Pensive Mood

Does anyone else experience this?

Just packed up and about the leave site after a few days camping.

We usually camp a few times each year, and every time, whether the trip was good or bad (current heatwave is brutal!) I get a feeling that is hard to distill - maybe a touch of sadness? Hard to explain.

The things I reflect on/think about whilst packing up:

• Memories made exploring the local area

• Landmarks that become familiar guiding you back to the site

• Pleasant interactions with other campers and getting a snapshot into their lives, whether a burgeoning young family or folks enjoying their retirement

These are just some of the things that occupy my thoughts on the journey home and back to the day-to-day. Days afterwards I am left feeling wistful and already thinking about the next trip.

Timing Sensor

Had a Scalextric set when I was younger but that is the extent of my experience. A project at work means that I get to mess around with Scalextric again😁

I'm sharing this in the hope it may prove useful - these A3144E units are Hall effect sensors and fit nicely within the underside of the standard Scalextric track (track section with sensor installed will need to be raised a few mm though).

They are sensitive enough to be triggered through the plastic track by a car with a standard 'magnatraction' magnet.

Really impressed for around £5 - they illuminate too to indicate triggering which is a nice touch.

I am using a Raspberry Pi to read the on/off signals and a simple bit of code to record lap times - ultimate aim is to have a graphical leaderboard and database for historical lap times.

Surface Rust Through Paint + Steerer Tube

2009 Kona Paddy Wagon. My first proper bike and now only the frame and forks remain. I'm thinking of building it back up again.

I haven't been able to part with it over the years and the storage of the F+F hasn't been great(damp shed(s)).

I'm fairly confident that the steel is sound and it is just surface rust bubbling through the paint. Cosmetically I am not bothered, just wondering what if anything I should do to the rust patches?

Steerer Tube - just fine abrasive required here right?

Thanks in advance.
