what i want to do most after work..

i live alone,so after work i dont have much going on. most days, i get home have a spindrift or a topo choco hard seltzer, and put on a movie. i keep rewatching arrival lately. its slow, so it doesnt wind me up, but it still keeps my attention

Then I make something easy. eggs, a sandwich, chicken cutlets, whatever takes the least effort. By then I’m ready to sleep

I’m still not used to sleeping during the day. Even when I’m tired, my body knows it’s daytime. I got nicetown blackout curtains and loop earplugs, and they help.

Sometimes I turn my pococo star projector on low too, just to make the room feel more like night. I lie there looking at the ceiling for a bit, and most times I drift off.I’m not fully used to this schedule yet, but having a small after-work routine makes it feel less weird.

I’d like to have a dog someday. Coming home, eating something simple, then taking a dog out for a walk when the sun is already up sounds nice

what do you like doing after work? do you go straight to sleep, or stay up for a bit and pretend youre having a normal morning?

Forgot the patio was supposed to be this color

finally got around to cleaningthe patio after putting it off for most of the summer.

I thought it was just getting darker with age,but it was mostly dirt, pollen, leaf stains, and whatever gets tracked in from the yard.

Moved the furniture off,did a slow pass, and the color difference was way more satisfying than I expected. Still have a couple corners to finish, but this was a nice little summer cleanup job.

salty coastal rail rotted yet another hose reel. dropped stupid money on afull stainless setup this time

livjng near the coast means the salt humidity basically turns all my backyard tools into garbage within a season or two

my dad is getting up there in age too and he was constantly wrestling with our old big-box store plastic reel because it had zero tracking and everything would just bunch up and jam inside the casing.

finally got fed up with buying throwaway junk and decided to just buy something heavy-duty.

ended up coughing up like $280 for tools stainless wall reel, and paired it with a dramm valve and a brass nozzle. it winds the line pretty evenly so far so my dad doesn't have to fight it anymore, but man, nearly $300 for a hose reel still hurts my soul to think about lol

for anyone else dealing with severe coastal rust, do these full stainless setups actually hold up long term? do i need to spray marine grease on the swivels before winter hits to make this thing last?

I could stay alone for a month and feel fine

When I have time off, I realize I could stay home alone for weeks and be completely fine with it

Not in a sad way, thereve been times when my parents are concerned lol.. A few friends I know get restless if they don’t go out, but I feel calm in my own space. I usually only leave for groceries, walking my dog, or things I can’t do at home.

Most of the time, I enjoy being alone. During the day I read for a while. Lately I’ve been into The Comfort Book by Matt Haig, or I’ll watch a movie if I don’t feel like reading. I still scroll a bit.

I’m not pretending I live some perfect offline life. I the afternoon I work out at home with my mat and dumbbells, then shower and make something easy to eat.

At night I play quiet music on my speaker, usually Bon Iver, Ólafur Arnalds, or a Spotify piano playlist. Then I turn on my star projector, read a few pages on my Kindle, and fall asleep in a quiet room.

I know some people would feel trapped living like this, but to me it feels peaceful. I don’t hate people. I just don’t need constant interaction to feel okay. Just wanted to share with people who get it.

Got laid off two months ago, spent a week travelling in Korea

So yeah I got laid off around 2 months ago and was in a pretty weird place. Not something dramatic but I felt like I was stuck and started doubting myself for why would any new company even want me.

Eventually I figured I probably needed to get out of my normal routine for a bit, so I went to Korea for a week, I spent the first two days in Seoul mostly walking around, eating, and trying to slow down a little. After that I flew to Jeju, rented a car, and drove around the island for three or four days. This was such a bliss after staying indoors bedrotting for over a month.

I didn’t plan the Jeju part too tightly. Mostly just followed the coast and stopped whenever a place looked worth stopping for. These photos are all from Jeju. It was foggy around Seongsan, windy by the water, and that kind of weather felt right for where my head was at.

I also spent a while around Woljeong, mostly doing nothing except looking at the ocean, taking photos, and eating random snacks.

I only brought my iPhone 17 and a telesin selfiestick on this trip. Ended up taking a lot along the way: coastal roads, random pullouts, cvs dinners(oh how much I loved these cvs😭), windy viewpoints, and a few places I only stopped at because they looked nice from the road.

Traveling alone, having a selfiestick was useful, as someone who gets really nervous and awkward when someone else especially a stranger takes my pic. Also otherwise my camera roll would’ve been all scenery and almost no photos of me.

The trip didn’t really fix anything. I still had to come back and deal with job hunting. But for a few days in Jeju, driving around the island made my head feel a little quieter.

I’m planning to go to Shanxi and Chongqing in China next week, so I guess I’m slowly trying to get myself moving again.
