Me : When it comes to Damien Orlov

Me : When it comes to Damien Orlov

Do I need to elaborate?!

Damien is fucking up mind ever since I read Empire of Sin and didn't leave and my love for Damien fucking Orlov is.. as high as the Olympus Mons (Mars). I miss my man more than Sebastian missed Naomi in Black Thorns. I NEED Damien and Mio like NOW. But I don't want Rina to rush their book or else I would hit my head in order to forget the book. Love you Damien Orlov and hopefully meeting you soon.

I am confused

I recently finished Throne Duet and I am pretty confused about Rai's roles , responsibilities and qualifications. Maybe it's because of the mafia setting but she is one of the important member of V-corp before becoming the executive director at V-corp (which is responsible for finance ,if we describe it in minimal words) yet I don't exactly see much of her work as a member of V-corp. She is supposed to be someone in that background and working around money and tax frauds, money laundering. But that's rarely done.

What is her role then?

Can someone hit me in the head so I can forget this?

I think we all know about the God of Pain vertical short drama done in reelshort and my forwarded me a video of around 21 minutes (ep 1 to 12) and against my better judgement I watched it , just to rant here. (Others who decided to watch it, you guys are extremely brave but I am not that tolerant. I watched it in 2x speed and couldn't get past ep 12)

Let's start from the basics :

  1. Characters : Adrian Volkov is supposed to be extremely protective, caring and doting father whom Annika loved, respected and sometimes feared (I mean who wouldn't fear Adrian Volkov). But in that masterpiece, Adrian is an abusive father who doesn't care about his daughter's wishes at all. He's just obsessed with marrying her off. (Typical fathers of forced arrange marriage dramas). Infact they didn't do simple research on Adrian Volkov. Adrian is brunette, grey eyes, muscular and most importantly he is the strategist of the NYC Bratva not the Pakhan or king. He didn't take the position of the Pakhan because he would rather stay home and be the Obshchak than be the Pakhan. There they made him the Pakhan.

Lia Volkov barely has any dialogue or screen time even though Lia and Annika are extremely close and Annika literally followed the same path of her mother. Lia doesn't open her mouth in front of Adrian at all meanwhile in book, Lia would be kind yet firm infront of Adrian.

Jeremy is extremely passive and can't even say anything infront of his father meanwhile book Jeremy respects his father yet doesn't back down from his decisions.

Brandon is shown as someone who is extremely interested in marrying Annika. None knows why. Brandon isn't even a King. He isn't even Creighton's cousin.

Cecily , Ava and Glyn are scared of the Elites.

Elites are reduced to typical high school, university bullies.

Cecily is shown as anything except the responsible, kind, firm Cecily whom Annika idolised for being confident.

Ava isn't outgoing at all.

Glyndon is barely there , just like the books but she is mis-characterized.

Killian is calling Ava love for no reason. And is a part of the Elites. There are no sign of Heathens, infact Jeremy is shown to be someone wayy older than Annika.

Remington is made into awful concoction of Landon , Eli and Nikolai. He is not hilarious and dumb at all. Book Remington would have stabbed this one to death.

Creighton is shown to be the bad boy instead of the introverted, eating, sleeping and fighting Creighton who is extremely close to Eli even though he pretends to hate him. Is extremely close to his mother and father.

I haven't seen any sign of Eli in the 12 episodes I have watched.

No sign of Landon and Nikolai.

  1. Storyline : The storyline is something along the lines of Creighton already knowing who his father's killers are and wants to harm the Volkovs. That creepy bald man on the other hand is ready to sell his daughter off to man named Dmitri Morozov, who is apparently from Chicago Bratva. The makers forgot that NYC and Chicago Bratva are enemies. Anyways, Creighton saves Annika from that Dmitri and she wants him to marry her since none else would protect her. Creighton says no but he is attracted to her. Also, Creighton in this universe goes to BDSM club. Lia and Adrian live in England btw. No sign of Kolya, Yan or anyone in that matter. Overall it's a mess.

A complete butchering of the GOD OF PAIN.

