I need guidance 2005 g35 overheating
have a 2005 Infiniti G35 that is overheating. I already know that the driver-side radiator fan is not working. When I turn the heat on full blast and drive on the highway, the temperature stays around normal and does not overheat. However, when I’m driving locally, especially in traffic or when stopped at red lights, the temperature rises quickly and starts to overheat.
I also have these codes:
- P1217 – Engine Over Temperature
- P1272 – A/F Sensor 1 Bank 1
- P0300 – Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
I also noticed an oil leak on the driver side around the valve cover area. The passenger side is completely dry and spotless. I’m not sure if the oil leak could have been caused or made worse by the overheating, or if it is a separate issue.
Another thing I noticed is that when I checked the radiator, there was little to no coolant visible in the radiator, even though the coolant reservoir has stayed at the MAX level for the past day or two. Even after driving, the reservoir still appears to stay at MAX, so I don’t think the system is pulling coolant from the reservoir into the radiator.
Could the bad radiator fan be the main reason it overheats in traffic? Could the radiator being low while the reservoir stays full indicate a problem with the radiator cap, air in the cooling system, thermostat, water pump, or another issue? I’m also wondering if the overheating could be related to the P0300 misfire or the oil leak.
What should I check first?
