Friends as a freshman

Hiii I’m class of 2030 and I know absolutely no one going to/at Fordham 😫 I did the Fordham 2030 thing on Instagram and added a lot of people on insta but have only had small talk with a few people. Honestly I’m not a huge texter, I only text my very close friends and family on my phone. Also for context I am an out of state student and can’t attend an in person orientations. I am very talkative and love to meet new people so at first I wasn’t really nervous but now that school is slowly approaching I’m realizing that I will be moving somewhere where I know literally no one all on my own…. I was wonder what advice anyone has!!! I’m excited for my roommate assignment and I hopefully will become friends with them before moving and I know that once I get to Fordham I won’t really have an issue talking to people. I was wondering if people in/were in my situation recommend just waiting to meet people there or to try and make friends now online?? Thanks!!

I can’t accept anyone finding me attractive

Hi, I’ve never shared how I feel with anyone. for context I’m an 18 year old girl about to go into college. I feel so ugly. When I was growing up I was always chubby and a little awkward looking I guess, basically I wasn’t a pretty preteen. I always felt ugly compared to the other girls around me. Around junior year I started to really figure out the clothes, aesthetics, hair, etc. I liked and I felt I looked good in. But I never really feel pretty. I’m over weight, i hate almost every picture I see of me, like I look in the reflection and feel fine with how I look but I see myself in a photo (candid or posing) and I just think I’m so ugly. Even if I feel good about my appearance for a moment if I see a photo of me I immediately hate and criticize how I look in my head. Objectively speaking for reference I think I’m average. I’m not drop dead gorgeous but I’m not hideous. I’ve never dated anyone, or tried to approach a boy because I genuinely cannot fathom a guy finding me attractive. People tell me I’m pretty all the time. I’m not saying this to “brag” I guess but I get compliments at work from guest, coworkers, friends, family, strangers, etc. and when I get a compliment or told I’m pretty I genuinely can’t believe them. I just can’t fathom anyone finding me physically desirable. I’m not sharing this to get pity, sympathy, or comments like “omggg no girl I’m sure you’re so pretty” I’m just genuinely curious if anyone can relate to my struggles and how people possible can cope with this. Thanks.

Should I ask to be supervisor after being recommended but hearing nothing?

Hiiiii please help!!!! I’m looking for some advice because I’m not sure if I’m overthinking this or if I should advocate for myself.

I’m 18, and I’ve worked at a hotel pool deck for two summers. About a month ago, one of my managers pulled me aside and asked if I’d be interested in becoming a supervisor. He said he thought I’d be a great fit and wanted to recommend me. I said yes because it came with more responsibility and higher pay, and I felt like I was already doing many of those duties.

After that conversation, I never heard anything else. I didn’t follow up because this is my first job, and I didn’t want to come across as pushy or entitled.
A little while later, another employee (who had only been working there for about a month) was promoted to supervisor. She’s very nice and good with guests, so this isn’t meant to criticize her, but I was definitely disappointed. I think she got it because the she was the only one who got a compliment from the VP for her customer service skills.

The reason I’m conflicted is because I already perform a lot of supervisor type responsibilities. I train every new employee, lead and run our guest activities, help assign closing tasks, answer questions from coworkers throughout the day, and people often come to me when they’re unsure what to do. Recently, two new employees started, and I ended up training both of them even though the supervisor was working that morning. The new girls were even joking around and calling me boss and supervisor because that’s essentially what I am to my direct co workers. I don’t say any of this to sound arrogant I like to taking on leadership responsibilities. I just feel like I’m already doing much of the work without the title or pay.
I’m considering talking to one of the higher-level managers and asking about the supervisor position.
I wouldn’t complain about the person who got promoted or say I deserved it more. Im just debating on explaining that I was previously told I was being recommended, that I’m interested in leadership opportunities, and ask if I was ever considered/further updated I guess.

The only thing holding me back is that I’m leaving for college in about six weeks. My mom thinks I shouldn’t bring it up because I’ll be gone soon anyway. Would you say something if you were in my position, or would you just let it go?

Hiii! I’m an incoming Fordham Class of 2030 student and I’m trying to plan ahead for moving in this summer. I live in the South, so the drive is about 12 hours, and instead of making my family do that, we’re planning to fly.
Most of what I’m bringing from home will be essentials I can fit into a few checked bags (clothes, meds, toiletries, small decor, etc.). Our current plan is to arrive a day early and buy anything we couldn’t bring, but I’m a little worried that common dorm items (like mattress toppers for example) might be sold out with so many students moving in around the same time.
As a backup plan, I was thinking about ordering things from Amazon, but I’m not totally sure how Amazon lockers work at Fordham or if they’re available for incoming students.
If anyone has experience with this or just general advice for moving in from farish away by plane I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
