I made lainarchive.com: an archive of everything Lain, inside the PlayStation game's map

For the past while I've been building lainarchive.com, a place that keeps everything about Serial Experiments Lain in one spot, hosted on my own server so it doesn't disappear when other sites do.

  • All 13 episodes, Japanese with subtitles and the English dub, streamable and downloadable
  • All 716 files of the PlayStation game, with their audio or video and transcripts in English and Japanese, plus the full game script in order
  • 53 scanned art books, guides, booklets, disc covers and magazine articles, readable page by page or as PDFs
  • Every disc release: the Japanese lif volumes, the boxes up to the Blu-ray, and the releases abroad, with disc images to download
  • The soundtracks in lossless FLAC, and a small music player on the site
  • Interviews, staff, characters, merchandise, press and a timeline, with sources for every fact (unconfirmed ones are marked)
  • Saved copies of the outside pages it cites, so sources stay readable after they go offline

There's also a plain HTML version at lainarchive.com/archive/ if you'd rather skip the map.

It's one person and one small home server, so big downloads are shared fairly (a couple at a time per person).

If you have scans, photos or corrections, or spot something missing, email contact@lainarchive.com. Contributions get credited.

Serial Experiments Lain (PS1) decompiled: byte identical rebuild and a native Windows/macOS/Linux client

The 1998 PlayStation game now runs as a native PC program, with no emulator. I rebuilt it from the game's own code: every function was decompiled back to C, and the rebuilt game is byte identical to the original disc's.

No game files are included. You need your own dumps of both discs (.cue/.bin). The launcher checks them and copies them in.

What you get:

  • Windowed or fullscreen, sharper rendering, and optional smooth 60 fps motion at the original speed
  • English subtitles with one click (downloads the laingame.net fan translation from their site)
  • An "Unused" tab with content that's on the discs but never appears in the game: 11 unused Lain animations, photos and sounds
  • Saves as normal memory card files that also work in emulators

Text-LLM-Training-from-scratch

Hey r/LLMDevs,

I got tired of wrestling with transformers, trl, and peft abstractions every time I wanted to understand how something actually worked. It felt like too much "magic."
So, I built the entire training stack from the ground up using just PyTorch primitives. The goal was to make a clean, highly readable codebase where you can actually see the math happening.
Repo: https://github.com/Y0oshi/Text-LLM-Training-from-scratch

The TL;DR:

The Full Pipeline: Pretraining, SFT (with prompt masking), DPO, and GRPO/RLVR all implemented natively.

Modern Architecture: Decoder-only Transformer using RoPE, RMSNorm, SwiGLU, GQA, and a proper KV-cache.
Zero Bloat: I even wrote a custom byte-level BPE tokenizer and memory mapped the datasets so it doesn't nuke your RAM.

Runs Anywhere: The exact same code runs on CUDA, Apple Silicon (MPS), and CPU without tweaks.

To prove it works, I included a config to train a 17M parameter model on TinyStories you can run the whole pipeline locally and get coherent text generation pretty quickly. There is also an interactive CLI that builds and runs the commands for you.

I’d love for you guys to tear the code apart, tell me what I could optimize, or just use it as a learning resource if you want to see how things like GRPO or KV-caching are actually built under the hood.

Let me know what you think!
