Convergence: Farum Azusa complaints (rant/vent)

What on God’s green earth have they done to this dungeon? What kind of labyrinthine inverted nonsense is this supposed to be? Or maybe I’m just stupid? The paths are so long. There are so few graces. I’ve discovered one shortcut by accident, so no thanks for making those apparent. I am absolutely lost. No idea where I am, where I’m going, or where I need to be. I beat a boss and found some bell bearings. That’s good! But it didn’t keep me from getting ambushed and killed and losing a solid 30 minutes of progression. It’s also nice that they added SO MANY platformer areas so I have maximum chances of falling to my death!

I’m not sure if this is meant to be an improvement over the original but I feel like I’m playing dark souls 2 again. Same with Raya Lucaria and its endless projectiles and Volcano Manor with its 10k hp snakes. Really annoyed at every turn, with no indicator if I’m going the right direction or not. Not looking for guidance, just offering feedback.

Kind of skeptical of Dawnwalker after the “saga” announcement.

Honestly, I’ve been looking forward to Dawnwalker and I’ve definitely liked everything that I’ve seen, but this trailer kind of rubbed me the wrong way personally. They’ve basically announced at least one sequel before the first game has even come out, and while that definitely speaks to the confidence of the team in their work, personally I feel it speaks to a lack of humility as well. From a marketing standpoint, they’re saying there’s basically a 0% chance that Blood of Dawnwalker is going to flop and people are without a doubt going to want a sequel. While this might be true, I feel it kind of sends the wrong message about the team’s relationship with the audience, you know? Like, historically I think it’s been shown how when companies get overly cocky about their product, it tends to be a bad sign. And, moreover, I think it deserves to be respected that you can be confident in your work and your intended audience still may not enjoy it, because there are perspectives you didn’t consider and that can be something to learn from with your next project. Yet, they’re telling us they’re so confident we will like this game that they’ve already begun work on a sequel, without even knowing if people will want it. What if Blood of Dawnwalker *does* flop? It’ll be awkward to say the least and that in itself might screw the company over. They’ll be pouring years of dev time and resources into a game they’ve already committed to making. But it’ll be doomed from the start, because nobody is interested in it. For a budding studio, even with an experienced team, I question whether that’s a loss they can take. From my understanding of the business, they are quite literally hinging the entire studio’s future on the roaring success of their first game and telling the world that it’s a guaranteed hit.

I don’t know, I love Witcher 3 with all my heart and I do look forward to Dawnwalker but I’m not really excited by the very high level of confidence they’re displaying. I’m probably going to wait for the initial reception at launch before I decide if I’m going to play it.
