r/simrally
Should i go all in for it racing sim setup games or am I just bad?
For context, I enjoyed racing games as a kid, but never played them again. I do enjoy competition games and recently re-started enjoying them. My interest became quite high in rally games such as dirt rally 2.
I know sim racing is supposed to be hard, and i feel like i am enjoying it and may even go to racing games after such as acc or iracing, but currently I am finding very hard to learn turning and braking while playing on a controller. The games dont give you a "tutorial", so I started watching videos (a lot). I get the phisics well, so i assume to be on the right path.
Now what matters, should I go and buy a racing simulator setup or is it too soon to do it? Should I learn on the controller first (i am hating to do it by the way)?
I would like to go for an RS50 setup.
Am I just bad at the game (which i assume i will be even when i get the setup for a while) or does my hate for learning on the controller does have a reason?
After leveling up in DR2.0 career mode the AI are insanely fast. Having lots of fun on this game
Dirt 2.0 Argentina, can't tell you the amount of time's I've used a boulder as a brake 😅 not recommended
AC rally Vs DR2
Just want to appreciate AC Rally current gameplay and looking forward to future excitements. Since the update, there has been some significant changes that I felt. The FFB has become responsive and accurate, and it just gives great feel of the whole car. Although dirt road still needs some more work up, but I already can’t stop practising and making it perfect to my own standard. I don’t usually compete for time but rather like to make my corners perfect. It does take it closer to top rankings though. Least of all, the hairpin and handbrakes have better understanding now. After playing for 2 consecutive days, I went back to DR2, I still love some of the maps like Germany and Scotland. I felt it’s such a downgrade in comparison. I couldn’t stand it anymore, I didn’t feel vibe anymore. Does everyone feel the same in this regard?
I made my decision
I recently upgraded from a Moza R5 and originally planned on buying Simagic. I spent probably 5–7 hours a day for several days researching, reading Reddit threads, watching reviews, and talking directly with both Conspit and Simagic before finally making a decision.
In the end, I went with the Conspit Ares 12 Nm paired with the CPP Apex pedals, and honestly… the difference is night and day.
I mainly drive rally, so I’m not even using the full 12 Nm yet, and I’ve only had a few hours behind the wheel before leaving town for the holidays. Even with that limited time, I’m seriously impressed.
A few things that stood out:
The steering wheel feels fantastic in the hands.
The force feedback has so much more detail than what I was used to. You can feel a lot more of what the car is doing.
The Conspit software has been surprisingly good. Every setting has detailed explanations, which made dialing everything in much less intimidating.
One thing I wasn’t sure about at first was the hydraulic brake pedal. Coming from the Moza SRP pedals, it felt very different initially. After spending some time with it though, I completely get the hype. The jump to a load-cell/hydraulic brake is incredible and gives you so much more confidence once you start getting used to it.
The other thing that really helped me make my decision was Conspit’s customer support. I can’t really compare it to Moza or Simagic since I haven’t owned those products, but every time I’ve reached out—whether through Discord or email—I’ve gotten a response anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. That level of communication gave me a lot of confidence before I even placed my order.
Overall, I know Conspit isn’t as common as some of the bigger brands, but so far I’m really happy with the decision. I’m looking forward to putting a lot more hours on it once I’m back home.
If anyone has questions about the Ares or the CPP Apex pedals, especially for rally, I’d be happy to answer what I can.
Dirt Rally 2.0 or AC Rally (for a beginner)
I am new to sim racing in general, I have a moza r5 paired with the moza hgp shifter. I am looking to try out a rally game but I'm unsure whether I should get AC rally or dirt rally 2.0, especially with the ongoing Steam summer sale.
My "Budget and Portable" rig
Just sharing my rig that I recently "mostly" finished up. My biggest requirement is that it needed to be somewhat portable and able to stow away when im not using it. As you can probably see, its setup in my music room which is already pretty tight. I did pretty much the entire setup using budget items and honestly, its working out great. I still need to work out a couple little kinks here and there but its been great so far.
The cockpit is the Mineer foldable cockpit available on temu and other sellers. I did a detailed review of this last fall. TLDR, its great and is holding up well. $155
Moza r3 bundle with the clutch pedal and break pedal spring mod. ~$350
Mineer triple monitor stand on wheels $100
3x Sceptre 1080p 100hz 27" monitors (prime day deal $85ea)
Amazon 6sp H pattern shifter ~$50
Amazon ebrake $40
I had a couple extra Klipsch Quintet speakers laying around so I picked up a cheap stereo amplifier on Amazon to run them. I mounted them to the top of the monitor stand with a couple zip ties. The amp was $25.
I used roughly 50 dollars in miscellaneous cabling including longer DP cables.
For a little over 1k, it checks all my boxes and im pretty happy with it. Im not counting my PC in the mix as I already owned it prior to the hobby for other games and production. I do really enjoy playing in VR but its not sustainable for me after more than a few minutes at a time. This was my VR alternative (though im still keeping my Rift S).
Now I just need some friends to race with 🙃
Recommendations on what to upgrade?
Hi all,
I am looking to make an upgrade to my rig, but not sure what would make the most sense so curious of what you sim racers recommend. I want to make this as best as I can for sports cars, rallying and formula. Main sims I play nowadays are LMU, AC Rally/RBR and AMS2.
My current setup:
- Wheelbase - Moza R5
- Steering wheel - Base moza es steering wheel and formula wheel mod
- Pedals - Moza performance kit and alien mod to make it somewhat load cell-like
- Moza handbrake and SHH shifter (h-pattern and sequential 2 in 1)
- Stand - Next level racing wheel stand lite 2.0
The upgrades I am considering are:
- Either the Moza KS Steering Wheel or KS Pro Steering Wheel. Not sure how big the difference is between the two and if the 100 difference is worth it. I just feel like I do not have enough buttons on the base wheel and I would not mind something slightly bigger.
- I'm also looking for a larger round steering wheel than the stock Moza one for rallying that would work with my current setup. I know Moza has a few options, but I'm wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives, such as mods or aftermarket wheels. Any idea is appreciated.
- I'm also thinking about upgrading to a R12 wheelbase, but I'm not sure if that much force would work well with my current wheel stand or if it is worth the upgrade at all. For the sake of this post if I were to buy the R12 wheelbase which stand is a good pair? Ideally, I'd like it foldable due to space constraints if that is an option.
Many thanks for anyone commenting!
How do people enjoy track racing?
I always enjoyed Rally since the early days (mostly RBR VR these days). I also played other racing games, but since I have a psvr2 recently I got a copy of GT7 and I heard there is also rally in it (there is not, it's just off road track racing with really bad physics). Anyway I'm doing some multi-player track racing and this is some of the most boring and frustrating experience you can imagine... Maybe it's just this game, but as soon as there are cars in front of you (which is most of the time) it's misery. You can't drive your line, they block you, brake too much in front of you, then they ram you and you're the one flying off the track.. Attacking is super risky too, because all the cars are pretty much the same, so it's a game of waiting until others make mistakes. But then also, it's so boring! 10? 15? laps of the same track with 3 corners and one hair pin? What is that! I'm half asleep after three laps because it's always the same corners with the same speed and the same line :D
I'll finish the trophy for this game but then it's back to rally for me. I really miss the feeling of being 20min into Ouninpohja and debating if I'm gonna push the last sector or play it safe while being fully focused, feeling the gravel and speeding around corner after corner.
At least I finished the rally alive...
I got no penalties, because this accident happened after cross the line.

