Starfield Continues

Despite a lot of worry over the past few weeks about development coming to an end, Bethesda's just dropped this on Twitter - including a tease for Starborn content in 2027.

Where Loyalties Lie (Crimson Fleet Spoilers)

Between the last three years on Xbox and the last month on PS5, hundreds of hours over a dozen playthroughs, there's one thing that I've never actually been able to bring myself to do...

Actually, there's a lot of things I haven't done, but for dramatic purposes, here's the one - I have never sided with the Crimson Fleet against SysDef.

And it's because of this line right here. "Everyone around here is a traitor."

Now, strictly speaking with how I've played my characters, there are two paths as to why I've never sided with the Fleet.

  1. Good Guy: Generally speaking, the usual reason I don't side with the perpetual murderhobos is because, at the end of the day, I like playing a good guy. The Crimson Fleet, for whatever sense of purpose and freedom they claim, are inherently the bad guys. They kill and steal, murder and rob, and revel in the dark sides of society. Siding against them has nothing to do with SysDef being good, it's entirely about doing right by the galaxy.
  2. Ultimate Pirate: "Everyone around here is a traitor." When you confront Delgado at the end of the run, he tells you he can't believe that you specifically were a traitor, because he truly believed that you could be one of the best pirates around. But here's the thing - that's exactly why he should believe it. Jasper Kryx himself betrayed the leader of the Crimson Scar, killed them to take over, and then consistently betrayed his second-in-command, Isa, by cutting her out of deals. In return, she betrayed him and sabotaged his run at the Legacy, leaving him to starve to death alone on the ship. The Fleet is where loyalty is a lie, and only traitors get ahead. Good pirates are traitors to each other; the only way to get ahead is to do things bigger and better than the last guy; ergo, the ultimate pirate is the one who can betray all others.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
