Patching GearVR apks for Quest

Does anyone know where is a good place to ask and chat about patching GearVR apks for Quest?

I'm currently working on Lands End but have hit a brick wall in regards to ghosting. It runs but you have to keep head still if you don't want to do your eyes in!!

Hacking a Samsung VR Gear to use lenses with newer phones

Hope someone can help. I see many people trying to connect newer phones to old Samsung VR Gear. I was hoping to use that device only for its lens -more like Google Cardboard than as an Oculus Quest. I'm trying to develope a new VR experience for my NGO and wanted to do it as cheap and replicable as I can, but the lenses in the 3 Samsung VR Gear that we had for a project almost 10 years ago are better than in a Google Cardboard or generic VR Box.
The thin is that the Micro USB prevents my phone to fit in the Gear. Has anyone tried to hack it and remove it?

Are there any downsides to using an older phone for Gear VR?

Hi, if you saw my previous post, you would've seen that I got an s10. After realising that Android 12 made it incompatible (and due to Samsung being annoying I couldn't downgrade), I decided to just use it for a custom rom.

My current phone for this is an s7, and I know that they added a few things to the phone to make it different. Are there any differences regarding the vr part of it, are certain apps unsupported or buggy?

Am I able to get an unsupported phone working on a VR headset.

I recently got a Galaxy S10 which I wanted to use for VR. It seemed well until two problems:

  1. It is on Android 12, Gear VR supported 11 at most. I can try downgrading maybe
  2. Galaxy S10 only supported the last model of Gear VR (SM-R325). I have the SM-R324.

I can fix the downgrading issue, but is there anything I can do to get the phone working with the incompatible headset. Otherwise I got the phone for pretty much no reason.

Some stuff about orientation.

I think I noticed something about opening apps in Gear VR service, this isn't anything too crazy but might help a few. A few times when I would open an app, my phone would be slightly on an angle. This would cause the whole screen to slowly drift, as if I was slowly moving my head. Either I'm on to something, or people already knew this.

Also sorry for posting so much recently. I'm still new, I want to experience a lot of nostalgia, and I have little to no idea how this headset works.

The Vault Update - June 2026

Hello fellow Gearheads!

It's been a bit since we added anything to The Vault, but I finally found a few hours to check out some APKs other members of the community had provided a few months ago.

Added:

  • HINDAFING
  • Mirror (Mirror)
  • Oculus Prologue
  • Portaller Demo
  • Pum Pum Barrel Demo
  • Rise of Insanity
  • Super Simulator
  • Wrong Voyage EX Demo

Of these, HINDAFING and Rise of Insanity are compatible with the Quest 1.

We have also added a patched version of Smash Hits that works on the Quest 2 and Quest 3. I haven't tested this myself, but apparently it works perfectly on the Q2, and is playable on the Q3 but the viewpoint is a bit lower than it should be.

Screen going black

I finally sat down to test some APKs we've been sitting on for awhile and have a weird bug that I hadn't come across before.

Game loads and plays fine. If I hold the back button to re-center, the screen goes black but the audio continues. Tested 5 apps and they all did the same thing.

Anyone else had this happen?

Antivirus saying many vault games are unsafe. Is it a false positive or has something happened?

Hi, I recently installed an antivirus on the same phone I use VR for. It works well however majority of games I download are considered unsafe, and it tells me to delete the APKs. Are these files safe, or is this a common occurence?

There was one time where I tried deleting an APK, but it said it was write-protected (I was connected to my phone on my pc via usb). Unplugging fixed it but still got worried.)
