Joshua Tree in June with a 4-year old?

I’m planning my first trip to Joshua tree with my wife and 4-year old child. But would June be too unbearably hot for a 4-year old?

Planning on staying in a nice Airbnb, but would it be too hot to actually spend time outdoors and in the park?

Joshua Tree in late September?

Hi! I'm planning a honeymoon in Joshua Tree for the last week of September. Will it be absolutely miserable (weather wise)? I posted on the travel thread, and almost everyone said a week in Joshua Tree is way too much time, even when planning excursions..

The almanac says the average temp is 85 that last week of September but maybe that isn't accurate. We've rented a spot with a pool and lots of shade... not planning on leaving much. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Girlfriends First Time Climbing Outdoors

Hey yall,

I want to take my girlfriend out climbing for the first time. She's climbed at the gym before, but hardest she could climb is a V1.

Is there any possible super easy top rope with bolts I could have her try in the park?

If you dont think so, what about boulders? I was thinking maybe dragon scales but getting up that high might be a bit too much for her.

First time visiting and have camping questions

I’ll be camping at Jumbo Rocks in a week and wanted some more info as I begin packing. I’m an experienced hiker but have only hiked in the northeast, this will be my first time in a desert.

My main questions are:

- better to tent camp or car camp?
- if I tent camp, would a light fleece bag do or should I pack something for under 40 degrees F?
- better to wear hiking boots or trail runners?

I’ll be packing tons of water, sun block, UV shirts, hat, etc of course, but any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Tattoo in JT

Hi all. I’m taking my very first trip to JT this month. I have a tradition of getting a new tattoo as a souvenir the first time I visit a place (unless it was really bad trip). Anyone have any recommendations for where to go? Specifically a place that is good with florals and/or fine lines.

Safe to let dogs roam freely in a backyard with rattlesnakes around?

I know there are snake repellents like Snake B Gone and also a vaccine (that doesn’t seem to be great). But overall, how many of y’all let your doggos roam freely in the front/backyard.

I usually let her roam freely and bring her in before dark. I know some folks never bring their dogs in because I hear them outside barking all night lol.

Lost hat in the Chasm of Doom

Took my stepdad through the chasm and of course lost my favorite hat. It got knocked off right before the big squeeze and we couldn’t find it. If anyone finds it, I’d love you forever (and I’ll send you a FedEx label to return it).

Joshua Tree recommendations for someone on crutches?

Hi! I recently broke my foot and have officially gone out of my mind staying home and working from home 😅

My husband and I decided to do a one-week staycation in Joshua Tree and found an amazing Airbnb with a hot tub, stargazing setup, games, etc. We absolutely love hiking normally like A LOT, but this trip will obviously unfortunately has to be a little different.

It’ll be our first time visiting Joshua Tree and we’d love recommendations for things we can still enjoy with crutches / a knee walker : something like scenic drives, very accessible viewpoints, easy walks with crutches, sunset spots, cafes, quirky stops, remote-work-friendly spots/restaurants/cafes, anything like that.

We’ll both still be working remotely during the week, so we’re totally fine scattering things to do and see across multiple days instead of packing everything into a weekend. We're planning to be there Saturday to Wednesday.

Would love any suggestions on how to make the most of Joshua Tree without being able to properly hike this time around! Thank you so much!

P.S. I know I could have asked ChatGPT but I have learned it the hard way to not let AI plan your itinerary 😁
