i have 339 hours on venom and have been maining him since season 2. for the past year and a half, venom has always been a less common pick. his kit takes a good amount of time to master due to his primary, wall climb mechanics and high mechanical skill. venom has definitely been a great pick in certain seasons (like season 4 when his ult first got anti heal) but not a lot of people complained about him since it took a REALLY good venom to exert kill pressure and damage. the average venom isn’t doing a whole lot with his kit

but ever since season 9 released with the phoenix teamup, i’ve seen ALOT more posts on social media complaining about venom and the reason is pretty simple. the majority of people don’t know how to aim with venoms normal primary and the phoenix teamup is an incredibly easy alternative to use. it has a massive hitbox, wide range and deals decent damage if you just swipe your camera around in the enemy backline. this means the average venom will perform better compared to the last 8 seasons. so now people are realising how obnoxious venom’s kit can be.

so tldr: i wouldn’t be surprised if the phoenix teamup catches some nerfs

i’ve played about 5 games of qp and switching between the new two teamups. and this is what i’ve found:

phoenix teamup strengths:

- lets u hit smaller targets like jeff and rocket more consistently
- good for hitting multiple people at the same time
- i think it also hits through shields (although not entirely sure about this)
- when aiming at the floor, you can animation cancel venom’s swing with the startup of the teamup so he can b hop from the ground (which is like spider-man’s bhop )

now for the weaknesses:

- you cannot land headshots with the teamup so you lose out on a lot of dps
- has less range than his normal primary
- not very rewarding if you have good mechanics already

but every time i was using the blade teamup? i just felt immortal:

- lifesteal on his cellular corrosion is massive, especially since they nerfed our total hp from 825 to 750
- his cellular corrosion also has more dmg. landing headshots + melee weaving as they’re grabbed deals A TON of damage whilst healing you at the same time
- venom’s ult combo now works on 275 hp targets because of this teamup
- the upgraded version also gives u healing when u use ANY ability, making your disengages more safe

so whilst the phoenix teamup only changes his primary, the blade teamup is a net buff for the rest of venom’s kit

him being 500 hp made sense before when he had dps levels of dmg with his guns and gun ult. but now they heavily nerfed both of those things and now he feels to be in a weird spot. he’s the squishiest tank with a big focus on being melee and the only time you can fully engage with his swords is when you have ult.

if they’re not gonna buff his damage then i think him being 600/650 hp would be a good buff since it would bring him in line with the other tanks.

it’s for his diya (deadpool in your area) to NOT get cancelled whenever you get hit by a cc. this is starting to be very frustrating for me. white fox charm, luna freeze, peni stun, dino grab are all things that straight up cancel deadpool’s main form of survivability
