Further Info On Disappearing Apps

Hi Everyone, tonight I typed

[Why are some Gearvr apps suddenly not appearing in Gearvr Home library?] into into Google without mentioning any apps previously discussed and the directly COPY/PASTED answer below mentions the very 3 apps we have been discussing were at the start of the answer to my query.

Sorry If I am appearing to repeat myself but I thought some of you may be interested and would like to know.

Knowing AI, The info may be in correct of course, because most of the answer looks like rehashed OLD NEWS!

Some Samsung and Oculus system apps (such as Oculus Browser, Oculus Video, Samsung Gallery, and Samsung Internet) are suddenly disappearing from the Gear VR Home library because Meta and Samsung have completely shut down official services, servers, and store support for the platform, causing remote entitlement and library manifest checks to drop older utility packages

Why Apps Vanish from the LibraryServer Deprecation: With official Oculus mobile servers and the Gear VR store fully discontinued, the headset environment can no longer query entitlement data or verify app licenses dynamically.

Background Manifest Drops: Recent background updates to Meta and Facebook application managers on host Android phones flag and hide legacy VR packages that fail modern digital certificate or server handshakes.Still

Accessible on Phone: Even though they vanish from the VR Gear VR Home interface, affected applications can often still be found and launched directly from your phone's standard Android Settings > Apps menu or via custom third-party launchers.

Workarounds and SolutionsUse Developer Mode: You can bypass the broken Oculus home environment entirely by enabling Gear VR Developer Mode (tapping the VR Service Version repeatedly in your phone's Gear VR Service storage menu) to launch apps directly.Alternative Launchers: Community members utilize alternative tools or launchers (such as the native Gear VR Setup Wizard launcher or sideloaded utility apps) to force-display local content.Community Archives: For recovering completely wiped libraries or unbricking the software environment, enthusiasts rely on manual APK collections and firewall blocks via guides hosted on archive communities like The Gear VR Codex.

Apps Suddenly missing from S9 and S9+ Oculus Video, Oculus Browser & Samsung Gallery

As I stated in my previous post which I made in reply to a few people who said these apps have suddenly disappeared off their and my S9s, I had said that I would look to see if they appeared in GearVr Library on my S6 when I had a sec,

I have now looked today, and can confirm that Samsung Gallery, Oculus Video and Oculus Browser all show up on my Old S6 and are working, but not on my S9+ as I said before.

As I have also said before, I'm okayish with tech, but not very much up on some things so please forgive me if I am totally incorrect and come across as alarmist but a couple of months back, I did post that new security measures were coming in which stated that older apps and independent ones which have outdated licenses or no licenses may become blocked by Android and wonder if the below info has anything to do with it, as it says Knox update will affect S9 and upwards:

Major security flaw inside Samsung's Knox framework (CVE-2026-20971) affecting devices from the Galaxy S9 up to the S25 was uncovered and subsequently patched by Samsung in its January 2026 security update.Knox Vulnerability DetailsThe Bug: A high-severity use-after-free vulnerability existed in Samsung's kernel-level components (PROCA and FIVE) within the Knox security suite. The Risk: It allowed an unprivileged local app to potentially corrupt kernel memory. The Fix: Addressed via the January 2026 security maintenance release. What You Should DoCheck your phone settings to see if your security patch level is set to January 2026 or later.Go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to apply any available updates.

Apps which As Of Yesterday No Longer Show In GearVr Library

In the last couple of days, I have seen reports in posts on here stating that Samsung Browser, Samsung Gallery, Oculus Browser and Oculus Video all no longer show in GearVr Home Library.

I can confirm that same here, although I don't use them, but I went on Oculus Video a few days ago, to answer a question on here about whether the version I had included the moon seating area and I started it up from my Gearvr home library.

After reading various posts on here today, I can confirm they're now missing on mine too and I can only launch them from settings/Apps or GearVr and Lightening launchers.

But I have a few Gearvr apps that I own, which show in the library on my S6 but have never shown on my S9+ and when I have a moment, I will look on my S6 and see if the apps in question today, show on there!

My worry is, this could be just the start of further removals, leading to disabling altogether!

It's odd why they'd mess with it now!

Thanks and Recognition Again To Creators Of The Vault.gearvr.net

Hello @u/TheGearVR. Some time ago, when you created The Vault.gearvr.net site and it came to our attention that you had personally paid out of your own pocket to subscribe to the host where The Vault is held and storage space and a number of us were more than happy to contribute toward that cost, but we were unsure how long that subscription would last and I'm wondering when you'd appreciate donations to "buy you a coffee" again, be they large or small.

What happened to courtesy?

Polite notice:

Us users on here are not a Samsung/Oculus service user desk, we are all on here to help each other out and even if we were a paid service desk, when answering and giving advice, which helps anyone, a simple please and thank you is always appreciated.

GearVr Apps On Google Playstore

I know these two apps giving hints and tips are both pretty useless now and very similar to each other. But I was surprised to find them still on Playstore today!

Just be aware though that if you install out of curiosity as I did, one of the sections in the app takes you to a link called Lapost.com and asks for your email address and payment details, which you should dismiss.

Google Blocking Apps

Hi all, perhaps I'm being alarmist and misunderstanding, because it seems to mention only apps through Google Play are affected, but because I haven't fully read and comprehended this news, partially because I'm in work and very tired and as a few of you know, at a young 62 I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, when it comes to tech, but if the below in the link shared from another Reddit group is true, will GearVr App be affected, or is it only about rogue apps? Because it mentions blocking non renewed licenses, which I assume GearVr obviously won't be renewed or will it be safe because it's under Meta which may have a blanket licence?

Maybe Google is just going to block such apps from accessing the Internet which Gearvr Oculus have already done themselves anyway by switching it off themselves and maybe, it could be good news in which we won't receive the rogue update loop anymore?!

Maybe at the worst, with me having a merged account, If the app is blocked, I won't be able to see the thumbnail pictures for the games or whatever they're referred to as, because I know if I don't have WiFi or data switched on, I can only see app names in the library with the title picture screens blscked out, but I can still see them all vis the GearVr service and other launchers.

But it may affect account checked games such as Dark Days, which has the account checker as well as Entitlement checker and all other none patched games which still need Entitlement Checker?

Cracking the Gearvr app

Although I am one of the lucky ones who merged my GearVr account with meta and it practically runs like it always did, lately, I keep expecting an announcement on here that someone has finally cracked the GearVr Home app.

As a 62 year old numskull, I'm not that tech savvy, so I may be talking nonsense, (although I felt I had surpassed myself and felt proud of my achievement when I worked out how to use the Go patcher!😅😂🤣) but my understanding of the difficulty of doing so is, due to the nature of the various apps within the gearvr package, is it a case of cracking, adapting and practically re-writing each one, so that it remains compatible with communicating with the next, right throughout all segments so they all still work together as one without collapsing/crashing out, in which case it's currently not possible and would be easier to write a whole new home app which equally seems unfeasible if you get me.
