Should i go all in for it racing sim setup games or am I just bad?

For context, I enjoyed racing games as a kid, but never played them again. I do enjoy competition games and recently re-started enjoying them. My interest became quite high in rally games such as dirt rally 2.

I know sim racing is supposed to be hard, and i feel like i am enjoying it and may even go to racing games after such as acc or iracing, but currently I am finding very hard to learn turning and braking while playing on a controller. The games dont give you a "tutorial", so I started watching videos (a lot). I get the phisics well, so i assume to be on the right path.

Now what matters, should I go and buy a racing simulator setup or is it too soon to do it? Should I learn on the controller first (i am hating to do it by the way)?

I would like to go for an RS50 setup.

Am I just bad at the game (which i assume i will be even when i get the setup for a while) or does my hate for learning on the controller does have a reason?
