Jellyfin Setup, can't connect from other devices.

Recently swapped to cachyos and I'm trying to get jellyfin setup as it was back on my windows install more or less. I've gotten through the first time setup and configured my libraries with (afaik) properly mounted hdds inside a /media directory just for the drives. Accessing it via localhost:8096 works fine, accessing it via *[my ip]:*8096 works, but first prompts me with an "https only mode"(?) warning that I just ignored and it now seems to work fine.

I've tried my best to follow this guide for arch and I think I've done everything properly but the nginx stuff really lost me so I'm not 100%. Trying to connect via my phone gets a brief pause before failing, same on the windows pc on the lan. Putting in a junk ip by comparison has an immediate failure so clearly something is happening, I just cant figure out what.

Cheers in advance for any help. I'll add any further clarifications if I need to.

Edit:
Just remembered I also tried fiddling with the firewall settings assuming that was the cause, made rules allowing incoming+outgoing traffic for "Jellyfin(8096/TCP)". Dont know if this is affecting anything, I did this before I decided to look at guides because I had assumed it would work similar to windows, oops.

Also to be clear, I don't want this to be remotely accessible, maybe one day, but atm we have a sim card router and afaik that kinda prevents static ip stuff(idk mich about wan junk).

Taking the plunge!

Thanks to the help of this subreddit, I have begun my distrohopping adventure. I wanted to get an nvme to dedicate to my os so I could hop to my hearts content without worry, but when I found that nvmes are impacted by the tech crisis I found an old laptop ssd to use instead.

Starting with cachyos for a couple reasons. The biggest being that my partner has also expressed interest in it and if I can get it running nice, then I might be able to make her switch too haha. Also seeing that framework is a sponsor gives me a bit of faith in it as it is to my understanding a fairly young distro.

I have a bit of a grocery list of other isos already downloaded and primed for hopping on one of my hdds. Including the likes of kubuntu, zorin, fedora, and more. Actively looking forward to the journey. Cheers for y'alls help frfr!

Looking to finally make the switch from windows, help picking the right distro.

I've finally decided that continuing to put up with windows isn't in my best interests and I want to make the swap permanently on my main machine.

I'm not a complete beginner to linux. I've installed ubuntu a few times, particularly on older laptops to get more life out of them, but in those contexts I've almost always had weird hardware incompatability issues with wifi or bluetooth chips or some other weird bit of perripheral type nonsense simply not wanting to work.

I hope this won't be an issue on my desktop, built it myself, amd cpu and gpu, which I've heard plays nice with linux.

Going forwards however, I am not sure if I want to stick with ubuntu. I've always heard that it's generally the easiest and most broadly compatable with software, but more recently I've heard the odd complaint including some fuss about telemetry, which I think I would like to avoid. There's also apparently gen AI features being implemented in some distros which I would like to avoid, so knowing if a given distro has made a commitment against implementing such features would be a huge positive to me.

I have heard people say good things about fedora/red hat and debian as alternatives. Debian at least, I believe, is also very broadly compatable with alot of software. Granted, I am aware and willing to switch to foss programs for just about everything I do, maybe running a vm for the odd nichee application I find that only has an .exe.

I have heard of some distros which are renowned for their customisability and have large libraries of community made presets. This does spark some interest in me, but I cant say I'm rearing to make the change to arch just yet. Just a passing thing that if any particular distro aligns with my other requirements also happens to have very strong customisation, I would be quite happy.

Gaming is pretty important to me too, so perhaps bazite or another distro built on steamos might be the right go? I've used my partners steam deck a little bit and I do love how it controls. Granted, I wouldn't be able to get that experience with the trackpads as the new controller isn't even available to purchase in my country. Or maybe it would be the right idea to hold out til valve releases a first party steamos distro (which I think is planned but has yet to happen?).

I kinda know I dont want mint, I've used it before and it just rubbed me wrong and I had more hardware/software incompatability issues with it than ubuntu. Although accepting something with more problems is a compromise I may make.

Lastly, I would like any tips and tricks you have used / know of to make the transition as painless as possible. I have more or less accepted the fact that I will need to learn linux console commands for an awful lot of things as much as I may not want to and that will just be a fact of me using linux. I already know plenty of foss programs that I use somewhat regularly and will continue to use on linux. Any additional bits and pieces I might want to improve privacy or some best practices to follow to make sure I dont unintentionally make myself more vulnerable than I already was are welcome.

I intend to rip the bandaid off and full send linux, no dualbooting, maybee a vm if/when I find something I dont yet know a foss alternative for.

Cheers in advance!

2006 Mazda 5/Premacy can I cover external holes hidden by bumper?

We live rural and have mouse/rat problems somewhat often. Taking apart our bumper, I found these vent looking things with loose rubber flaps. I don't know what they are or what they're for, but my guess is that they ensure the air pressure inside the cabin is the same as the air pressure outside.

Now I'm reasonably sure this was the point of ingress for the mouse that got into our car and ate up a bunch of the plastics a while back as I found some similar mouse scratch damage around here.

So what I'm wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't add some kind of metal grate overtop to prevent mice in the future. It'd be super cool if such a product already existed, but I am somewhat doubtful. I expect I will have to make a destructive mod to add such a grate, which is a shame, but the mouse was a huge headache for weeks and absolutely destroyed the interior plastics.

I just don't know what these flaps are actually doing so I wanted to ask beforehand. Cheers in advance!

Hair Particle Object Render Scale Outlier?

Using a hair particle system to instance an object (lightbulb) on select verticies of underlying mesh. I've done this a number of times before for a variety of different applications but this time for some unknown reason one of the instanced meshes is drastically smaller than the rest?

Scale randomness isn't turned on and I've done nothing different this time around.

The only vertex group is to control the density to make the hair particles appear where I want them to, I did sanity check that the vertex group had that particular vertex at 1.0 weight just in case that was the cause, but no luck.

The original objects scale has been applied also to sanity check.

Idk if it's necessarily relevant, but I have also been having crazy problems with the subdivision surface modifier. It absolutely shat the bed on a flat plane that I applied it to to minimize texture distortion, basically every time I tabbed in and out of the object it was a different kind of messed up. So maybe I'm just having some kind of hardware incompatibility and this is also a sign of that? But I haven't changed anything about my hardware in a long while and have never had any issues doing any of these things before.

Cheers in advance.

Retiring our old car, there was a box in the dashboard hidden where the cabin air filter was supposed to be. I fogure it's some kind of speaker amplifier maybe? I can only find a japanese auction for a similar unit when searching online and the cars speakers are stock mazda speakers so I wouldnt think it would need an amp for them.

The images I translated on my phone mention video, which throws me off as our old car doesn't have an entertainment system at all. I'm wondering if this is something we should bother salvagibg for our new car as it is the same model, just a couple years newer.

Cheers in advance.
