Replacement tent poles

Where’s the best place to buy replacement fibreglass tent poles. Is there a standard range of lengths all manufacturers use? Mine is difficult to measure due it being snapped, but it’s 4.8meters (I believe) with a 10mm radius.

Tentbox

We had everything delivered by Wednesday and Friday we stayed in Brighton right by the sea for a couple of days.

It would be great to know if anyone has a monitor powered by a power bank please and also mirrors from a mobile.

Tell me you have a problem without telling me you have a problem

We only went in to just have a look around 😂

Best camping beds for family camping trips

Hi just after some advice I'm used to camping with a limit to weight and size due to what I can carry and what space I have. But this is the opposite I'm not bothered about weight or size. Does anyone have any recommendations for comfortable beds for family camping trips. I'm thinking the cot type might be best. Any information or advice would be great.

Camping on rainy days

What do you do when you really want to go camping and explore an area but the forecast is a mixed bag of rain and sun like it is next week? Do you still go or is it miserable?

I started camping seriously this year and it's been dry so I don't really know what it's like to camp on a rainy day apart from one morning when we were packing up. I have a 9 year old daughter too.

Thank you 😊

Recommendations for secluded campsite in Scotland (with private nooks)

I'm looking for recommendations for campgrounds in Scotland with private nooks (perhaps separating campers with hedges or similar). We have a small van, but don't require an electric hook up (though willing to pay for it). Ideally looking for a nice wee place to visit with our dog who can be a bit reactive to passers by (especially dogs). Places like these are quite common in other countries (canada forest parks, NZ etc), but I haven't seen similar in Scotland.

Wild camping ish

First time campers as a family (we both went camping with our own families when we was little) but lovely little fire in Suffolk where it feels like wild camping in the woods without the fear of camping in the incorrect place or being told to move on. Wish we stayed for longer but a nice big 6 man tent for the 3 of us was more than enough and so roomy! Definitely making the most of it next year!

EDIT: we don’t use the fire - the campsite provided the fire pit but of course we got the warning so we didn’t use it. 😊

Drying time polycotton lite 200gsm vs standard polycotton 285gsm

Hi all,

I’m planning to upgrade my 5 man Vango tunnel tent which I have had for 10 years. We’re a family of 4 but likely to be a family of 5 on the near future. We do approximately 5-6 mainly weekend trips in the late Spring/ Summer each year. The longest we have done is 2 weeks in France.

I’m fairly sold on polycotton, particularly after seeing two friend’s Boutique Camping star tents this weekend. Both had the poly cotton lite which seemed pretty strong. However, I can’t help but be drawn to the heavier 285gsm polycotton as I want something that we can use for as long as possible. I haven’t seen this in person though.

I’m keen to hear from anyone who has experience with polycotton how it takes to dry, particularly if they have experience with thicker polycotton. Also, is there any difference in warmth?

The difference in weight between the two is 4kg. Given that we will be car camping I’m not too fussed by this. The drying time is my main concern.

Thanks in advance.

Spence time camping solo with the dog

Second time with the roof tent too, so far so good!

Edit: noticed the typo in the heading, I'm a bit drunk. Meant to say "second time"

Wildfire risk and cooking

Like everyone we got our nuke-alert on the phones this evening. Obviously we all need to avoid open flames etc. However...Just wondering what everyone is planning on doing for food if they're camping this week? Cold snacks and pub for dinner?

Sleeping solution for around £300

Me and my wife are relatively new to camping, tried once with a higear air mattress which deflates during the night.

We’re exclusively going to be car camping and have a pretty big car so don’t need to worry about space - the only issue I have is I have a bit of a bad back and sleeping badly can flare my sciatica - I just need something that’s firm but not hard and is going to accommodate both me and my wife (we’re both back sleepers) without deflating

Everybody seems to recommend the megamat but considering we only camp a couple times a year we just can’t justify £500 for a sleeping mat

Any suggestions? Ny heads been falling off with the seemingly endless amount of choice and possible combinations!

Sleeping bag recs for warmth and lasting

Hey folks, I’m looking for a new sleeping bag and hoping for recommendations. I’m a fairly seasoned camper but the cold is always my issue, I often camp in shoulder seasons and I’m nearly always cold at night. I don’t usually trek however ideally I’d like it light enough to trek if I want to to save buying more stuff.

I don’t mind forking out for a good sleeping bag providing it will last me and it is what I want.

