Giving serious thought to an older vehicle as a daily
Looking for advice about making an older vehicle a daily driver. I have a perfectly running vehicle right now but I am doing research for when the time comes
I have saved like crazy and I’m hoping to have $40k as a budget. I was set on a Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, or older Lexus GX 460. They are all within that price range give or take. But I recently fell in love with the old gen 2 Chevy Blazers. A family member made strong arguments that I should get one OVER the other vehicles on my list. This would not be a project vehicle, this would need to be a reliable daily driver. My commute to work is short (around 30 miles a day, mostly highway) so I’m willing to take the bullet on the terrible mpg, but is it a bad idea to put all of my vehicle money into a truck that is older than I am?
The ones I’ve looked at look factory flawless and have low-ish miles for how old they are. My concerns are:
What is cost of ownership for something like this and is it worse than a new vehicle?
Parts availability and finding people to work on them.
Am I going to have more issues, even small ones, with a vehicle this old?
Is it a bad idea to trust all of my transportation needs and sink all of my savings into a type of truck most people drive as a hobby vehicle?
My thought is older vehicles have less computer crap to deal with, should be more straight forward, and quality of construction is better then a lot of the modern vehicle manufacturer’s have gotten cheapened out on, and it still fills all of the needs that the Tundra/Taco/4Runner/GX would do for me while getting the same mileage
Appreciate any thoughts or advice
EDIT-
Got more cons than pros. If I had the space to DIY upkeep I might consider it more but it sounds like more then I’m able to do with what I got at my disposal right now. Thanks for the info and advice yall
