Panzerkampf J-10 launching same time as HM's, coincidence again?

FlyingMule has it on pre-order for 6 different camos, two of which match the announced HM ones.

Last year, same happened with the Mirage 3 with both launching them at the same time with overlapping camos.

Is this another coincidence or do they share tooling/molds behind the scene? It just doesn't make sense for two brands to launch the same thing at the same time and it's happened twice lol.

Financial district rents are off the charts

I used to rent a high rise unit there in 2022-23 for ~$3500 (expensive but had a great view, moved to east bay after a year). I was just looking at prices the other day out of curiosity and that same unit (1b/1b, 600sqft) now goes for $7000 plus $750 for parking, so with utilities and everything you're looking at like $8500 a month!

Even a $200k tech base salary will be entirely consumed by that rent.. What the hell is going on?

San Francisco in Photos

I used to do a lot of photography (unfortunately don't have time for it that much anymore because of work). Was going over old archives and found these from my early days. Hope you enjoy!

Unthinkable (2010), the ending doesn't make sense?

Just watched this film after having it in my list for a while. I enjoyed it but I don't understand the ending.

>!H finally break Yusuf by making him believe he will torture his kids. Fair enough. That's the logical conclusion of the movie after all; H has made it seem like he can do anything and Yusuf believes it and gives up the bombs.!<

But then..

>!H suddenly reveals that there's a 4th bomb that Yusuf never mentioned. Yusuf doesn't deny it so yeah, maybe there were 4 bombs. This plan doesn't make sense though: if Yusuf didn't have any demands and just wanted to kill people, then making it seem like there were three bombs while he actually had a 4th one makes sense, right?!<

>!Why would Yusuf even tell anyone about the bombs if he wanted to hide a 4th one? Just let the bombs blow up and then release a manifesto or something. If the 4th bomb was meant as leverage for his demands then not revealing it means he can't use it as leverage. If the threat of his children being tortured was enough for him to reveal the first three, then the same threat would be enough for the 4th. They are not going to suddenly stop torturing him just because he revealed the 4th bomb.!<

>!Also, why doesn't H reveal this suspicion earlier to everyone? !<

Yeah, so this ending kinda undermines Yusuf's intentions and the whole plot. It just exists so the movie can ask some profound questions I guess. (though is it profound at that point really..)

What do you think?

Need help identifying childhood toy car/truck sets

I unfortunately no longer have access to these so can't provide photos. I don't have existing photos of them either.

Growing up in late 90s, I had many sets of toy car trucks from a potentially European manufacturer that all had the same aesthetics. Haven't been able to find them after hours of looking on ebay and getting Google/Gemini/ChatGPT/etc to find them for me.

Here's all I remember:

  • Purchased through the 90s.
  • Plastic cars, trucks, buses, construction vehicles.
  • Realistic simple molds but not collector-grade. Quality wasn't cheap.
  • Cars included a gold Mercedes, a blue Range Rover, an orange pickup truck, Volkswagen style vans, red Lamborghini, green Porsche 911, etc.
  • Cars had simple discs as wheels connected by a metal rod. Trucks had bigger wheels.
  • Car were 1" or so. Trucks were larger. The relevant sizes were correct.
  • Single color exterior molds with single-color interior molds with transparent plastic windows.
  • Trucks/buses generally had stickers on the outside.
  • Sets included small structures too: A white carwash with two rollers that you could drive a car through (wasn't long enough to fit the car at once), orange office building, a fast-food style restaurant, a toll station with a blue roof, etc.
  • Some sets included animals and painted figures (< 1" tall).
  • Not Majorette, Dickie, Tomica, etc. Must have been a less known brand.
  • Based on the looks of the vehicles, it must have been a European brand rather than an American or Japanese one.

I would appreciate you helping me find these childhood relics! Please link photos.

Why is Panzerkampf releasing new molds the same time as Hobby Master?

Last year, both HM and panzerkampf released Mirage 3 at literally the same time. The Panzerkampf one has rivet detail, weathering and comes in more colors but otherwise they are the same quality level.

Recently, it seems like panzerkampf also has a J-10 coming, at literally the same time as HM..

Why do they do this? Do they develop the molds together and then panzerkampf adds more details on top of it?

It just doesn't make sense since they target the same audience and people are gonna grab one or the other. Either manufacturer will have better luck making something the other one doesn't.. like panzerkampf can make a J-20 or JF-17 or something that pairs well with the J-10 (or Mirage 5 or F1 in the earlier case) or something entirely different. Panzerkampf has MiG-19 which HM doesn't. I call that strategic thinking. The same doesn't apply here.

Constant lower-back pain with Casper mattress

I had a Casper twin size mattress when I was in grad school (and for a little while after), ~5 years and I loved it. When I got a job and rented my own place, I got a Queen size one, anticipating a gf to move in at some point. Now 4 years have passed and I'm living with a partner and I've been waking up with lower back pain almost daily for the past 6 months (I'm 30 yo male, 180lb, 6 feet tall).

The Casper is obviously very soft and I can feel myself sinking in it but it wasn't causing trouble for the first 3 years and my original twin mattress never caused me any issues either, I loved it for how soft it was.