I’m looking at the Rab neutrino as I saw a review saying it’s a good one and one sleeping bag. It is pricey but if it lasts for 20-30years I figure it’s a good investment.

Other options I’ve seen are the OEX leviathan 900 and skyehigh 700 which are half the price of the rab.

For context I’m a 6ft woman, usually camping in UK

Any suggestions?

Really want to go camping but multiple barriers to do so.

Edit - wow thanks for all the info! This is all really helpful, I think we'll probably try a yurt or other glamping first before investing in a massive tent etc.

Me and my daughters would love to go camping, however, my partner doesn't like camping as he says he can't sleep in tents as he's always uncomfortable and too hot. I have a chronic illness that means I'm low on energy and dealing with pain and fatigue. I miss my days of being able to camp with no issues (pre kids) and haven't been camping (other than once at a festival) for 10 years.

What sort of things could we do or look for to enable us to go camping without flaring my illness and that might help my partner be able to sleep? Are there any campsites with cafes/kitchen facilities? Not having to worry about food as much would really help I think. Easy access loos would be great as well.

Surrey / Kent campsite recommendations

Hey! A group of us (early 30yo) are looking for a campsite in Surrey / Kent-ish (basically anywhere <1.5hr drive from South London) for a weekend in September.

We’re looking for somewhere that’s more field camping / group weekend rather than a family campsite.

Must-haves:
- A big area where a group can camp together
Somewhere we don’t have to spend the whole weekend whispering 😅 (happy to be respectful, but would like a bit of freedom)
- Good hikes/walks nearby
- A decent pub (or two) within walking distance

Bonus points for:
- A river or lake where we could swim / kayak / paddleboard

Any recommendations from people who’ve stayed somewhere would be massively appreciated!

thanks!

Advice for newbies (rain&food)

We’re (2 adults, 6yr old, 3yr old) due to go camping next Friday (21/08) and it’s looking likely to rain!
Any advice seasoned campers wish they knew before camping in the rain? This is only our second time camping.

Food, what are you all cooking? We’re gone for 7 days so really need some ideas. We’re cooking on the cadac pro 2 cook 2

How to keep kids warm at night?

Camping in the Peak District this weekend and the night time temps are dropping to single figures and where we are camping I expect will be even cooler still.

What are the best tips to keep them warm?

Blanket under the air bed
Airbed
Sleeping bag
Blanket on top
PJs
Hat

Is that it?

As a child how did you view going out into nature and camping?

My daughter (9 years old) complains most of the time when we go outdoors and walk through woodlands for example or I suggest going camping somewhere. She warms up and enjoys it when she's there after a while but it's still a struggle to get her out of the house and outdoors in nature.

Were any of you reluctant to go out into nature or camping as children and now as adults you're glad you did those things during your childhood, or do you feel like it was a chore of sorts and wish you'd been left to relax at home?

We spend on average a couple of hours for 4 to 5 days a week in nature on my days off.

Thank you 😊

Pensive Mood

Does anyone else experience this?

Just packed up and about the leave site after a few days camping.

We usually camp a few times each year, and every time, whether the trip was good or bad (current heatwave is brutal!) I get a feeling that is hard to distill - maybe a touch of sadness? Hard to explain.

The things I reflect on/think about whilst packing up:

• Memories made exploring the local area

• Landmarks that become familiar guiding you back to the site

• Pleasant interactions with other campers and getting a snapshot into their lives, whether a burgeoning young family or folks enjoying their retirement

These are just some of the things that occupy my thoughts on the journey home and back to the day-to-day. Days afterwards I am left feeling wistful and already thinking about the next trip.

Looking for green grass

This might come off as a dumb question, but where in England can I go camping right now where the grass might be green? I know it's been a historic drought all summer but the yellow grass everywhere around me is bumming me out. Grateful for any help! Thank you

Hard ground in the heatwave -how are you managing? Any tips?

Hiya, next week we’re off to Dorset camping right on the southwest coastal path.

We haven’t been camping in a couple of years, so yesterday I did some due diligence and took our bell tent to our local park to put it up and ensure all the gubbins and bits and bobs were present and correct.

It was a bugger to get pegs into the ground! I have a limited number of rock pegs and even those were a nightmare to a) get pegged in and b) were so difficult to get out, I had to abandon some!

How is everyone else managing? Any tips for success?
