmaline and seems to hold a deep vendetta towards Gabriel. He's been watching Mikey since being introduced and collecting information behind his superior's back. Emeric could get hold of information for locations and information others wouldn't be able to since he's law enforcement.

The second possibility is that it could be Emmaline, since her fate is still undetermined. We only have her wedding ring stained with blood to go by.

In the latest episode, Raphael announces his 'retirement', claiming he will hand the mantle of 'Don' over to Gabriel when he and Alina marry. As this revelation puts a bigger target on his back, Davina has a stricter deadline to free Gabriel so that he doesn't fall deeper into the life.

So far, we have only seen Raphael plan everything negatively where it concerns Gabriel, as a way to destory his life and keep him on a tight leash.

The celestial depictions are seriously amazing in this episode, and if you haven't already, definitely watch the video episode as it's really brings these panels to life in such a cool way. I love how Gabriel appears in the hellish underworld, his body wrapped in chains and him kneeling and surrendering on the floor. Davina watches before she reaches out to an angelic form of Gabriel, wanting to be his saviour. This time the chains are wrapped tightly around his angel wings with loose feathers falling away.

In the latest free episodes, we get our first hug from Gabirel and Davina and it's really sweet!

In the Masquerade scenes, I think Gabriel takes Davina off guard, by just walking up to her and wrapping her into into his arms. Their separation since Davina had to leave for Venice made the heart grow fonder, and we had Gabriel initiate their first hug. It's sweet and quickly interrupted by his uncle's announcement.

In the second set of panels back at the Annex, this time Davina initiates a hug, and Gabriel rests his head on her. This hug is more intimate as they aren't surrounded by his family or the masquerade guests anymore and are in private.

The Masquerade Arc has been running for a few weeks now, so this is a post to talk about the outfits! ✨️

> Nanny Gaiden Mini-series: "First Masquerade"

The first time we see a masquerade take place in the story is twelve years into the past, at Venice Carnival. After doing some research into the different types of masks, I stumbled across 'Carnival of Venice' which is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy, famous for glamorous costumes and masks. Venetian masks are made in Venice - the most popular one being a Colombina mask. It's really cool how Violet potentially got inspiration from this and how the art team implemented the costumes and masks in their own way.

- Gabriel: He wears a simple yet formal look - an iris blue outfit. The shape of his mask looks like wings at the sides with a pointed curved shape at the top middle of the mask. In one panel there's swirl patterns that could also be made out as wings. As Gabriel's surname is 'Angel' in Italian, this look suits him really well.

- Davina: She wears a red ball gown with a corset, long flowing skirt, loose sleeves hanging from the arms, and red evening gloves. A section of her hair is tied up into a neat dress bun, while the rest of her hair cascades down at the front and back. Her golden earrings are simple as the dress already compliments her appearance. Her mask is sparkly with swirl patterns. It's pointed at the top edges and curves in at the bottom. A feather sits at the side of her hair with two dark pink roses. Her eye and lip colour are a deep red. A necklace would have been a perfect finishing look so her neck shows off something glamour, though the look overall is stunning!

- Roman Butcher: We don't actually see him wearing his mask, although you see a glimpse of it in 105 (see the image containing Roman Butcher and Celeste). He's dressed up in a greyish blue suit, black dress shirt and purple tie. Very tall, wide and intimating!

- Celeste: She wears a dark grey suit with a dark reddish brown waistcoat and tie underneath. Her hair tie, nail polish and eye makeup are a deep red. Her mask is a cool design, it has a graident of dark red with orange. The left side looks like a mixture of a swan-style Venetian mask and raised wings. She looks absolutely gorgeous and this look compliments her well!

- Raphael: He wears a deep red suit jacket with a black dress shirt and light reddish brown waistcoast, plus a pair of black gloves covering his hands. His mask reminds me a bit of a domino style, he almost looks like a thief or someone deceitful. I'm surprised he didn't wear an olive coloured suit or mask, that would have been the next 'irk' for the fandom 🍸😂

- Jophiel: The thrilling new character of the season! She surprisingly wears an olive green colour code.. 🥹 A part of me wonders if she did this to purposely aggravate her father, as she sounds somewhat unhinged. Her design is simple but goes well. A dress with long sleeves and a frilled open collar. Her mask is sparkly and the shape frames her face well. She has a hair piece with two yellow roses with vines or leaves dangling down. Her lip colour is a dark pink and compliments her well.

- Eva: She wears a long mint/dark teal dress. It's open cut at her chest, shoulders and long sleeves. The collar of her dress reminds me of leaves or something along those lines, and the back of the arms has a cape attached to the arms that flows smoothly. Her mask is sparkly and has features of wings or petals below the bottom of it. Her golden earrings are long and match the outfit well.

- Nico: He wears a reddish brown-orange suit. His mask is very cool as he's wearing a Phantom style mask. The colour of the outfit suits his hair colour and bright golden yellow eyes.

- Val: She wears a dress that reminds me of a phoenix. The style has feathers at the top and a golden chain going around her wait, plus a necklace to add glamour to her neck. Her mask has sharp points and the top is shaped into what looks like a small flame. She has a feathered hair piece with two different colours, and her bright aquamarine teal eyes shine through the mask. Her eye makeup and lip colour are dark and compliment her look well.

- Alina: She wears a beautiful, light blue and mint frilled ball gown. Her mask is simple but goes well with the flower head band she's wearing. Her hair is styled into a long, sleek plait. She looks like a total princess! The style reminds me a bit of Marie Antoinette. The dark makeup really suits her bright outfit.

In the most recent free episode the mention of a new character is revealed! Uriel Angelini, known as 'The Original Angel', who ruled some time before Azrael.

I'm curious to know more about him. Could he have been Gabriel's grandfather and Azrael and Raphael's father, or could his history go further back than that?

I love how Violet made him the complete opposite of his family. According to Roman Butcher who seemed to admire Uriel's method, it sounds like he didn't host or attend fancy parties or live a life of luxury. He sounded like a stone cold ruffian who was involved in street crime or something.

He looks dishevelled, his hair unkempt and rugged clothing. The red glow in his eye is chilling, along with the wicked grin. I can only imagine how ruthless and deceitful he was.

I know this little caterpillar is digital and consumed the files Davina quickly transferred to a USB before the masquerade, but this little guy was so cute. I'll miss him. He did a fine job! 🐛🥺 Did anyone else think he was adorable?

Let's talk about how absolutely stunning Davina looks in her ball gown for the masquerade 🎭 This dress is the perfect fit for her and compliments all of the right places. Everything is red, a colour that suits Davina so much 😍

- I love design of the corset going around her waist

- The way the sleeves on her arms are loose

- This outfit goes so well with her evening gloves

- I love the design for the back of the dress and the golden detail and how it's an open back dress

- Her mask is pointed at the sides and glittery, complimenting her green eyes

- I love how her hair piece is a feather with two roses

- Her hairstyle is wowza! Since Davina has thick, long, flowing hair this is such a good choice. I love the dress bun at the back and how her hair is still cascading down.

- The only thing missing is that a necklace would have been beautiful with this look, since her neck is bare.

I love the flowers and petals falling around Gabriel and Davina, very art and the colouring is absolutely beautiful. This scene has already happened, but I love that you can see Gabriel's hand holding onto Davina in this image.