Has the presence of a partner (~3 years now) accelerated it becoming softer or is it the normal lifespan? I don't remember if I sank in it as much as I do today when I initially bought it or not.

I've bought a Helix Midnight Luxe for now (been meaning to get a king mattress anyway) and I haven't had the lower back pain ever since I started sleeping on it. The Helix is much firmer though still very comfortable.

I'm curious to know if this is common with Caspers?

We're stuck on marriage decision, looking for perspectives

I've had a partner for 3 years now. She is amazing, extremely kind, loving, caring, supportive and fully compatible with me ideologically. We are each other's best friends. Honestly I never thought a relationship could be this smooth.

We are both financially independent and super-responsible with money and have significant (relatively) savings and assets. I make 3x her income today (and she makes 6 figures) with the future prospect being even a wider gap. Each of us always pays for themselves whenever we do something and we both spend money on things we like independently. She likes jewelry, designer bags, etc. I have a sports car and my own hobbies.

Given all that, getting married seems like the logical next step and if I was ever to marry someone then it would be her.

But I'm extremely cynical of marriage. In fact, I fucking hate the institution of marriage and find it completely irrelevant in a world where men and women can both have financial independence. Like not getting married and still living our lives together is far more pure than being forced to stay in a broken relationship just because a divorce can be too messy and too costly. Marriage makes people stay with each other far longer than they should, eventually becoming each other's worst enemies by the time a divorce is in order. No sane free person should ever give in to marriage IMO. But enough ranting..

She has family and a sizable inheritance waiting for her (plus her current financial state is top notch). She would never need to pay rent in her life or worry about anything financially. I on the hand have only myself and no family or inheritance. I have friends and large social network, but that's not the same as family.

So I feel the need to protect myself from a divorce because I don't want to end up paying someone who's worth more than me spousal support just because she makes less. Remember that this all hypothetical. I love her today but if we're at the point of divorce one day, the we probably already hate each other, and we have no reason to care about each other's well-being. It may not end that badly, but that's how the marriage system forces a divorce to be. Again, I'm ranting..

Well then the clear thing to do is write a prenup. But I think even suggesting that (and I haven't yet) will destroy the relationship today. Maybe it won't, but how would I know before asking? There's just so much stigma and lack of goodwill attached to a prenup, which is one more reason I HATE the institution of marriage: if you want to get away from the state interfering in your life, then you have to get the partner to sign a contract with you on how you will divorce before you're even married!

The other things is the decision of kids. I've never wanted them and she doesn't see herself wanting one anytime soon (we're both 30) but she wants to keep that door open. Of course having kids is a binary decision, specifically a binary AND function: even if one person doesn't, then we won't have them.

Now we both agree that if we ever want to have kids, it will be one daughter. But we don't want that now and there's no guarantee that I'll want the kid when she decides to have it. She says she may also never want it, but who knows, if committing to not having it is so difficult then she probably deeply wants the kids no matter how much she says she doesn't.

We're still discussing this but I really don't know how we can resolve this. We're just not in the time and place where the decision could be made.

To be clear, I would have wanted the prenup anyway regardless of whether we were aligned on kids or not, but the fact that we have this friction today raises the possibility of divorce down the line significantly.

So what do I do?

  • We get married, we end up having the kid and it works great.
  • We get married, we end up not having the kid and it works great.
  • We get married, we end up having the kid and I end up resenting her and the kid, I will go broke paying for a kid I hate and an ex-wife I hate who also happens to have millions in inheritance (and even if we prenup away the spousal support, I'll have to pay for the kid anyway).
  • We get married, I refuse to have the kid and we end up divorcing. I may end up paying her spousal support and lose significant financial assets depending on the prenup. There is no world in which she would have to pay me anything despite having $millions in inheritance.
  • We break up today, saving her the trouble of having to potentially find someone to have kids with when she's 35 and sparing me the potential of getting wrecked financially. I'll be alone, go on dates and may end up finding someone else with whom I will enforce the prenup and absolute no-kid thing from day one. Worst case I'll day alone or regret letting go of her for the rest of my life.

Anyone has an AF1 1/72 X-47 they're willing to sell?

To the admin: sorry for posting non-HM stuff but this is the best subreddit for 1/72 military aviation diecast :)

I recently learned that AF1 made a very good-looking X-47 model years ago and haven't been able to find one on ebay yet. Does anyone have one to sell? DM me please.

MiG 1.44 Please?

It's a unique-looking (no other Russian jet uses this delta configuration as far as I know) late-soviet era jet with stealth features that was actually built and flew but was eventually abandoned.

If you've played Command and Conquer: Generals game, China's MiG is essentially the 1.44.

Would be lovely if HM made this one. There's a bunch of color schemes they can do:

  • The standard soviet silver color schema that the prototype had
  • The red and white color schema of the Chinese MiG from Generals (I'll buy this, they can do a USA Raptor from the same game)
  • The contemporary Russian camo schemes (fictional)

Using Push 3, how do I record a fixed-length clip of 6 bars?

I can't find a way to record something that's 6 bars, none of the encoders or buttons allow you to pick anything other than the default power-of-two lengths.

Am I doing something dumb or does this thing really lack the ability to set an arbitrary length?
