Texas State National Guard: British Foreign National

Hi all, I'm looking for advice.

I'm 32, married to a US Citizen and we're currently going through the immigration process for permanent residency. I'll be moving to Texas from the United Kingdom.

During that time I've been thinking about going for service in the Texas State National Guard as either a 91F [preferably] or a 91B.

My background has mostly been automotive, but I wanted to try something new and potentially change careers into Gunsmithing. Hence the 91F interest.

The idea of working a standard job in the automotive industry whilst getting trained and paid as a 91F on the weekends is what caught my eye.

I firstly want to do this to get qualifications and experience in firearms maintenance without having to pay for it.

Secondly, I think it would also be a great opportunity to experience Army life on the other side of the pond, as I've had a taste of it before in the UK during my time at the ACF.

Thirdly, the benefits during and after service look really appealing, especially compared to our own UK reserve units and could help my spouse and I get a 'leg-up' in the future we're building together.

91B could also be beneficial to me, as I only really have hands-on experience in the automotive trade, I never got any formal qualifications in my 10+ years in it.

However, I'm sick of cars.

Can you post your experience/recommendations?

Cheers.

32yo, Thinking about a career as a Vehicle Mechanic

The thought of joining the army as a regular has remained on my tongue for a while now. I come from a family that has a strong military history. Did Army Cadets at 12 to 14 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've spent most of my life in the automotive trade, mostly as a bodyshop painter but I have a wealth of mechanical knowledge.

My problem is most of that knowledge is experience only, I have no solid qualifications to my name, and I'd like to improve that for my CV in the future.

The reason I've left it so late to decide is because in my early life my career paths were all over the place. Telling myself 'I'll just join the army if this doesn't work out.' But time moves bloody fast. The worst part is I worked for a lot of managers who promised I'd be sent on training courses to get qualified, but those promises always fell short.

Not only would the qualifications from the Army be beneficial for me, but it would also scratch that itch I've had for years about being a soldier just like the men in my family tree were.

I wouldn't say my fitness is great, but I'm improving it. More running, cutting calories, focusing on getting leaner and stronger. My medical is all green so far.

Also, my GCSE's are lacking. I have a C in Science, but two E's for English and Maths. However, I did acquire Functional Skills Level 3 in English and Maths when I was at college studying Public Services. I heard FS L3's are equivalent to a GCSE C and I wonder if that would be considered.

I ask mainly if being 32 with a lot of mechanical experience would be considered desirable, and if there is any advice for someone like me thinking about this do-or-die decision.

Thanks.

32yo, Thinking about joining REME as a Vehicle Mechanic

The thought of joining the army has remained on my tongue for a while now. I come from a family that has a strong military history.

My years have been spent working in automotive trades, both as a mechanic and at bodyshops. The reason I didn't join earlier was simply because my career path was all over the place, and I couldn't decide fully on what to do.

Most of my experience in the trade has mostly been that, just experience, no solid qualifications apart from a City & Guilds L3 in motorcycle repairs and maintenance.

Fast forward to present day, I realise I want a solid CV in the future. As well as learning something completely new and experiencing what being a soldier is really about.

My fitness isn't amazing, but I'm working on it and improving. My medical checks are all green and I have no dependents, still living at home.

What's the likelihood of me getting in at my age?

For Those Affected By WeBuyAnyBike Administration

I wanted to create this post for anyone else that was affected by WeBuyAnyBike's Administration like me. [Also Superbike Factory]

As of today, I still wasn't paid for a lovely, mint Kawasaki Versys 1000 I sold to them. Collection was made on the 10th July. After collection, I was given an email stating payment be given to me on the 16th July.

It was only after near a hundred attempts to call them that I found out the company went into administration on the 20th.

..Bugger.

Since then, I contacted the appointed administration team via the email SBF@kr8.co.uk on SBF's and WBAB's website and the response I got raised an eyebrow, here's a summary:

"Based on the information available so far, ownership may have transferred to the Company before payment was completed, and in some cases the motorcycle may also have been assigned to a third-party funder as security."

Specifically, this part at the end of the whole reply caught my eye:

"We are actively seeking the appropriate legal advice at this stage due to the complexity of the situation and will issue you with a further update once we have one."

To me, it seems they don't quite know yet who actually owns the bike; me or the company when it was collected and in possession of the company, and it seems there's quite a large number of cases like this.

So I did a bit of digging, and managed to find WBAB's Terms and Conditions using Wayback Machine [dated 13th May 2026] and noticed quite a significant clause:

"6. Conditions of Contract: We are able to confirm to our satisfaction that we will obtain full and unfettered ownership of the bike on payment of the Price;"

However, there is also this:

"7. Collection By, or Delivery To, Us: We will take title to and risk in the bike when we take physical possession of it."

..Interesting.

My guess is this is what's stalling most of the investigations for other sellers in the same position as I'm in. As I speculate after they've sought legal advice, they'll probably decide on an outcome across the board for us all.

As of right now, I'm still waiting for a response after I sent them a significant evidence package of everything leading up to this point.

For anyone else out there facing this ridiculous issue, I'd first highly recommend when you contact the admin team about this, make sure you put across you want them to view it as an ownership claim first before there is any talk about becoming an unsecured creditor.

Hope any of this helps, and if anyone out there is going through the same bs, we can all band together here.

Superbike Factory Ltd, Collected My Bike and Didn't Pay Me

As of the 20th of July, SBF went into administration.

I sold my bike to them on the 10th of July, and was sent an email that I would receive the money on the 16th of July. As of yet, I have not been paid.

The V5 was transferred, both keys and the bike was collected and placed into their Crawley showroom. Before their website went down, the bike was already up for sale on their page.

I've since emailed the KR8 administration team to see what's going on and what can be done about my missing money. But as of yet, I've had no response.

Is there anything else I can do in the meantime? Also is there any chance I'll get to see the money that was owed to me for my bike?

Training: 'Z [None]' Issue 'Fix'

I wanted to put this out there for anyone struggling with the Training mission where you meet your elements and have to ask them to Fall In pressing Z but it does nothing and shows up in the bottom right as 'Z [None'.

I have 170hrs in the game and completed it a dozen times. Now I'm achievement hunting, and got stuck on 'Practice Makes Perfect' because of this. Couldn't find any reliable 'fixes' out there but I managed to figure what I was doing wrong.

Turns out, in the Options menu, under Gameplay tab, there is a few options for Issue Default Command.

I had this set to Hold/Resume, way before Training was added. Switching the slider back to Fall In is what 'fixed' it for me.

Hope this helps.
