10 XP quest rewards

10 XP quest rewards

I greatly dislike 10xp quest rewards. I think they never add anything to any type of modpack and are frankly not even worth the effort of clicking.

In theory xp or level rewards can be cool quest rewards, especially if related to the quest (like an echanting type quest). But 10xp is so little that its a meaningless amount.

From the minecraft wiki: "Getting from level 0 to level 30 requires 1395 experience."
This translates to about ~140 of these quest rewards.

It annoys me to see them because instead of this there could either be no quest reward (which to be fair, isn't that much better) or an actually interesting quest reward that makes the quest worth doing.

I feel like quests are generally undervalued in how much they can add to a modpack and how creative you can get with them. Quests can be a lot more than a guidebook and should be, completing a quest shouldn't feel like doing a menial task but like working towards an accomplishment.
Naturally this can't be done with every quest, but every quest (short of maybe pure informative quests) should have some kind of more interesting quest reward. At worst just give some more of what the player crafted or refund some resources if you can't think of anything else, at least that way the quest reward has some value. (Or if you're dead set on giving xp then give a greater amount or just give levels)

What do you all think about that? Do you actually like 10xp quest rewards?

Morality of Gifts

Fellow daoists, I have a hobby of giving youths with potential some gifts to help on their journey. (This is only rarely done to get rid of something I stole and am being pursued for)

I have recently been pondering how cursed a gift is allowed to be while still being a blessing. Because I would generally prefer a good reputation.

Some examples:

  1. Spear of Longing: This weapon can hit twice as far as it seems and is very sharp, however, while using it you can't help but want to go home to your family. (It appears some cultivators remnant soul is the cause for this)

  2. Pill of Longevity: This pill lets you live 100 years longer, but your gender will switch. (Apparently this is due to the Pill using a yin-yang mechanism to achieve the longer live)

  3. Chainmail: An incredible set of chainmail, even I can barely scratch it. However, it seems it can't be taken off once worn. (Must be some magic circles malfunctioning)

  4. 99 Suns Sunflower Manual: This technique actually works as intended and I'm sure it works quite well. But I feel bad giving it to juniors, their dao hears tend to still be quite weak,.

  5. Dragon Egg: It looks quite normal, but many experts have told me it suffers under something called "Mickey's curse".

Do all of these still qualify as gifts or should I just throw them away?

[TW: Suicide, abuse, self-harm] Runaway

“Ethan, we made it!” I panted.
The way up the mountain was really exhausting, but scaling it with Ethan made it feel bearable.
We finally managed to sneak away from them. They live in our homes.

“Do you think the bridge can hold us?” Ethan looked a little anxious.
The bridge was right behind us. It was shining bright but it truly didn’t look sturdy.

“Does that matter? They can’t follow us anymore.” I smiled at him and hugged him close.
I let my hand explore below his shirt and touch his soft skin.
“Let’s try this, before we go.”

He kisses me. His hand caressing the scars on my arm.
I love him. But just as I move one hand to his breasts and try to go deeper with the other, I hear the leaves ruffling.

I take a step back and bring Ethan along. Closer to the bridge.

They made it here after all. “… Stephanie, please…”
One of them almost sounded human. But neither of us are called Stephanie.

I’m starting to feel a little restless too. I remember how their fists pounded my flesh. How their words clawed at my mind. Their wicked tongues, which imitate humans. The scars their evil has left on my body.

I take another step back. Ethan holds my hand tight, giving me courage, even if I can feel him trembling.

They are approaching oddly slow. I’m thinking whether I should’ve gotten more intimate with Ethan just now, while I still could, simply to taunt them.

Another step back. My feet are almost touching the bridge.

I steal another deep kiss from Ethan’s lips and we share a short moment as we stare into each others eyes. His are blue, like the ocean.

The final step. Finally, they are disappearing into the distance. I can feel relief. I wonder whether the bridge will hold.
