144th Drama Review: Birth of a Beauty (2014-2015)

144th Drama Review: Birth of a Beauty (2014-2015)

This is a romantic comedy that feels a bit childish at times, probably because of both the female and male leads. I liked it for what it offers, a light revenge story that does not take itself too seriously. It is one of those dramas that you can watch or skip and not really miss much, but it still manages to keep you entertained and invested enough to continue. Overall, it is a fun and easy watch. My MDL Rating: 7/10

143rd Drama Review: Kang-Koo's Story (2014)

I really liked how well this drama was portrayed, especially considering it only had two episodes. The storyline was simple but beautifully executed, and Lee Dong-wook and Park Joo-mi delivered heartfelt performances that made the story even more emotional. I was able to genuinely feel what their characters were going through, which made the drama surprisingly impactful despite its short runtime. It's short, emotional, and definitely worth watching. My MDL Rating: 8/10.

359th Korean Drama Review: It’s Okay, That’s Love (2014)

This is one of those dramas that took me a long time to fully understand, and to be honest, I am still not sure if I completely got everything that was happening throughout the story. D.O. was exceptional here, and so was Lee Kwang Soo. In fact, I think the entire cast did a great job with their respective roles. The only reason I struggled with it was that the genre and themes felt new to me at the time, and I was not really prepared for what kind of story it was trying to tell. It is not one of my personal favorites, but I can definitely understand why it is so loved by almost everyone who has seen it. My MDL Rating: 7/10

141st Drama Review: Fall in Love with Me (Taiwan) (2014)

This was my second Aaron Yan drama, but I still preferred him in Just You much more than in this one. One of the biggest reasons I never fully connected with the drama was the female lead, whose character just did not appeal to me. I also found it difficult to believe the disguise storyline. It was one of those dramas that kept making me think, "Seriously?" because so many scenes relied on unbelievable coincidences that took me out of the story.

What kept me watching until the end was the advertising industry setting and the challenges the characters faced while pursuing their dreams. I found that aspect much more interesting than the romance itself. Unfortunately, the drama was not memorable enough for me, and I can barely remember most of what happened now. I know many people actually prefer this over Just You, but I guess it really comes down to personal preference. My MDL Rating: 5/10

140th Drama Review: Naeil's Cantabile (2014)

This wasn't really my type of drama, but I still managed to finish it. I wasn't a fan of the female lead, although I know that's exactly how her character was written in the original manga, so I can't really hold that against the drama. Having already watched the anime, I couldn't help but compare the two throughout the series. Unfortunately, the Korean adaptation didn't capture the same charm for me, and I found it less engaging than its source material. While I appreciated the effort to bring the story to life, it ultimately left me feeling underwhelmed compared to the anime. My MDL Rating: 5.5/10.

138th Drama Review: Fated to Love You (2014)

Maybe because this was a remake, I found myself less invested in the story. I had already watched the Taiwanese version, so it was impossible not to compare the two. One of the things that made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the drama at first was Lee Gun's character, who felt very different from his counterpart in the original. Still, this drama managed to make me cry, and I have to give credit to the leads because they were excellent in their roles. Their performances carried a lot of the emotional moments. For me, this version felt more polished and neatly put together in terms of the events and storytelling. I think it is a good remake overall, though I could never completely get over my frustrations with the male lead's personality. My MDL Rating: 8.5/10

137th Drama Review: Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again (2014)

I initially watched this drama because L made an appearance, which was a nice bonus for me. The plot itself was nothing particularly original and followed many familiar romantic comedy tropes. While I thought the drama handled those tropes reasonably well, there was not much that made it stand out from other romantic comedies I had seen. I liked both leads and thought they had good chemistry, and their performances were enough to keep me interested. Overall, I found it to be a decent and easy watch, but it was not one of the more memorable romantic comedies for me. My MDL Rating: 6.5/10.

136th Drama Review: Twenty Years Old (2014)

It has been such a long time since I watched this drama, but I still have fond memories of it because it gave me so many butterflies back then. Being a K-pop fan and having Gikwang as the male lead definitely made my fangirl heart come alive. I remember being completely smitten while watching this, though maybe it was also because I was younger at that time. Looking back, I probably would not rewatch it because I might end up being disappointed by oppa's acting skills. Still, I would rather keep the happy memories I have of this drama. Whatever its flaws may be, it's gonna be fine what matters is that I remember enjoying it a lot, and that is enough for me. My MDL Rating: 9/10.

135th Drama Review: Emergency Couple (2014)

This was one of my first medical dramas, and I was immediately captivated. The drama has the full package: comedy, romance, lots of bickering, and plenty of sweet moments. Since the focus was on the ER, it felt more intense and realistic in terms of the medical aspect. The cast was great, and the leads suited their roles perfectly. Even their uniforms stood out to me. The color coding of the scrubs looked so good, I almost wanted to order a set myself. Overall, this is a medical drama I’d definitely recommend, especially for beginners to the genre. My MDL Rating: 9/10.

134th Drama Review: The Best Future (2014)

I liked how this short drama incorporated music into the story, and that was easily its biggest strength. Unfortunately, the plot was too simple and forgettable for me, so I never became fully invested in it. It was still a cute and easy watch, but overall, it just was not my type of drama. My MDL Rating: 3/10.

