Needing advice

I have an old girl (16 going on 17 in september) who has lost most of her muscle (so wears socks), is completely deaf, kind of blind, has bad arthritis in her front paws, and over the past few days seems to be experiencing sundowning.

She doesn’t play anymore, still eats, doesn’t want to move around much, can’t walk a block anymore, and mainly just wants to sleep.

The new sundowning is very concerning and upsetting to see. It’s like she’s confused or can’t see properly, walks in circles looking around. She will settle if placed in my lap on the lounge though and manage to go to sleep.

I’ve decided to monitor her for the next few days to see if it continues, if it does I’ll head to the vet.

I’m just wondering, if it does continue, whether I should be making The Decision.

I had to put her brother to sleep last May but his was a physical problem, he was in too much pain and his back legs gave out on him and he ended up screaming. I’ll never forget that sound.

I don’t want her to be in the same situation. So I guess I’m wondering what you all think I should be doing. Or what you would do in a similar situation.

EDIT: I’ve decided to monitor her over the weekend, see how she goes. I’ve also made a vet appointment for monday. Just see how everything is by then and what the vet says, but bracing myself for having to make The Decision. I can’t and won’t let her slowly suffer for my own feelings.

Sora and new sister Baela

Sora, maltipoo, recently got a new little sister, Baela the cavapoo.

She is 15 weeks old, he is nearly 1yr, and she is already catching up to his height.

And while they look adorable together, its been non stop WWE in this house. They absolutely adore each other and just constantly wrestle with one another, its nuts. This is just what my boy needed, a little friend who can play with him (as my older girl, Yuna, 16yrs, can’t keep up anymore).

I call them the Terrible Two and the Demolition Duo (brownie points for whowever understands that reference).

Grooming advice

Just looking for a bit of advice for this little girl, Baela.

I groom my own dogs at home every few months and I’ve heard conflicting information about grooming cavapoos. Some places say they should be shaved while others say only a scissor trim as a shave can ruin the coat, as it would for a cavaliers.

Baela’s coat seems to have the thickness of a poodle but the texture of a cavalier, if that makes a difference.

Whats been your experience?
