This is actually my first time seeing anything from The Perfect Lie, and I was honestly shocked when I saw the cast. 😭

THE OG Dr. Romantic COUPLE?! Seo Hyun-Jin and Yoo Yeon-Seok are together again after 10 years! 🥹 I was genuinely so happy seeing these two reunite as the leads. Dr. Romantic was such a memorable drama for me, so seeing them together again immediately caught my attention.

I also just found out about the story, and the psychological thriller premise sounds really interesting. Two people having conflicting claims about the same memory, with truth and lies slowly being revealed? 👀 I’m definitely curious about how this will unfold.

I really hope the story delivers because the cast already has me interested. And 12 episodes only? I’m even more curious now. 😂

PLOT:

The story follows two men and two women who, the day after their perfect first date, are swept in an unexpected direction amid a storm of truth and lies.

Kang Ji Seon is a modern dance teacher at an arts middle school. As her family's fortunes declined during her childhood, she came to realize that it is more important to filter out others' lies than to rely on their honesty. This drama had a gigantic and amazing cast, but I was not convinced by it. Overall, it felt like a very typical SBS-style drama, with many unbelievable moments especially with the high school setting mixed again with the chaebol storyline.

I finished watching this during our board exam review (2014), and at that time it was extremely popular. But honestly, I never really liked it. There were just too many unrealistic parts, and maybe I just couldn’t connect with the story of Kim Tan (Lee Min-ho) and Cha Eun-sang (Park Shin-hye).

Even though the cast was star-studded with Kim Woo-bin, Kang Min-hyuk, Krystal Jung, and many more (who were like kpop idols) it still didn’t work for me.

Okay, I was already excited for Love in Disguise, but these new stills of Yim Si-Wan as Yoon Yi-Joon??? HELLO??? 😭😭 He looks SO handsome!!!

And now that we've seen more of Si-Wan in character, I'm even more curious about his cranky, perfectionist boss character. 👀 October 19 needs to hurry up!!!

So... Hwang Min-hyun is reportedly replacing Lee Jong-suk as Tae I-Seop in Iseop's Romance, and I'm honestly curious about this casting change.

I'm wondering what everyone thinks about Hwang Min-hyun in this role. I can see him pulling off the cold, polished side of Tae I-Seop, but I'm especially curious about the "clumsy at romance" part. 😭

Were you looking forward to Lee Jong-suk in this role? If so, does Hwang Min-hyun feel like a good replacement to you, or will you always wonder what Lee Jong-suk would've done with the character?

And apparently Iseop's Romance shares the same universe as A Casual Lie, with Lee Jun-hyuk playing Tae Jun-Seop. So there's another reason to keep an eye on this one. 👀

Ryu Jun-yeol, Hong Kyung, HOYEON, Won Ji-an, and Justin H. Min are set to star in the newly announced series Outback (WT). The series follows Zion, who travels to Australia after receiving the tragic news of his sister's sudden death — only to be confronted, in an unfamiliar city, with unsettling questions about how she died, and to find himself relentlessly chasing the truth.

Based on the popular webtoon "G’Day," Outback (WT) builds on the original's dark, mysterious tension while dramatically reimagining its characters, backstories, and relationships.

Han Jun-hee (D.P., Weak Hero franchise) serves as executive producer and creator. Reflecting on the story's journey from page to screen, Han shared: "We wanted to use the unique strengths of the television medium to delve deeper into the characters' emotions and dynamic relationships. Beyond the thrills of uncovering a mystery, we aimed to capture the fragile vulnerabilities, inner conflicts, and growth of youth caught in the crossfire."

The series will be directed by Jeon Du-gwan (D.P. Season 2, Seen: A Bizarre Story) with a script by writer Park Hyun-woo (Weak Hero Class 2) and Han Jun-hee.

The newly revealed cast lineup has also drawn significant global attention.

• Ryu Jun-yeol (Revelations, The 8 Show, The Owl, Believer) stars as Han Minhyuk, a mysterious man standing at the very center of the investigation.
• Hong Kyung (Good News, Hear Me: Our Summer, Weak Hero Class 1) plays Zion, the brother who travels to Australia to unearth the truth behind his sister's death, and whose search soon spirals into obsession as he follows her haunting final traces.

