HELP!!! Accidentally sent ₹17,000 to an Uber driver via UPI by mistake (Bengaluru) – How do I get it back?
Hey everyone, I am incredibly stressed out right now.
I sent the money to a different UPI id than the one I was intending to, I got confused because both of them had the same name. I know it’s my fault. I took this Uber ride in Bangalore, I have the drivers name, licence plate and UPI ID.
Because it has been over 30 days since the trip, Uber has completely blocked the option to call or message the driver through the app due to their privacy policies. Level 1 customer support has been no help. I am a college student, and losing this amount of money is a massive blow to me.
I have also called my bank and filed a complaint but they mentioned that it was going to take atleast 35 days.
I have already escalated this to the Uber India Grievance Officer today, but I wanted to ask this community:
Has anyone successfully recovered money sent to a driver via UPI after the 30-day window?
Can my bank or the UPI app (GPay/PhonePe/Paytm) forcefully reverse the transaction if I file a dispute, or am I entirely dependent on the driver being honest and picking up Uber’s calls?
Since I have the vehicle registration number, is there any legal or official way to trace the driver's contact info safely to request the money back?
Any advice, legal steps, or bank dispute tips would mean the world to me right now. Thank you so much.
I also messaged the driver on gpay but he is not responding.
