They will eventually add a whip character for my junk whip relic, I'm sure of it!

What aspects of Nightreign do you believe have aged poorly?

One that I can immediately think of is the class designs. Characters like Wylder, Duchess, and Ironeye feel like they have a function that is useful, can perform their function without much struggle from the game design, and their function is baked into their character and not relics.

Guardian was screwed over by DoN, it becomes much harder for him to be a tank, and if he wants to do reasonable damage he has to sacrifice vigor, all while being less flexible than Wylder and doing similar damage. He's one of the only characters where his function feels like it offers less to the team, and is very missable unfortunately. The few times I get matched with Guardian they are often first to go down or even 3 barred, and it feels very deflating. For what it's worth he is phenomenal in Non-DoN and appreciated for getting newer players through the game, while also allowing 3 barred teammates to continue participating to some capacity, I definitely liked having Guardian teammates when I was new.

Revenant is among the most poorly designed characters in the game, her supportive abilities work fine but this game really hates casters for some reason. Your options are to either ignore the terrible RNG experience or use a starter spell (99% of the time it's Beast Claw), and run that the entire expedition. It doesn't help that there are many incants in the game that are just filler garbage or still maintain aspects of PvP balancing that makes them really weird to use in this game. The fact that there's no Rise POI equivalent for Incants and no ability to reroll incants, makes Rev the most rigid and homogeneous classes in the game. It's immensely depressing that like 8/10 Revs are cheating on PC, and the outliers are the one that aren't.

I really like Scholar, but it's like they don't actually want you to play him as support or even use him to his fullest. Many of his most useful supportive abilities are needlessly reliant on relics, the game does not tell you shit about item-handling so you have to test it or find a spreadsheet which your teammates definitely will not have done, and they also won't know anything about consumables because the games tells you jack shit. Items confer makes some animations long as fuck because they didn't speed them up like everything else and is at odds with the faster pace of this game. Lastly, a huge chunk of the consumables you really have to go out of your way to acquire which is out of the question for your spam pinging Ironeye, or they are just sparse compared to what the merchant has. He desperately needed a item crafting system or a consumable merchant. The end result of all this is that you are often fighting against the game structure, your own teammates, and have to restrict yourself heavily to really do much.

Cool Center Castle skip/shortcut I don't see anyone else do

You have to "land" on the sloped part of the wall to be allowed to wall jump a second time, and to get full distance with your wall jump you want to move in the direction that's parallel to the wall before inputting the wall kick.

What are Neglected or Underexplored areas in Nightreign?

Yes this is Nightreign

I have been to the Albinauric Ruins in the southwest of the Mountaintop one time ever, which was forever ago and I didn't even clear it. There are so many locations in Nightreign that feel alien to me, mostly in Shifting Earths. I feel the only Shifting Earth that is able to be thoroughly explored is the Rotted Woods since it isn't designed like a dungeon and the formidables change location.

It's a little disappointing tbh, the other day I deranked and I had a game where I led D2 randoms to the southeast underground area in the Great Hollow, it's a very dense, lucrative area, and beautiful area honestly and I wish people were more willing to route there over just the optimal castle route. I used to think that place was a secret area when the DLC dropped because changing map layers on a shifting earth is something I never considered.

What are other neglected areas that I didn't mention? And is this a design flaw?

Has anyone here never played a souls game before?

Edit: To clarify I mean Fromsoft Souls games

If you haven’t, what about The Duskbloods do you find interesting? I’m curious because there are a good amount of people that jumped straight into Nightreign as their first souls game.

I dont expect there to be a lot before we even really see gameplay, or even before release. Since this is a PvP oriented title, I’d also imagine it’s not as easy to drag friends into like with a co-op title, but I’ll probably ask again after the network test and after release.

How Support Scholar can boost ally damage by beyond 5x (500%+) - A breakdown

This post is basically trying to answer the question: "What is the maximum boost to ally damage?" The two main ways to boost ally damage is through directly buffing their damage or by debuffing enemy damage negation. The video doesn't showcase the maximum damage increase as I can't give myself the ally buff and it's difficult to get every debuff and buff active at the same time on my own. Despite that though, Carian Slicer deals 203 damage to the Miranda Flower in this scenario then increases to 647 damage per swing (3.19x the damage) after setting up. [No frostbite related relics equipped]

The information that follows isn't something that's meant to be realistic to achieve, mainly because of RNG and execution, but it still is possible to pull this off, especially with teammate you can offload work onto as a lot of what's needed to boost damage isn't reliant on Scholar. Anyway LOTS of math and information on weapon/item effects ahead so you can skim through as needed or skip to the calculations portion.

Ally AP Buffs:

Analyse Ally Buff : +20% Phys AP and +15% Afn AP to allies for 30 seconds

- Commander's Standard - 20% AP up for 30 seconds

Overwrites Golden Vow and Last Rites AP Buffs

Overwrites Uplifting Aromatic AP up (Golden Vow does as well)

Tip: Think of it as a super version of Golden Vow, Rallying Standard is the strongest AP buff Scholar can apply to allies with a weapon/incantation.

Uplifting Aromatic - 10% Weapon AP up at Level 1, 20% at Level 2 for 40 seconds

It does not buff Sorceries or Incantations so Rallying Standard is preferred for casters

Exalted Flesh - 20% Phys up at Level 1, 30% Phys Up at Level 2, 20% Afn up at Level 3

Overwritten by Bloodboil Aromatic which can't be conferred to allies and doesn't buff physical sorceries or incants

Misc: Status ailment buffs- Kindred of Rot's Exultation, Night of the Wise, Lord of Blood's Exultation, Mogh's Sacred Spear passive and Attack power up when inflicting Blood Loss dormant power.