First Time Noob Sim Racing Setup
Hi, I just got into sim racing about a month ago. I bought my first wheel which was an R3, I loved it so I returned it and got the R5. Two weeks go by and I see an ad on simshop for the simagic alpha evo sport bundle for $599. I bought it right away and retuned my R5. I couldn’t be happier with the choice I went. Eventually I will upgrade to the 18nm wheel base in the next few months but for now I just need to get a good feel for sim racing. I did wrap my gt Neo wheel in tennis wrap because I have fairly large hands and this wheel is a bit uncomfortable after the 1hr mark. I am absolutely loving it so far and have many many future plans because I have unlimited space. I ordered an aluminum rig on amazing for $250 including seat which isn’t the best but beats an office chair any day. The rig is absolutely amazing for the price I paid. I have also added dual locking polyurethane caster wheels so I can move it out of the way when I need to use my pc for other tasks. Zero flex but the seat does flex since it’s a two piece under heavy braking which is the only downside but will eventually get a full carbon seat in the near future. My next upgrade within the next few weeks will be to get ultrawide monitor or maybe even a triple monitor setup but I’ll need to upgrade my cpu and gpu for that since my 3070 won’t be able to handle it. I did do some cable management but not super satisfied with it so I’ll run it under the pedals so no wires are showing. All in all I’m in about $850 and I couldn’t be happier. Please feel free to leave any feedback or improvements you recommend I do. I’m here to learn and the more information I have the better of a setup I can build.
Edit: It looks decent to me, so can you tell me which version I can buy?

EXO Rally Championship is very fun - Early UTV Stage
EXO Rally Championship is awesome. I only heard about it from seeing a reddit post, so I am passing on that favor. It is very fun. You can set it up with a wheel, a joystick, a wheel and a joystick, 3 joysticks, 5 joysticks, probably 4 joysticks and a pedal and a joystick too...
There is no telemetry output yet but the Dev is active and it could happen I think :)
Check it out!

RSF RBR infinite loading on Quest VR (OpenXR)
Did anyone manage to launch the game on Oculus Quest 2 from RSF launcher? I have default settings enabled, nothing fancy, and selected OpenXR (I used this over SteamVR with MSFS and ACR too with UEVR injector).
Anyone with the same?