  1. Dialogues: Cringey ass.

  2. Cast is awful.

Only pros are :

  1. Annika acts somewhat similar to the way she is written which I believe is only there because it's the typical personality of all the short drama FLs.

  2. Cecily's hair is white.

If this is how they did GOP, I don't even want to know how they are gonna do GOR, GOF and GOW.

Give little introduction of yourselves.

I am a full time student whose main subjects are economics and maths. I think I'm on the less mature side of users. Legally adult but not enough to have a drink in the USA. (I am not even from the USA). I can speak three languages fluently. Good enough to hold conversations in 4 and learning 2. The first book I read by Rina Kent was God of Wrath. I do martial arts, can play basketball and volleyball. I am a noob at figureskating but love it. I read classics as well like Jane Austen, Franz Kafka etc. I also have queer interests like doing research on negative energies, visiting haunted places and making up weirdest scenarios in my head.

Confession

Now, if you don't know I am a total Kirill fangirl (I think you all can guess by looking at my flair) but anyway, when I first found out about Kirill I was so enraged at him.

Let's get back to 2025, the only RK Books I have read are LOG and RES. I was looking for mafia book recommendations after reading Made series and Perfectly Imperfect series. I found few recommendations like Deception Trilogy, Dark Verse Series, Monster Trilogy. I look up the leads and it's mentioned Kirill Morozov and Aleksandra Ivanova. And then I found a video of Lies of my Monster.

The audio was of this part :

“End it with her. Choose me.”

“I told you I can't do that.”

“Then let me go.”

“No.”

“You can't have us both. I won't be your damn mistress.”

And he was pretty popular and loved. And since I had no context of what's happening, I was like : How dare you choose another woman and yet say that she isn't allowed to leave? What in the misogyny is this?

It's almost hilarious now, whenever I replay this in my mind.

Ships that feel illegal

So this post is gonna be controversial but who cares. Let's just go :

Yulian Dimitriev and Lidya Morozova : Do I need to say more?

Vaughn Morozov and Maya Sokolov : Rai and Kirill??

Ik that none can compete their chemistry but it doesn't hurt to imagine.

I have a whole plot ready for Maya and Vaughn for no reason. Maybe I'm gonna write a fanfiction on AO3 or something.

Asher Carson

Let's look at Asher's perspective.

Asher's father has always been distant to him. His whole world is Arianna (and he knows that she is a psychopath) and still he tries his best to keep her with him.

And then his sister dies and she is like don't let her off the hook.

Would not you seek revenge? Maybe not. But I will.

His actions were truly unforgivable but they made sense. I hate Asher and Reina as a pair but Asher himself is more understandable character.

I honestly understand him more than I thought I would. My initial thought was like I would hate Asher after I read GoM but I do understand him.

As a father :

He literally wasn't the worst. He just wanted to understand his son, therapy might sound awful but as a neuro divergent person myself, pretending to be neurotypical is worse than getting a psychologist. He tried his level best and said one awful line in the heat of the moment and I don't condone it. Having kids is your choice and you can't go “you are my mistake” on your child. But I get it. (my mom has said to be countless times.) And Asher's decision to not force his other son into therapy was because he was scared Gareth would distance himself from Asher as well.

Asher is a flawed character and as much as I feel some of his actions are unforgivable, I do understand him. Asher deserves some respect as a character. Not as a boyfriend though.

We need to talk

  1. Is criticizing just “the platform” for all the problematic authors to get the fame actually worth it?

  2. Where are we heading in romance terms of quality of books now?

Let's discuss

The list of fanfictions I believe would work exceptionally well :

  1. Nicole had Daniel's second child (whom I assume is a girl) and someone who is atleast 16 years older than her.

  2. Conrad in a MM relationship.

  3. Julian and Annalise.

  4. Agnus and Ethan.

  5. Jeremy and some another mafia princess other than Sokolov twins. I can't see Jer and Lan happening because I love Mia-Lan too much to ever think anyone could replace her from Landon's life.

