I don't know what I'm doing and don't want to disappoint her or hurt her

I 19M and my girlfriend 20F have been best friends/ dating for about 4 years. She's always been submissive and I've always been switch. However... she likes it... rough. And I don't know how to go to a point that she likes without hurting her. Every time we are together she says that her mind is screaming for me to go harder while I'm just... brushing her hair.
