The Jew's harp
is more commonly known as the jaw harp today. Its an instrument played with the mouth, and actually dates back to China and has nothing to do with the Jewish people.
In German, it is known as Maultrommel, which translates directly to 'mouth drum'.
The name "Jew's Harp" first appears in 1481 in a customs account book under the name "Jue harpes". The "jaw" variant is attested at least as early as 1774 and 1809
