Building an Anti-Siege Fortress City (WIP) and Some Thoughts on QoL for the Building Mode
Started an anti-siege coastal city inspired by Cartagena, Campeche, and Habana. The idea was to make a Caribbean settlement that actually feels defensible against pirates, privateers, and bucanerer instead of just being decorative wooden houses or beautiful but military "impractical" role-playing towns.
After looking at maps/islands, I picked a medium-sized island with high mountains for observation forts/lighthouses and enough deep water for proper docks. Trying to make it feel like a real fortified colonial port city.
Some building/QoL feedback after working on this project:
- More stone/wood shapes would help snapping a lot, the not snapping mode sometimes takes very long to create good looking patches
- Rough stone/cobblestone floors would fit military/defense towns better than marble
- Stone foundation placement is very time consuming on uneven terrain
- More ceiling/stair variations
- Y-axis rotation and more degrees of rotation would help massively
- Smaller filler pieces or a "smart filler mode" to cover unavoidable gaps
- More military/plank-style structures and angled stairs
- Saveable templates/prefabs for stairs, walls, or house designs would be amazing instead of rebuilding block-by-block every time
- Temporary scaffolding/paths for reaching unfinished areas or a mode like "drone mode" that allow you to reach some areas easier
- Ability to remove natural obstacles/resources like stumps, rocks, orchids, etc.
- A way to "connect" Bonfires, increase the spade dig/raise/flatten area will make the use of some mods unnecesary.
Economy/material balance feels fine honestly. With a fully upgraded frigate and vendors, Piastres become pretty easy to farm even against groups of lvl15 warships/interceptors/freighters.
First stage almost finied (walling the city), I generated a base idea of the floorplan in ChatGPT, and in the image where my player is on a small wodden part of the wall I wish to put a iron gate to the docks but sadly currently there is no metal gate block. Thought so far?