Teal van Doren

I really think when people describe beautiful FMCs they often forget about her except when they don't (I have seen few with her included).

Teal was described to be the most beautiful gothic snow-white with the beautiful features that compliment her perfectly.

She is one of the brunettes who was considered attractive even by the people who hated her.

Teal really stands out alot in RES due to her attitude, behaviour and beauty.

Girl really is a strong woman.

My favourite RES FMC.

I hated the way she was treated in LOG and her lack of appearance was maddening.

That being said woman is strategic, hot and exceptional.

She even got the best MMC of the RES. You go Girl.

Asher and Reina Carson

Let's talk about my man Asher first.

Now, usually I don't say much when I praise any character but today I believe it's needed.

I liked Asher Carson in the 2nd book of Lies & Truth Duet , All the Truths. But I despised him in All The Lies for the harms he did to Reina and almost killed her that too multiple times over something she had no hands in and unlike other characters he never earned himself. Yes, Asher is hot and I find him attractive (more than Cole and Xander). Yes, he saved Reina but that's what a MMC is supposed to do protect your girl. I hated Reina and Asher as a couple mostly because Reina deserved better. I am not here to shame anyone for liking the pair since I like Asher too but I found them a terrible match who got together for the sake of HEA and that's it. And only few couple are there from Rinaverse that I find are together , totally for the sake of HEA. Ofcourse, reading is subjective but...Asher got forgiven for the shit he pulled through too easily.

Now, Reina.. I just can't fathom how she lost all her survival skills after loosing her memories. Maybe I am being too harsh but she was acting way too like a ignorant toddler rather than a fully grown 21 year old. Plus, she was extremely terrible in Red Thorns and her reasons for the dare were flimsy excuses. She never redeemed herself, if she had her memories then she would have never changed. I have a love-hate relationship with her because she and her minions especially Brianna had hurted my Naomi. And as a Naomi lover, I proudly say she got forgiven too early and easily. And Sebastian was ... NVM.

Imo, Rina Kent doesn't know how to truly redeem mean girls and bullies other than just giving a “they had their reasons” which I hate.

Now, if anyone says that I am a Nicole defender so I should not be disliking Reina. I am gonna say I will never glorify anything Nicole has done to Astrid and as someone who was bullied extensively from age 7 to 13 (until I beat the pulp out of one bully and got suspended for a week after she insulted by hobbies), I understand the harms done by bulling. She is a perpetrator in Astrid's story but a victim in her story too. Her being a bully doesn't cancel out the fact that she needed help for her toxic crush and attachment to Daniel. And you can be a victim in one scenario while being a perpetrator in another. Besides life had already humbled her enough and she got the shortest end of the stick and married the awful man. (I would not elaborate on that now.) But my point still stands, Nicole changed for the better. Reina on the other hand changed only because she forgot who she was and Reina's actions were nothing compared to Nicole's actions. But the justifications maddened me.

Let's talk about my least favourite books

So, these are the books that I either skimmed through in order to finish.

  1. Kingdom Duet.

I wasn't a big fan of Johnathan even in Cruel King and Deviant King Trilogy and especially found his “plan” pretty

absurd since to me no billionaire who has this much power has the time in life to play games with a 17 year old and take her Steel Empire. Plus, I found the relationship icky. I would have loved if Aurora was anyone other than Alicia's sister. I don't care about age gap in fiction. Infact I loved that Aurora was 27 and had fully developed frontal lobe something half the age gap FMCs don't have. I am okay with 20 or more age gap but I prefer the FMC to be atleast 25 or 26. Johnathan gave me a villian for the sake of the villain guy. I don't care if you like him or hate him. I don't.

2.Empire of Desire

The idea of a 20 year old and her father's best friend was gross. The justification on Rina's end was disgusting. Like in both Empire of Desire and Empire of Lust everyone was like Nate didn't see her as a woman until she was 18. Which is such a icky thing to say. I just didn't like Gwyneth at all which is a shame since her mother is my all time favourite.

