PS6 For Sony Is About Adding New Ways To Play
Looking at various leaks/rumors, it's obvious that PS6 is going to be a Switch copycat. It's going to be a handheld hybrid console w/dock that has the raw power/capability of around a base PS5.
How much is it going to cost? Probably $599 is my guess. Would not be a bad price given the current market conditions for the what you're getting imho. And there will likely be a home console only version of PS6 that will be the premium, or "Pro", offering. Will likely be $999, however.
But here's the thing. If you don't have the money to upgrade, you don't have to! Because all PS6 games have to run on the low power hybrid, basically all games will be able to run on PS5.
Sony will heavily lean on the hybrid features with the debut of the PS6 as the reason to purchase. And why shouldn't they? Switch has been a massive success. Steam Deck is popular, other PC handhelds are gaining traction, and Xbox handheld is coming. It makes all the sense in the world.
"Next gen" is going to be more cross gen than ever. PS5 and PS5 Pro users can remain on those consoles for years to come, if they choose. The hybrid nature of PS6 will be the selling point. And for those who can afford and want premium hardware, there will be the home console version.
