History preservation shouldn't turn into hate politics

The architecture of Silchar Railway Station has been making a lot of buzz on social media lately.

The hot topic of discussion is ~ The Dimasa kingdom era architecture has now been "covered" by metal sheet roofing. Dima hasao politicians like Daniel Langthasa was quick to use this for divisive politics. A false propaganda is being spread online, that the metal roof cover has been "installed by bengalis", to "erase dimasa history" from cachar.

It is really sad- certain section of people, may be who dont even belong from barak, are using the topic of preservation of barak's history, to ignite hatred against the bengalis.

Why was the dimasa architecture of Silchar Railway station covered by a metal roof, can only be answered by the Railway Ministry.

If possible, the original historical architecture should be repaired and the metal roof can be removed. But if that is feasible, can only be answered by administration. Has any concerned dimasa social media celebrity officially written to the authorities about the restoration? Or this is just another stunt to divide the people of barak?

The dimasa kingdom fort ruins at khaspur is already a well known tourist place of Cachar.

Also, bengal kingdoms ruled cachar as early as the 7th century (Harikela).

Most barak monuments are in dilapidated condition. Dimasa+bengali should work together in preservation and write to the concerned authorities.

Irony is, official action for the restoration of dimasa architecture of Sil Railway station, was taken by a bengali. Inspite of the hatred against bengalis. Which is totally unjustified and baseless.

Just today, I saw a "concerned" individual claiming- the installation was "illegal". How can a metal roof, installed by the Indian railways be illegal? This unnecessary hatred needs to end.

Qualified enough to be health minister?

Ashok singhal, health minister of 2026 Assam cabinet, cannot even pronounce the word "ENCEPHALITIS". He seems to have no knowledge about the "vaccination" for JE either, blaming the "season" for it.

Dr. Rajdeep Roy, Orthopedic surgeon, MLA from silchar, should have been the health minister of Assam.

"Dimaraji" insurgency groups in Lakhipur

The 19 villages demand to be included under dima hasao is mainly by the insurgency/terrorist groups in dima hasao.

(This demand is part of their larger demand for a separate "Dimaraji" state)

The demand is more of a historical one~ the presence of dimasa kingdom in cachar. But these insurgency groups obviously donot know the bengali side of the history of Cachar. Cachar was historically under srihatta kingdom.

The 19 lakhipur villages donot even have dimasa majority. The villages have a mixed population or hmar, bengali, kuki, Zeliangrong & dimasa only upto 6%.

The demand was first officially submitted by these insurgency groups in 2012. They demanded upto 90 villages in cachar. The demand was rejected by central govt & heavily protested against, by the locales.

Now in 2026, the leader of these insurgency groups have the audacity to "self-declare" the 19 villages under "Dimaraji" & welcome the MLA of lakhipur with "dimaraji" poster in Pailapool.

We should remember this demand is by "surrendered" extremist terror groups and it directly impacts the safety of the local non-dimasa people living in those 19 villages in cachar. These are the same people who want to erase the history of bengalis in cachar.

The pages covering this news in social media seems to have been hijacked by these insurgency group supporters, who hardly make 6% in these villages.

Inclusion under "Dimaraji" will provide no benefit to the local residents, just the added fear of constantly living under a surrendered terrorist group.

Jamai sasthi 🍱

A popular sylheti bengali wedding song, to welcome the groom 👇🏽

...

This was originally a dhamail folk song. Popularized before some years with a trendy, catchy tune.

Original song was written and sung by Dibyamayi Das.

Folk songs like this prove that the sylheti culture is very much a part of the broader bengali culture~ sharing customs like "jamai ador" / "jamai sosthi".

Barak's official language is never respected

Last time I checked, Barak is in Assam. And barak's official language is bengali.

Are these student bodies illiterate? Or do they want to "impose" their language on the bengalis of barak?

What do they mean, when they say things like, they want to impose their language "across the state"?

Despite being a national level athlete, her achievements have not been covered yet, by any state or national media. Only a district level page did. Our athletes deserve more recognition.

Proud of you Rupshikha! Cant wait to see a strong bengali girl competing at international level 🩷

Barak’s biological richness

Until now, "Colyttus bilineatus", a very RARE species of a JUMPING SPIDER, had been reported only from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

FIRST INDIAN sighting of rare JUMPING SPIDER was in Barak Valley- Loharbond area of Cachar district. It was made by Monica Chetry of Assam University.

Barak forests harbor such unique species. But hardly any conservation efforts are being made by Assam government over the years to preserve the wildlife of barak.

No national park in Southern Assam as of now.

First temple manager of Kamakhya temple

First Parbatiya Gosain/Temple manager of Kamakhya temple under Ahom kings was a bengali.

*It is shameful that Parbatiya gohains, who were brought by the Ahom kings and have contributed to the functioning of the Kamakhya shaktipeeth in Guwahati for 300+ years, had to face the harassment of proving "indian citizenship" during NRC, simply for being bengali. 📌 https://nenow.in/north-east-news/parbatiya-gosains-descendants-face-humiliation-to-prove-identity-as-indian-citizens.html