  1. Ruthless Empire

Now, this is a shame because my friend had already given me spoiler about the Doll master's real identity. Which kinda made me lose interest since I was reading just for the sake of it. I dislike Silver and unlike Nicole she never had repercussions. I skimmed through it and forgot everything in two days.

  1. Empire of Hate

I couldn't stand Daniel half the time because of how immature he was on Page . In Cruel King he was still tolerable as a protective bestie but later on he was just pathetic.

  1. All The Lies

I love Asher in All the Truths and Lies but maybe it's because I am a Naomi lover I just couldn't forgive Reina until after All the Truths. Because to me , it felt like the excuse for the dare was flimsy and was given by Rina just to make Reina seem like a good person.

KIRILL MOROZOV

Mann, even the name is soo popular and even someone who has no idea of Mafia romance would know about him. And for all the right reasons. Kirill can't never be over loved or loved too much or any of the nonsense. Period.

Man is protective, strong and cunning and that's my daily dessert.

Also, petty warning ⚠️, my only criticisms of the Trilogy is that :

A) Kirill says Rai can't be the Pakhan because she is a woman and not any other reason. Which is misogynistic. But at the same time he was raised in a misogynistic environment, he is bound to act this way. I dislike it and despite loving him with my whole heart I hated this detail of his character. Or maybe I missed something which I think y'all will educate me on.

B) Him constantly saying he is the best candidate and then RK never shows how he acts or his roles after he becomes the Pakhan. Heart of my Monster revolves around a totally different aspect which isn't inherently bad but I wanted him to be THE Pakhan on page.

C) Repeatedly calling Kristina as the robot. Now, I don't expect more from him but since I am unreasonable like that I would throw it out in the wild.

Anyways, THE best father in my opinion is Kirill (Adrian and Aiden gets points deducted for certain reasons that I have said before)

Kirill and Sasha are elite and none of the RK has able to even come close in dethroning them except Ava and Eli.

Does Cecily lack backbone?

So, I did read a post about Cecily and how awful she is. Apparently, Cecily is deemed to be the Mother Teresa by the fans. Allegedly. Which imo is Mother Teresa's disrespect but I'm not here to elaborate that.

Now, Idk about other redditors but I dislike Jer and Cecy (and have stated so openly) , which means I should be the last person speaking in Cecily's defence but even I am here to defend Cecily.

Look what you have done fellow reader.

Let's break it down in few points.

  1. She easily forgave the man who tried tried to kill the man she loves.

Let's look at Cecily's background. She is the only daughter of Xander and Kim. Kim is Elsa's best friend which means Cecily has grown up with Creighton and the two have seen each other often. And Landon is Elsa's cousin in law's son who also happens to be Cecily's ex crush. Cutting them off from her life is not happening. In case of Creighton, he did not try to KILL Jeremy , he made it look like he did and indirectly made Annika shoot him. Jeremy himself had said it in God of Pain. Plus, a caring character like Cecily is definitely more concerned about her friend/brother over a man she met a few weeks ago. Cecily did not accept that she loves Jeremy at that time. In case of Landon, Cecily was mad but she is not someone like Mia or Ariella who would cut off the entire world for the person they love. Besides , she WAS blaming herself as well. Even if she had said something to Landon he would have said something along the lines of “you were in it” to her. Besides neither Landon nor Creighton even would have cared whether Cecily talked to them or not.

  1. Comparison with Mia

Cecily and Mia are two different characters with different personalities. Mia is openly hostile and has more courage than Cecily. It's like comparing Rai and Kimberly. Will you do that? No, right? Then why are you comparing the daughters?

  1. Her involvement in the kidnapping.

Cecily had no idea that Creighton plans on kidnapping Annika. She had thought Creighton wants to see Annika and reconcile. What's with the man , man? In that particular period of time, Cecily didn't want to name her feelings for him and it was vice versa from Jeremy's side.

  1. She sent her OWN FATHER to send Jeremy away.

She did not want to see Jeremy so she simply said Xander to send him away. She did not tell Xander to kill Jeremy. If you don't want to see someone, you would not want them in your vicinity as well. That's not her fault.

