Gallstones — is removing the gallbladder really the only option?

I’ve been researching gallstones way more than I probably should, and I’m surprised by how few alternatives seem to be discussed.

I keep seeing the same answer: remove the gallbladder. But I’ve also found information about stone removal, gallbladder-preserving procedures and medications like Ursodiol.

I’m not saying these are automatically better or that surgery is unnecessary. I’m just curious whether anyone here has actually tried something other than removing the entire organ.

Has anyone successfully dealt with gallstones while keeping their gallbladder? If so, what did you try and what happened long-term?

I’m especially interested in real experiences rather than another “just get it removed” answer.

Could gallbladder problems be making my digestive issues worse?

I’ve been researching gallstones and gallbladder problems quite a lot lately, and I’m starting to wonder how much they can affect digestion overall.

I know GERD, indigestion and gallbladder issues aren’t the same thing, but I’ve seen people mention things like reflux, bloating, nausea and difficulty with certain foods when they also have gallstones.

For those who have dealt with both, did removing your gallbladder actually improve any of your digestive symptoms, or did it make no difference?

I’m trying to understand whether these things can actually be connected or if I’m just overthinking everything after reading way too much about gallstones.

Has anyone compared gallbladder-preserving options in different countries?

I’ve gone pretty deep down the rabbit hole researching gallbladder-preserving procedures, and now I’m trying to compare the options rather than just looking at one place.

From what I’ve found so far, there seem to be approaches in China, the US, Turkey and a few other countries, but they all seem to have their own way of doing things.

For example, I’ve seen an approach in the US that involves leaving a drainage tube for quite a while, and honestly that part makes me pretty hesitant. I’ve also looked at some options in Turkey, but the number of restrictions and conditions they seem to put around the procedure makes me question whether it would be worth travelling there.

China is currently the option I’m researching most seriously. The information I’ve seen so far about their gallbladder-preserving approach looks pretty interesting, but obviously I’m not going to blindly trust promotional material either.

And then there are other countries I’ve come across, but I’m still trying to figure out what is actually legitimate and what is just marketing.

Has anyone here actually compared these options or had a gallbladder-preserving procedure abroad? I’d be really interested in hearing which country you chose and why.

Pre op, gallbladder issue

i swear the more i read the more confused i get.

got diagnosed with gallstones not long ago and every surgeon i've seen basically says "take the gallbladder out" like it's the easiest decision in the world.

but then i spend an hour reading people's experiences online and suddenly i'm questioning everything again. some people say it was the best thing they ever did. others say they still have digestive problems years later. it's like there are two completely different realities.

i'm not against surgery if i really need it. i just don't want to rush into something permanent without knowing i've looked at every possible option first.

did anyone else get stuck in this endless cycle of researching everything? what finally made you stop overthinking and actually make a decision?

right now i honestly feel like i'm just going in circles.
