San J via Devil's Slide- Water flowing

Hello hikers! Looking to see if anyone was done the devil's slide route recently and if water has been flowing anywhere.

Looking at Saturday to knock the first of the SoCal triple crown out.

Edit: Question has been answered but keep commenting as the Summer comes so people know!

Cuyamaca Via Milk Ranch Rd and Conejos Trail

Well the second highest peak in the county is absolutely worth it. Gorgeous views even with a bit of a paved road at the top, and a microwave tower lol.

Gentle grade from the trailhead that eventually starts to get pretty steep on the paces portion.

The beauty of this hike isn’t all at the top, the saddle portion of this hike provides a stunning almost alpine feeling meadow that needs to be seen to appreciate.

If you have a keen enough eye you can see some of the areas that felt the fury and force of the 2003 cedar fire, areas of new pine growth along with small oaklings :)

Absolutely recommend this one.

Much love and happy trails!

Cuyamaca Peak via Milk Ranch Road and Conejos Trail- 5/16

Planning to be at the trail head around 8am. A very rare non-solo adventure! Finally got my married buddy to get out of the city for a hike!

If you see a goofy dude with way too many patches and a MedPack on his backpack, say hi :D

Hooky Hike - Stonewall Peak (Cushi-pi)

Dipped out of work at 0930 yesterday, felt it was too nice of a day to be in an office. Ran out to the Cuyamaca's for a quick one.

Normally I avoid the main trails in the state park due to crowd levels, but with it being a Tuesday I gave Cushi-Pi a shot.

Very well taken care of and maintained trail, lots of good spots to peak out through the manzanita too see the valley.

The peak is maybe one of the most dramatic in the region, exposed granite with railing, views of both the Cuyamaca area and into the Borrego Desert.

Great for adventurous kids and families, wouldn't give it over a moderate difficulty. Completed in 1 hour 20 mins with a 15 min paused break at the peak.

Much love and happy trails!

New UFO Files

Daily Mail (https://www.dailymail.com/sciencetech/article-15802057/ufo-fbi-intelligence-orbs-military-base.html) had maybe the best breakdown of them along with the most compelling stuff; Apollo mission photos and more videos.

That said what do you think? Personally I thought the apollo photos were fascinating along with actual confirmation that buzz Aldrin was seeing stuff during the apollo 11 mission (landing on the moon)

Edit: just so everyone knows, I too wish we had the other files, I too hate this administration. Just trying to make lemonade out of the lemon of a country we have.

5/2

Well I knew the day would come, and no shame in sharing what happened.

Got to Plum Canyon and was on “trail” by 0730. Super fun scramble with some sketchy waterfall climbs most of the way. Eventually you start climbing out of the wash. However that is where I stopped. Just as I was starting to make my way towards the summit, the sun peaked out from behind the mountain and it was over. The canyon turned into an oven, and I just knew I had to turn around.

No stranger to Anza Borrego (grew up hiking it, worked it, love it) but never had a full stop-go back moment.

Had enough water to make it work if I really wanted to, but the peak will be there another day.

Hour later (0930) I was back at the car and decided to get a weather update. Garmin told me it was actually already +5F over the forecast via NWS.

Bottom line- trust your gut, know your limits and never feel shame for bailing.

Much love and happy trails

Going to be doing a morning summit run of Sentenac and Peak 3640 (North Pinyon) on Saturday. Aim to be done by 11am to beat the heat.

Peak 3640 is route finding with no defined trail fyi.

Hey there! Looking to see if maybe someone I met on a search and recovery hike, who is a resident of J Tree, uses this Sub.

The hike took place in the Granite Mountain Wilderness (AZ) on Friday 4/24- person I am looking to connect with is a volunteer with the JTRee SAR team and does web devl as a full time gig.

Super cool dude and wanted to connect to maybe hike JTree together in the future, initials on our search tracker (CalTopo) was MJK I believe.

Happy trails!