  1. Adrian

I don't know if everyone here has read Deception Trilogy or not but the ones who have, definitely know how callow Adrian acts. The whole thing with Lia is a proof of that. The only reason he didn't harm Cecily is because of Jeremy and if he did I am sure Jeremy wouldn't have forgiven him. Some of the things Adrian had done are stupid and I am an Adrian fan and have always said he has his reasons but that doesn't mean he is not..puerile.

Moving on,

  1. She treats Jeremy like a villain

Idk about others but if a man stalks me, scares the shit outta me with a gun, doesn't understand my perspective (in both Annika situation and the fire predicament) and still says he loves me I would be ignoring him for months too. Because I don't deserve a man who doesn't understand me. She had thought he did not care about her and would hurt her in some other way again. She hated the lack of understanding on Jeremy's end.(I am not blaming Jeremy for anything, I am simply stating the dynamic. I know that in the Annika situation Jeremy was concerned about his sister and was mad at Cecily for not understanding his sister. But the vice versa could be said about him and I am doing that only)

  1. She keeps their secrets.

It wasn't hers to tell.

  1. She had spent months making the man who actually LOVES her grovelling

Are you all mad that she didn't accept Jeremy with open arms? Is that it? Why are you all loosing your marbles over a girl finally not letting the man who LOVES her , disrespect her? The story wasn't revolving around Landon , Creighton and Cecily's platonic relationships. It was revolving around Jer and Cecy.

  1. Jeremy deserved so much better than the her double standards

Double standards? Are you insane? Jeremy was no saint, he got what he did.

You know what your issue is? You hate everyone who do not hate Landon or Creighton. You dislike nearly every Elites other than Eli and Brandon.

By the way readers, can we talk about how unsatisfactory the ending was? Like we are told that Jeremy is grovelling but we are not shown what he does , how he does. Plus, the confession was so....bland. Like you're telling me after months of grovelling and ignoring they reunite like this? Anyways, I have to say that God of Wrath is my first Rinaverse book. And I liked them initially but halfway through I kinda found it bland. Sorry. (Not sorry.)

I am not hating on anyone, I'm just talking about the canonical events of the series.

How is Brandon in the wrong?

Before talking about good qualities of my best friend Brandon I want to say that none is flawless and perfect. But Brandon is one of the helpful, kind and sweet character in the whole LOG series. He is actively trying to be helpful, knows he is privileged and doesn't let it get to his head. Had no enemies. (Even people who hated others from the King Family did not hate Bran.) Take Killian for example.

Now examples of the things he did for Niko :

1.He cooked for him.

  1. Cleaned up his wounds.

  2. Made sure he had sweets restocked. Even he made sweet jaw and bread for Niko infront of Levi and Astrid while Levi was having a mental crisis. That's some ✨✨✨.

  3. Made sure Niko stays hygienic. (Took him to shopping to get new clothes and shaved his face regularly.)

Now, to talk about the supposed awful things he did to Niko and others.

Like forced Niko to keep their relationship private.

I don't know about you all but Bran has an evil twin brother (one of my favourite) Landon who is a narcc and has ASPD. Landon has made both of his siblings have self doubts and even though it's not entirely his fault, (still his fault tho) Brandon and Glyndon had to suffer from the consequences. As someone who has ASPD, a character like Brandon is not the one who struggles with empathy and emotions so he feels stuff and when Lan saved him as spare parts it has definitely hurted him.

Also, Brandon was assaulted by that woman (forgot the name), had a girlfriend who cheated on him and then suddenly a tattooed guy got obsessed with him. He invites you to his initiation, forces you to sit on his lap, calls you lotus flower, has sex with you while you have trauma related to it, like come on.. idk about you crazies (to Brandon haters) I would be wary of Niko. He is got totally sunshine and rainbows and had his moments but he is still not the awful Niko hurt-er, or a terrible friend. He was a good friend to Remi, Mia and even Killian btw whom his brother hated.

You are allowed to dislike him but giving reasons like he is an awful friend is.... NVM.

Thanks for reading my awfully long rant.
