This FCC ID requirement just came in...gonna be a pain for many including myself.
UPDATE: According to Ai
Yes, used items are exempt from the new FCC ID display requirement for online marketplaces like eBay.
The Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) new rules, which took effect on October 13, 2026, specifically exempt listings for used devices from the mandate to display a valid FCC ID at the online point of sale. This exemption applies regardless of whether the marketplace fulfills the listing or if it is a third-party seller.
Key details regarding the exemption and new rules include:
- Exempt Categories: Listings published before October 13, 2026, and never amended, as well as used devices, do not require an FCC ID to be displayed.
- Compliance Dates:
- March 1, 2027: Marketplaces that have physical access to or title over a device (e.g., eBay-managed listings) must display a verified FCC ID.
- June 1, 2027: Marketplaces hosting third-party listings without touching the device must display a verified FCC ID and require seller certification.
- Scope: The requirement applies to new equipment authorization for devices containing logic-bearing hardware components from entities on the FCC’s Covered List (e.g., certain Chinese manufacturers), but the display mandate explicitly excludes used goods and small sellers below the INFORM Consumers Act threshold.
Sellers of new electronic equipment on eBay should prepare for these compliance deadlines, but listings for used electronics remain unaffected by the new display mandate.
ORIGINAL :
We’re contacting you because you offer radiofrequency (RF) devices to buyers in the US that require an FCC ID.
Starting October 13, 2026, you’ll need to provide a valid FCC ID for applicable listings, or your listings will be hidden from buyers. FCC rules state that unauthorized radiofrequency devices cannot be offered for sale in the US.
What is an FCC ID?
An FCC ID is a unique identifier assigned to a radiofrequency device that has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). You can usually find it on the product label, packaging, user manual, in the device settings under sections such as Legal or Regulatory, or in documentation provided by the manufacturer. You may also find the FCC ID when you look up your device online.
Examples of devices that may require an FCC ID include mobile phones, tablets, devices with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular connectivity, and certain radio and remote control devices.
If you’re not sure whether your product is FCC-authorized or requires an FCC ID, check with the manufacturer or supplier.

What you need to do
To help you provide this information and comply with the FCC requirement, we’ve added an FCC ID field for applicable listings. Here’s what you need to do:
- If you have an existing listing or are creating or revising a listing, go to Item specifics, expand Optional fields, and enter the item’s FCC ID.
- Make sure the FCC ID you provide applies to the exact product and model you’re listing.
- Make sure you provide the brand name for the item you are listing.
If you use a third-party provider or API to create or manage your listings, check with your provider to make sure they support the FCC ID field and will send this information to eBay. You may need to update your integration or listing process to provide the FCC ID for applicable listings.