133rd Drama Review: Mimi (2014)

I was intrigued by this drama mainly because Changmin was the lead, although I have to admit that I was not particularly impressed with his acting here. I liked the special effects and the overall mysterious atmosphere, and the first episode really drew me in with its intriguing premise. However, somewhere along the way, I gradually lost interest. I never really became emotionally invested, nor did I feel much chemistry or romance. I think the execution and pacing were lacking, which was a shame because the concept itself had potential. Since it was only a short web drama, it was easy enough to finish, but I could not help but feel that it could have been much better with stronger writing and a more engaging delivery. My MDL Rating: 5/10

132nd Drama Review: Full House (Thailand) (2014)

I thought this Thai remake of Full House was very well done and did a great job capturing the charm of the original while adding its own style. Both lead actors delivered solid performances, although they looked much younger than I expected, giving the drama a more youthful, almost teenage vibe, which took some getting used to. Still, their chemistry worked well, and the comedic moments were especially entertaining, making this an enjoyable remake overall. My MDL Rating: 7.5/10.

131st Drama Review: Boss & Me (2014)

As someone who was still new to Chinese dramas at the time, I found Boss & Me surprisingly slow-paced compared to the Korean dramas I was used to. Even so, I thought it was cute and funny in its own way, and I ended up enjoying all the sweet romantic moments despite occasionally getting frustrated with the main characters. It also helped me appreciate the different storytelling style of Chinese dramas, and I am glad this was one of my first C-dramas because it was a nice introduction to how they portray romantic dramas. My MDL Rating: 8/10.

130th Drama Review: Unemployed Romance (2013)

The title and plot alone were enough to make me curious about this drama. It was a quick watch, but it still managed to tell its story well despite its short runtime. It's a romantic comedy, but what I appreciated most was how realistic it felt. Instead of the usual rich male lead that most K-dramas have, this one focused on the financial struggles and everyday challenges faced by both the male and female leads.

I also liked how the drama incorporated flashbacks throughout the story. It gave me something to look forward to as it slowly revealed their past relationship, why they broke up, and how everything led to the present. The side characters were also a great addition and made the drama even more fun and enjoyable. My MDL Rating: 6.5/10

129th Drama Review: After School: Lucky or Not (2013)

This is probably one of the most random and nonsensical Korean web dramas I have ever watched, yet I still remember a surprising amount of what happened. It never really had a clear story or a deeper message, but somehow its chaotic humor kept me entertained from beginning to end. The comedy was quirky and unpredictable, which made it enjoyable despite how absurd everything was.

I would not necessarily recommend it because I know its style of humor is not for everyone, but I also would not call it a bad drama. It simply embraces its own brand of randomness, and while I found some moments genuinely funny, it was not memorable enough for me to rate it any higher. My MDL Rating: 6/10.

128th Drama Review: Crazy Love (2013)

I still remember this as the drama that I bought from a vendor because downloading such a long series was too much of a hassle. It came in two CDs, and with 100 episodes, it definitely took a while to finish. I even remember watching it while sorting through old things, using a broken CD player that needed to be fanned constantly so it would not overheat and cause the discs to skip. Those memories are honestly as memorable as the drama itself. This is one of those dramas that can really test your patience. The villains were frustrating, but even the leads managed to get on my nerves at times. Still, I liked the main couple and thought they looked good together. By the time I reached the 90th episode, the subtitles had become so confusing that I practically had to figure out the story on my own. Despite all the frustrations, I somehow made it to the end, and that alone feels like an achievement. My MDL Rating: 7.5/10

127th Drama Review: Who Are You (2013)

I honestly don't remember when, how, or why I ended up watching this drama, but I do remember being impressed by it. It's a bit unfortunate that it gets overshadowed by Who Are You: School 2015 because of the similar title, so I think not many people have seen this drama.

I also think Taecyeon showed noticeable improvement in his acting here. While I don't remember every detail of the story, I know I came away with a very positive impression because every time I see the poster, I immediately remember enjoying it. Since I love thrillers and suspense dramas, this was right up my alley. I also liked how the apparitions were portrayed. The visual effects were well done and added to the eerie atmosphere without feeling overdone. My MDL Rating: 7/10

126th Drama Review: Love in Memory (2013)

I expected to enjoy this web drama more than I actually did. The story had an emotional premise, and I could see that it was trying to deliver a deeper message, but it never fully connected with me. I did appreciate some of the dialogue, as there were a few meaningful lines that stood out, and the three main leads handled their roles reasonably well. However, despite those strengths, the drama failed to leave a lasting impact. It often felt like it was trying to be more profound than it actually was, and by the end, I wasn't as invested in the story or the characters as I had hoped. Overall, it had a few good moments, but it wasn't a memorable web drama for me. My MDL Rating: 4/10.

125th Drama Review: Good Doctor (2013)

I have always felt proud of this drama, especially knowing that it became successful enough to receive an international remake. What made it stand out from other medical dramas for me was its focus on a doctor with a disability. Rather than concentrating solely on surgeries and medical cases, the story gave equal importance to the emotional journeys of Park Shi On and the people around him. I also enjoyed the episodic patient stories, which kept each episode engaging while adding meaningful life lessons along the way.

There were moments when I honestly thought I was watching an SBS drama because of how frustrated I became with the prejudice and discrimination Park Shi On faced. Those scenes were difficult to watch, but they also made the growth of the other characters much more rewarding. Joo Won delivered an outstanding performance as Park Shi On, and I cannot imagine anyone else portraying the role as convincingly as he did. It was a challenging character to bring to life, and he truly deserved all the praise he received. My MDL Rating: 8.5/10.

123rd Drama Review: Ad Genius Lee Tae Baek (2013)

I watched this because I really liked Jin Goo after Descendants of the Sun, and seeing the cast, I immediately dived into it since I was familiar with all the main leads. The story had that classic KBS feel, and I actually enjoyed it. I liked how the drama focused on the struggles and small victories of the main characters as they competed against the big players in the advertising industry. One thing I appreciated was that Jin Goo's character was not the typical arrogant male lead, which made him much easier to root for. The female leads were also smart and capable, without being overly dependent on others, which I liked. There were funny moments that I still remember, and some scenes connected to the advertisements were surprisingly touching. My MDL Rating: 7/10