Those along with "AP up on status-afflicted enemy" or "Madness/Sleep in Vicinity" will not be considered in calculation because they can self-sustained and require conditions beyond your immediate control but if you see your teammates have any of these equipped you can intentionally boost their damage them. They are all still very strong passives after all.

Ally Buff Calculation:

Analyse buff (+20% Phys/+15% Afn) + Lvl.3 Exalted Flesh (+30% Phys/+20% Afn) + Rallying Standard (+20% AP)

Physical = 1.87x Damage

Affinity = 1.66x Damage

Dmg Neg Debuffs:

Winged Greathorn - -26% Enemy Dmg Negation (-10% Passive [Power of the Ancestral Spirit] for 20 seconds + -15% Skill [Soul Stifler] for 60 seconds

The Skill (L2) debuff overwrites Greyoll's Roar, Shriek of Milos, and Moon Sorcery debuffs

The Passive (R1) debuff does not get overwritten

Stacks with Knowledge Above All and Power of Dark Moon

Tip: Two stacks of Winged Greathorn has the greatest general debuff value out of any other combo

Scepter of the All-Knowing - -10% Magic & Holy dmg neg for 60 seconds

Dark Moon Greatsword - -15% Magic dmg neg for 20 seconds

Throwing Knives - -2% dmg neg per knife for 30 seconds (-20% at 10/Full stacks)

Level 3 Analyse debuff - -60% Dmg Neg for a single hit for 30 seconds

Frostbite - -15% Dmg Neg for 30 seconds

Calculations:

Winged Greathorn (Skill: -15% dmg neg + Passive: -10% dmg neg) + Knowledge Above All (-10% Magic & Holy dmg neg) + Power of Dark Moon (-15% Magic dmg neg) + Throwing Knives (-20% dmg neg at full stacks) + Lvl.3 Analyse Debuff (-60% dmg neg for one hit) + Frostbite (-15% dmg neg)

Total Debuff Calculations (w/o Frostbite):

Physical/General (w/o Analyse): 1.52x dmg (with): 2.4x dmg

Magic (w/o Analyse): 1.92x dmg (with): 3.1x dmg

Holy (w/o Analyse): 1.67x dmg (with): 2.7x dmg

Damage increase totals (w/ Frostbite):

Physical/General (w/o Analyse): 1.75x dmg (with): 2.8x dmg

Magic (w/o Analyse): 2.21x dmg (with): 3.53x dmg

Holy (w/o Analyse): 1.92x dmg (with): 3.07x dmg

Totals (w/o frost or analyse debuffs):

Physical: 1.87 (phys buff) * 1.52 (universal debuff) = 2.84x damage

Magic: 1.66 (afn buff) * 1.92 (magic debuff) = 3.19x damage

Holy: 1.66 * 1.67 = 2.77x damage

Fire/Lightning: 1.66 * 1.52 = 2.52x damage

Totals (w/FROST):

Physical: 2.84 * 1.15 (Frostbite) = 3.27x damage

Magic: 3.19 * 1.15 = 3.67x damage

Holy: 2.77 * 1.15 = 3.19x damage

Lightning: 2.52 * 1.15 = 2.9x damage

Totals (w/ANALYSE debuff):

Physical: 2.84 * 1.60 (Analyse) = 4.54x damage

Magic: 3.19 * 1.60 = 5.1x damage

Holy: 2.77 * 1.60 = 4.43x damage

Fire/Lightning: 2.52 * 1.60 = 4.03x damage

Totals (both):

Physical: 4.54 * 1.15 = 5.22x damage

Magic: 5.1 * 1.15 = 5.87x damage

Holy: 4.43 * 1.15 = 5.09x damage

Lightning: 4.03 * 1.15 = 4.63x damage

You have way better chances of achieving the crazier numbers in the Great Hollow since it's much easier to find legendaries, Flesh and Knives are plenty strong but a lot of this is good to know about. I checked over this like 4 times but if I screwed up the math or other info let me know.

Oh and I suppose if you have a Rev teammate that has the "Strengthen teammates when using ult" relic then you can add 25% to all damage multiplier values for the third person in that instance.

PSA: Ghiza's Wheel/Pizza Cutter Tech to dramatically boost DPS

I don't know if this is known already but I was messing around with the skill in the sparring grounds and found that if you wiggle the stick in a certain way the hit rate of the skill skyrockets.

Doing this will increase stamina consumption significantly but FP consumption of the skill remains unchanged.

Showing off the regular hit rate at the start then higher hit rate while wiggling the stick

Normally the skill is nerfed against larger enemies/bosses that put you into long hitstun when you hit them but the effect is far more dramatic against them. For the best results I find free aiming to be better than locking on (mainly on larger enemies). The maximum power of this is INSANE but as I said it will burn your stamina much quicker. This paired really well with bloodflame blade and will bleed proc like crazy.

Keep in mind this might be hard on your thumb, you can just flick left and right for a result that is still good.

This is really good, especially on Arcane Raider but good luck getting this weapon consistently.

Here's a bonus: Recovery Animation Cancel

Basically when you want to stop using the skill, unlock from the target and turn in a way that will cause force you character to turn when you lock on. Let go of the left stick then let go of the skill button/L2. You can of course roll during the skill but that wont let you regen stamina immediately.
