Car community?

Anyone know of any cool car meet-up groups around Nice? Not after the McDonald's car park crew haha, just chilled enthusiasts who go for fun drives together in the mountains. Anyone here into that sorta thing, or know of a WhatsApp or FB group etc? Merci!

Took the beast to Monte Carlo rally course

I've had the 310 for 4 months now, and I'd say 90% of my time behind the wheel has been adventuring with the family. So while my other half is away with our son, I decided to wake up early this morning and go for a blast on Col de Turini, which is the famous hairpin section of the Monte Carlo rally course.

I knew the car was quick and handled well on paper, but it becomes a different animal when pushing it like this. It absolutely demolished the road to the point where I had to slow down and just started laughing to myself.

When people say this car feels more like a hot hatch than a crossover, they aren't lying (I used to own a GTI).

New found love for this car after this morning. Just wow. Can't wait for the next one, which is gonna be exploring the famous route napoleon!!!

Ceramic coating went wrong on matte paint, need some advice

Hey guys, looking for some opinions from people who know detailing.

I’ve got a Cupra Formentor VZx in the petrol blue matte colour and had a professional detailer doing a ceramic coating on it. He's worked on my cars in the past, reputable guy, great portfolio etc.

He messaged me today saying something has gone wrong during the coating process. From what I understand, he left the ceramic sitting too long and it’s etched into the clear coat/finish and left some marks on one of the doors.

He’s been upfront about it and has spent all afternoon trying to rectify it, but nothing is working. He is now waiting on a specialist matte polish/product to try to correct it, but obviously because it's matte, he can't polish it like normal paint.

The possible outcomes he’s mentioned:

  1. The matte correction works and it’s sorted.
  2. If not, respraying. Obvs it would need the entire side or even the full car doing because it's matte paint.
  3. His other suggestion was to polish the affected door and then PPF that door to match the rest of the car.

I’m a bit stuck on the PPF option because even if it looks good, it feels like a workaround rather than putting the car back to factory condition. Also worried about having one panel effectively relying on PPF forever.

At the same time, I feel kinda bad because a matte respray is obviously a huge cost.

What would you guys do here? Is PPF on a repaired matte panel a legit solution, or would you push for a proper repaint if the correction doesn’t work?

I am picking up the car tomorrow hence no pictures of the "damage". I am just asking, because I will be paying him as normal tomorrow via bank check, and he's said he won't cash it until the car has been fixed.

I'm a predicament and didn't wanna see him tomorrow not knowing what to say, and genuinely torn.

Cheers.

One week in and wow!

I’ve had my Formentor 310 for 2 weeks now and I’m absolutely loving it. This thing just demolishes the road and has people breaking their necks to look at it in the process haha.

Coming from a 7.5 GTI I was slightly concerned it might not feel like a big enough step up for me, but how wrong I was. It moves man haha! It’s definitely a step or two up in terms of power, presence, comfort, tech and it’s also a lot bigger inside than I thought it was going to be.

The infotainment is way easier to use than people make out, too. Now that I know where everything is, it’s no more difficult to live with than the GTI.

Even though it has the same 7-speed box as my old car, the Formentor is SO much smoother, shifting both up and down. To the point where it feels like a completely different unit. And the seats. I did a 6 hour drive after picking the car up, and if not for the tiredness and boredom, could easily have done another 6. It just eats the road like no one’s business.

Overall, very happy with my purchase so far, don’t think I’ll ever get bored looking at it.

Picked up my Formentor 310 a week ago, and while I know a week isn't a long time and honey moon period and all that, I am absolutely blown away by this thing.

Coming from a MK7.5 GTI, I was slightly worried it might not feel like a substantial enough step up for me, but how wrong I was. This thing is in another league in terms of power, presence, comfort, styling, tech and how easily it gets you from A to B. It just dominates the road and has people breaking their necks to look at it in the process.

Also pleasantly surprised how easy the infotainment is to live with already. Yes, it took me a while to figure out where everything lives, but now that I know, it's so easy. All these reviewers deffo blow things out of proportion.

Yeah, if you can't already tell, I'm absolutely over the moon with it and honestly don't think I'll ever get bored of looking at it ha.