• Won Ji-an (D.P., Made in Korea) portrays Zion's sister, Si-young, the catalyst for the entire tragedy, whose death adds emotional weight and mystery over the series.
• Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy, BEEF, After Yang) joins the cast as Scott, a Korean-Australian police officer who adds dynamic energy and tension to the story.

With this ensemble driving its mystery, Outback (WT) promises sharp character dynamics and cast chemistry set against the unfamiliar backdrop of Australia.

As much as I love Ha Ji Won, this is probably my least favorite among her dramas. I have never really been a fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, so I guess that played a big part in why I was not as invested in the story. The main leads were both good actors, but I personally did not feel much chemistry between them. There were times when I found myself getting bored, but I still appreciated how the drama portrayed friendship. It was not just the bond between the leads that stood out, but also the relationships among the supporting characters. While the drama had its heartwarming moments, it simply was not one that resonated with me as much as I had hoped.

My MDL Rating: 6.5/10

This is one of the cutest drama specials I've watched. Even though it's set in a historical period, it has a fun, lighthearted charm that makes it feel different from most sageuk dramas. Yoon Doo-joon and Kim Seul-gi had wonderful chemistry, and they were adorable together throughout the story. I also liked how the drama blended romance, comedy, and a bit of Korean history without making it feel heavy or complicated. Since it's only two episodes long, it was easy to finish but still managed to leave a lasting impression. Overall, it's a heartwarming and enjoyable drama special that I would definitely recommend.

I remember seeing the trailer for this on a local TV channel, and it immediately caught my attention. TV trailers really have a way of making a drama look so enticing. This is a melodrama, which is quite rare among Taiwanese dramas, since most of the Taiwanese dramas shown on TV tend to be more focused on rom-coms, with melodramas being less common. This felt like the embodiment of Taiwanese melodrama for me. It was genuinely painful to watch, as melodramas normally are. Overall, the plot really says it all.

My MDL Rating: 8.5/10

This is a short web drama, so I didn't expect it to have much depth, but it still turned out to be a fun and easy watch. The idea of a woman who has lived for 200 years was interesting, although the story felt incomplete because of its short runtime. Nam Ji-hyun and Ji Yun-jae had cute chemistry, and I enjoyed watching them together, but I still finished the drama wanting more. I think the story had enough potential to become something even better if it had been given more time to develop.

This drama has a quiet, artsy atmosphere with soft visuals, but it felt far too slow and bland for my taste. I never found myself emotionally invested in the story or the characters, so it didn't leave much of an impression on me. Since it's a short drama, it wasn't difficult to finish, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. I would only recommend it to viewers who enjoy very slow-paced, dreamy storytelling.

I think this drama will be appreciated more by people who enjoy reading manga because the story can be quite confusing. The acting is good, especially from the male leads, but I didn't find it that enjoyable since the storyline felt disjointed and jumped around too much for my taste.

I absolutely loved this drama. Melodrama and slice-of-life are two of my favorite genres, and Call It Love delivered exactly what I was looking for. I think this is the kind of drama that you'll either love or find too slow, and after seeing mixed reviews online, I can definitely understand why. Personally, I connected deeply with the characters, even crying along with them. Their personalities felt refreshingly different from what I usually see in Korean dramas, which made them even more relatable. The drama also explored family relationships and depression in a very realistic and natural way without forcing the emotions. I'm so glad this was one of the first dramas I watched in 2023 because it ended up becoming one of my favorites.

If I were looking for a cheesy romantic drama that is easy to finish, this would definitely be one of my picks. The story doesn't offer anything particularly new, but Sung Hoon and Kim Jae-kyung did a good job with their roles and had enjoyable chemistry. Since it's a short web drama, the misunderstandings and conflicts are resolved quickly without dragging the story. I really liked the overall lighthearted and feel-good atmosphere, which made it an enjoyable and relaxing watch.

This drama has one of my favorite K-drama genres, melodrama. I remember it being shown on local TV, and it was one of the best dramas I had watched at the time. I really liked how the story was told through flashbacks because they made the relationship between the two leads more meaningful. The pacing was just right for me, and their childhood memories became the foundation of such a touching love story. The acting was excellent, especially from the veteran cast, including Joo Jin-mo, Kim Sa-rang, Kim Tae-hoon, and Kim Yoo-ri, who all delivered powerful performances that made every emotion feel real. I could truly feel the characters' joy, pain, and longing throughout the drama. Although I don't think I would rewatch it because it still makes my heart ache, I believe it is a beautifully written and well-executed melodrama.
