XeroShoes Genesis sandals, closest to barefoot I’ve felt wearing anything
Highly highly recommend. I printed out a few of their sizing sheets between M9-M11 to find the right size for me. Going off reviews/pics online, I think getting the smallest size where your feet are still within the sizing sheet will give you the best experience.
No issues with sliding or slippage with the sole, if anything it’s grippier than any flip flops I’ve owned. The sole is wafer thin and incredibly flexible, and conforms almost completely to my feet. The lacing and size do a good job preventing any lifting in the forefoot or heel as well when walking. Even when wearing them slightly loose to maximize comfort, I still haven’t had any issues in daily use.
Other wearers say it’s good for running. I haven’t had the chance yet to test that myself, but there’s a lot of small adjustments you can make to keep them really secure. I’m still getting a pair of Z-Trail’s to have a sturdier pair of barefoot sandals on hand, but these ones are honestly amazing. The openness and comfort are unmatched.
As a daily use sandal and for anyone who wishes they could be barefoot 24/7, I can’t recommend them more.
First skin.. am I doing this right?
I have 2 UV's set up, one as the original and one as composite that is set to active. Right now I'm mapping the UV sections onto portions of the image.
I'm not there yet, but I'm led to believe I can bake these textures onto the islands, and move those baked textures to the original atlas for the final TGA.
This is my first skin, so I'm not sure if I have the workflow right.
I wish Juan Bolsa had more to his character
A lot of the characters meet pretty bitter ends, and a lot of how their stories end is built off their characterization and their placement in the world, their faults and mistakes mixing with who and what's around them both contributing to where they end up.
Juan Bolsa feels like he's 100% the latter and little of the former. He meets his end because he's an essential part of Eladio's cartel, but his moments don't extend beyond him playing the role of a pragmatic, professional, and logical arm of the cartel.
His relationship to Gus is purely business, but quietly adversarial due to Gus's actions behind the scenes, which Bolsa seems to subtly recognize. Bolsa never overtly acknowledges that though, nor reflects on the position Gus puts him in from his perspective. We don't really get to see him speak on what he thinks of Gus, engage with other characters on personal terms, reflect on his place in the cartel, or understand his motivations or personality beyond him being a levelheaded businessman allied to the cartel. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just that he moreso served a plot function than acted as a true character in the world of the show, but I feel like he's somewhat of a missed opportunity for something more.
I feel like his character and death had a lot of opportunity to speak on Gus's faults and who Gus is. Bolsa genuinely wants stability and profit. Gus claims he wants stability and profit. But really, Gus is willing to burn everything down to settle a personal score. Bolsa slowly realizing that and speaking on it as a foil who never truly hated or hurt Gus personally would've made him a great foil for exposing that nature to Gus.
His death already speaks somewhat to Gus's ultimate mission being revenge against Eladio and Hector with any means to that end when you read into it, so having that subtext brought forward would've been a great callout on Gus's nature. Maybe its the case that Bolsa never truly understood the ramification of Max's death, and only understood Gus and his actions in business terms, but even if you preserve that I think it opens a similar opportunity. If Bolsa never never really understood Gus at all, I think his death still has an opportunity to say a lot about who Gus kills and why.
TLDR: Gus's actions were never purely business, and I think Juan Bolsa acknowledging that or being a stronger personal character in the plot would have elevated the moral grayness of that beat.
Less toe mobility/control on my dominant foot, any advice on how to correct it?
I’ve been working on toe mobility and doing control exercises, specifically on separating specific toes and trying to build more individual toe control.
I’m left foot dominant (use it more for balancing/leaning), and have had way more difficulty with toe control on that side. Pic is of me doing abduction stretches, where I can pull my right foot’s big toe out no issue, but can’t on my left without spreading my pinky toe at the same time.
Any similar experiences or advice on how to improve this sort of mismatch?
(Apologies for the awkward photo, it was kinda difficult to do both at once)
8 months of barefoot fitness, and walking/lifting/running so much better! Rewarding myself with some Tanuki’s for the summer
I found out about barefoot running nearly a year ago after finally getting fed up with ankle mobility / running issues. I’m glad this sub’s here, since I got to start with a lot of great advice early on, especially on toe mobility exercises from u/Fun-Bonus-9214.
Toe splay, stress points, and gait from ankle/foot stiffness were a big issue for me. My pushoff mechanics were much weaker, and my Achilles too stiff for decent dorsiflexion. I couldn’t spend much time running or pushing my feet before the pressure on my heels became too much to bear. Standing for long hours was already an issue, so you can imagine how much worse weightlifting made it.
Switching to minimalist shoes was definitely a trial by fire for all of the above and it felt like relearning how to walk (which is pretty much what I did), but this sub gave me a lot of encouragement. Eight months later, my forefoot activity in walking, standing, and lifting has improved dramatically, and working up from daily use and back into the gym has conditioned my ankles to handle a lot more than they could before.
Weightlifting is a big thing for me. Something I don’t hear as often that’s actually made me the happiest is the improvement to my freeweight mechanics. I feel like I can truly enjoy squatting/deadlifting now. Admittedly, most of my progress toward improved mobility under load honestly came from lifting, hiking, and stairclimbs. Running’s still not my favorite exercise 😅, but I definitely enjoy it a lot more now!
Anyways, barefoot mechanics have been one of the best improvements to my fitness routine and my everyday life. I’m now looking to transition out of socks entirely, and so I’m upgrading from my Whitin shoes to something that fits the summer season. Looking around the sub it seems Tanuki Yorus are a perfect match, especially for being as close to truly barefoot as I can get while still in shoes. It’s a bit of an investment, but I think it marks a switch to a more barefoot lifestyle. (If you guys have any other recommendations though please let me know!)
Very excited to be continuing my barefoot fitness :)
How do you feel about men wanting to be cherished, reassured, cared for, or emotionally supported in a relationship? How do you feel about men who're open about these feelings?
Masculinity focuses on providing these things, but discourages wanting them. Many men feel it's at odds with being desirable, valued, or "masculine".
I feel like this saved memory has done more to improve my experience than I can give credit.
“If 50% of all humans worship Cthulhu, the ritual will summon Cthulhu and he’ll kill all nonbelievers. Do you choose to worship Cthulhu?”
You’re not saving yourself by not pressing blue, you’re actively creating the problem for no real reason beyond believing more than half of people will also try to create the problem. It’s effectively mass panic disguised as logic, when in reality the only thing causing people to die is people pressing red out of fear.
Here’s the thing though: We live in a society. Unironically, and our laws exist to punish flagrant willingness to cause death in service of a personal need. Society is more in danger from the button presser than the other way around. You can only contribute to society being in danger by pressing the red button. And the red button is the only choice that’s capable of causing suffering. Not only would the hypothetical button be made illegal to press in most places around the world, in most places, including the US, pressing the button IS illegal.
- Reckless endangerment: You’re consciously disregarding a substantial risk to human life. You know choosing blue may cause people to die if enough press it, and you chose it anyway.
- Criminal negligence: You’re participating in a deadly mechanism despite foreseeable danger. This is true regardless of assumption about the outcome.
- Manslaughter / Attempted Homicide: Knowingly contributing to a collective lethal act. Attempting to further one’s survival is not justification when an alternate course of action is available and no clear and present danger is directly established.
